21-2 - WIP (Patreon)

Hey, it's me.I'm sure you're wondering where the new page is.Short version: It'll be finished very soon and here is the current WIP page for it.Long version: I have never been a backgrounds guy. My primary skill set has generally been in character design and that's where I stopped. Previously, back when Melody (an industry professional who does this for a living) was working on layouts, this issue was something that was didn't really matter all that much and I could focus on what I did best. Since Melody's departure, I have had to be creative when it comes to background work - which was fine during the Ravenous Rebrand story since I was the writer and the artist. I could simply write around my own limitations. The comic became filled with close ups, abstractions and some straight up white voids with very few backgrounds thrown in.I'm not writing this one. A consequence of that is this current script is very demanding on me learning to draw things that I'd avoided and are extremely outside of my comfort zone. Interiors, exteriors, cars, buildings and all in various perspectives working together in a non-intrusive way. This is genuinely one of the hardest things I've ever done and the worst part of it all is I know it's all going to look like trash. Turns out doing your best can end up looking like some grade-A garbage when you just getting a handle on things. From books to videos to training exercises, I'm doing my best to figure this stuff out and I apologize that it's taken this long. I want to get more pages out at a faster pace, which might just end up resulting in the background art looking like passable junk until I end up with something that seems passable and maybe even "good".Nevertheless, progress is happening and things are being completed. The page will come out very soon with subsequent pages not taking nearly as long to complete.Thank you for your time and attention.JMD!
