Hey everyone! Here's everything I worked on during the month of June, exclusively for Patreon supporters.

Link Cleaner

I finally rolled out the big Link Cleaner update in June, and you can go check out the dedicated post with all the details if you missed that. I haven't seen any complaints about the design or any bugs, so I think it went well!

I have made a few minor changes since the initial update, like updating the navigation bar to have a "Home" link instead of a "Link Cleaner" banner, alongside the other pages as links. PhotoStack has had that design for a while, and I think it's more clear and straightforward.

There are more changes I have in mind, like a multi-line URL entry for screens with limited horizontal space, but none of that needs to happen in the near future. I'm pretty happy with the current state of Link Cleaner.

ImageShare

I released ImageShare v3.2 in June, which fixes a bug that could cause a server crash with a maliciously-crafted upload. File uploads are wiped when the server restarts, so this wasn't a security flaw or anything serious, it just would have been annoying. It also has some minor code cleanup to support the latest versions of Express.js and other dependencies.

If you run your own ImageShare server, this update removes the requirement to save a contact email address. That was previously needed to generate the Let's Encrypt certificate, but Let's Encrypt no longer asks for email addresses, so ImageShare doesn't need that anymore.

I also set up status monitoring for the main ImageShare server, which means I'll now get immediate alerts whenever the server dies. There's also a cool status page with detailed uptime information over the past 90 days. So far it's 100% uptime!

The Spacebar

I published two articles on The Spacebar in June:

How to download audio-only media files with yt-dlp (this one was not sent to email subscribers)

Apple's history is hiding in a Mac font

I also worked on some more behind-the-scenes updates to the site. I assume most of the people with a free account have adblock enabled, but even if they don't, advertisements will no longer appear when they're logged in. There are some other site changes I have in mind, but I'm not sure what's fully possible yet with my current Ghost plan.

You can subscribe to The Spacebar as an email newsletter, or follow new posts through the RSS feed, the Mastodon account, or Bluesky.

Tech Tales

June marked the four year anniversary of the Tech Tales podcast! This past year, the show had three episodes, over 5K plays on audio platforms, and over 5K views on YouTube. I had hoped to release more episodes, but life and other projects unfortunately got in the way.

I have another Movie Club episode planned for release in July, and another big retrospective for August. Go subscribe to the show if you haven't already!
