So, I'm aware by now of a certain website that leaks patreon content, not sure if there's anything I can really do about it. Is there a way that's convenient for you all to receive the content without it being post directly here? Like, some kind of password download? Would love to hear your thoughts.

I might be overthinking it, as the people who would stoop so low to leak content and look up said content were obviously not going to support me on here anyway, and I know that's the mean reason you're all here, which I can't begin to appreciate enough.

I wouldn't worry about it. Theft absolutely sucks for sure, but people are here to support you. Much like DRM with video games, you don't want to impose hoops for your regular fans just to try (and ultimately fail) to stop people from stealing. Keeping it nice, convenient, and easily accessible is also enticing in itself to attract new supporters.

If that site could be taken down... The password stuff might work.

I know a site that leaks Patreon content, and from what I've seen, the best way to keep content exclusive is by DMing links to monthly rewards. Any other method I've seen can be leaked and used by people using these leak sites.

As others have said, some other other artists I support(ed) on here have sent megupload or dropbox links with downloads of their monthly packages. That being said, I don't know what this website is nor how it works. But I have known people who have paid for premium content and still shared it. I, once, did so on accident once and will try to do better in the future. In other words, you can't completely prevent it, but the download links could add another, protective layer, depending on how this and other websites gather premium content.

If it’s the website that I think that it is, then you can try get in contact with the site admins to get your exclusive art removed from there. Other artists already successfully did that.

One petty thing we did was a different water mark for 1/4 of them, and when it turned up, depending on which water mark, we changed the water marks on that 1/4, managed to figure it out, and banned the guy, but then it was getting released by a different guy

My experience with DRM is that I'm a good boy and every time I switch a computer I need to wait for long downloads and re-authorization. Even some items I purchased to read have 'keys' I have to use each and every time. On top of the PILE is Zbrush which will randomly (when I need it most) become "Non-Authorized" and I have to wait for up to a week to get the liscence renewed. A few years back I walked down the streets of an Asian country on a tour and could have got a cracked working copy for $30US equivalent, less than pretty neat 'company' ... Oh, and Zbrush sold out so to get upgrades, the strict DRM still in place they want effectively the full price yearly. Not going to pirate them - just doing Blender tutorials as a free 3D pack that was once a neat joke is starting to have features as good as them on top of a lot of other options. It's a pretty sad fact that DRM tends to only make difficulty for your paying customers but perhaps stops one pirate by seconds. However, would any viewing the files posted on some rogue website actually pay for them ever, and might it work as advertising? I'm not justifiying piracy, its wrong especially for an indie like you. I'll send a DM on a few ideas that might help in some areas.

I would keep requests and other direct interaction fanciness behind paywalls, rather than sometimes option it on Twitter. There's no easy way on Patreon to ban people who save backposts and spread them, or prevent it entirely. It's not perfect, just my suggestion for deterring financial issues. I might also delete older backposts and keep a separate, private, but easily reachable archive in case something gets lost forever.

I’ve seen several artists do the DM trick. Not sure how effective it is (anyone who gets the DM can reshare it anyway). The downside is new patreons don’t get access to past posts, and that can be a big letdown for supporters (I know it would be for me)

I think the best way to entice people to join your Patreon is to offer something that can’t be stolen, interactivity. You already do the fanart polls which allows you to engage with your patrons. Something that people on the “site that shall not be named” can’t do. Doing more of that will definitely entice people to support you here. If I were to give a suggestion, maybe provide an option for Patreons to submit their own art for you to view and provide critiques. Though I understand that might lead to a lot of work on your part. Just providing my thoughts as to what I would like to see as a supporter. Love you man ❤️
