September 2026 Work Log (Patreon)
Content
Hello again! Here's the details for everything I worked on during the month of September, including updates to Just the Browser, a new tool for Tumblr blogs, the Cupertino theme for Firefox, and moving away from DigitalOcean.
Just the Browser
I released a new version of Just the Browser in September. It blocks a few more features in Chrome and Firefox, related to AI functionality and advertising. The Firefox configuration also no longer locks the AI settings after modifying them, as seen in the below screenshot. That way, they are still turned off for you, but you can turn any of them back on if you want.
You can just run the Just the Browser installer again to get the current configurations, or manually download the relevant files for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and/or Brave.
Tumblr to Eleventy Migration Tool
I was experimenting with moving my Tumblr blog to my main website built with Eleventy, but I couldn't find a tool for migrating Tumblr posts with their metadata in Eleventy-friendly format. So, I made a PowerShell script for doing that, and it's available on GitHub.
Earlier this month, I was experimenting with merging my Tumblr blog into my main website, which is currently built with Eleventy. I couldn't find a tool for automating that process, so I made a PowerShell script for doing that, and it's available on GitHub. It uses a combination of Tumblr's API and an archive ZIP download, and creates subdirectories with each blog post in the data format that Eleventy understands.
This was a quick-and-dirty tool for the sole purpose of moving my own blog, so it might not work with all post formats or have other issues. Still, it's better than nothing, and hopefully it can be useful to others.
DigitalOcean and ImageShare
Earlier in September, DigitalOcean announced that it would provide $3 million in funding to the Omarchy Linux project. Omarchy is created by racist and fascist David Heinemeier Hansson, more commonly known as "DHH," and the project is a power grab in the FOSS community. I do not want my money, some of which comes from you lovely folks, to go towards supporting that.
I have now moved all my VPS servers from DigitalOcean to Linode/Akamai, which includes the web server for theimageshare.com. The ImageShare web app doesn't permanently store any user data, so it was not a risky or difficult process to move that to another VPS. All of my other web apps are hosted on GitHub Pages, because that's free for static sites.
Cupertino theme
You might remember Cupertino, my theme for Firefox that gives the browser a more native appearance on Mac. Mozilla just started rolling out Firefox's new design, which changes some of the layout rules for themes, and Apple just released macOS 27 Golden Gate, which has a tweaked Liquid Glass design.
I have started to work on a new version of Cupertino to accommodate both of those updates. Before working on the visual changes, I decided to make a simple compiler script for the theme's manifest JSON file, so I can use variables and other features. It will make the visual changes much easier to implement across both light and dark modes, and it should speed up any future updates.
After completing the Firefox theme update, I might try to make Chrome and Microsoft Edge versions. Stay tuned!
