I loove the look of these! Is there a reason why you do the glows first rather than do the inks first and glows as the last step?

Trovarion

The idea behind it was to have a crisp and dark chest contrast against the bright glow from within. So I needed to be able to clean up all the green spill with the base grey (you can see me do it starting at 6:28). You can go for a halo effect and I did that on my flayed one on youtube, with the orange OSL - but here I wanted to try something different. And obviously the cleanup is easier as long as it is just one color and without having to match the effect the wash on top of the grey would create.

N Rozanov

Brilliant tutorial! Is the first brushed on layer a 50/50 of black and charcoal or pure charcoal over black primer?

Trovarion

It's charcoal with a little black mixed in. I think you can start from any dark grey and it will turn out fine!

N Rozanov

Perfect, I tried charcoal and black/charcoal mix, seems like it’s not a huge world of difference so I might as well go with pure charcoal going forward to avoid wasting time mixing paints. Question about Fluorescent paint: do you thin it at all? Mine is mega thick straight from the dropper and dried ultra glossy, even after thinning.

Trovarion

yeah any dark grey works. The Vallejo Green Fluo is thick, yes. For some reason that's why it works so good with a brush for me. It's not ultra matte on my mini, but also not super glossy. I don't thin it, only a brush that has been cleaned in water/dipped in water and then wiped on a towel.

Christopher Caster

The video had a perfect amount of detail for me. I loved it

Johnny Malcolm@

Thanks so much for the reply! Do you feel that this scheme could get monotonous across an entire army? Especially on larger models. I love that this may be the point with this scheme, to keep it light and fast. But was wondering on your thoughts to maybe differentiate some parts a bit more

Josue Romero

This is amazing, love this type of content, sometimes is great to have a rest from trying to do your very best and this "easy and fast, but effective" way of painting is perfect for that.

Brian Marx

Could you create a list of GW paint equivalents for this effect? I know it's a pain, but I have a ton of GW paint laying around!

James Kelton

Love this thank you! Would love to see more quick and amazing tutorials in the future. I'd be very much interested in seeing this scheme on other necrons if you'd be able. Question how might one differentiate duffrent materials on some of the models ( stone from the silent king, or the diffrent cloaks on some of the lords) while keeping the super dark osl contrast?

Jack Stubbings

Awesome video. I saw this on your YouTube channel and tried to copy it myself to some level. I never realised subscribing and actually hearing you talk through the work and ideas would be so helpful. Great work, can’t wait for more! Would love to see you do a character or a vehicle in this scheme to see how you tackle it! ✌🏼

Trovarion

hi, sorry for the late reply - personally I would probably try to add a material that will look different from the metal, but can still be rendered very dark - so maybe if youw ant to go with stone, make the edges and highlights read stone grey and making the shades very dark. You can of course make these parts some kind of color, but anything neutral/grey/dark will help with the effect!

James Kelton

Awesome I was thinking something similar. I'm excited to get painting, thanks for c the inspiration! How to see your take on more necrons in this scheme in the future

Nick Envoy

Awesome guide, thank you! What colours would you pick for a blue glow instead of green? Specifically which fluorescent paint would you use for that fluorescent step?

Trovarion

blue doesnt have great fluo availability - I have been using Ducat Blue by AK as the main color for blue OSl, pairing it with darker colors (deep Blue, eg.) for the innitial glow and then adding white for the brightness.
