Another VHS capture of Sony's short-lived video magazine. This series is becoming increasingly weird, which makes it super valuable in my opinion. It's really great to see an alternate lens into the peak Famicom/early PC Engine era—GTV strayed further from the sanctioned Nintendo view of games and into the more offbeat stuff. And even the games that showed up in both GTV and Famimaga (like the lengthy baseball special) comes off wildly different here than in the other magazine.

Anyway, the big news here is that they've replaced the strange Sophia mannequin with a human, which is either a big upgrade or a big loss, depending on your feelings of clumsy puppetry vs. cute ladies. The bizarre caveman thing is unchanged, though.

GTV: Game Tech Video Vol. 5 [June 1988] VHS Rip

I love how weird this series is. This tape begins with nearly four minutes of surreal miniatures and muppets and Sophie revealing that she has become a real actor instead of a puppet, before rolling into a super cut of "dead ball" scenes from various console baseball games. 0:30 Intro 4:06 Dead Ball 4:26 Yoplait commercial 4:56 That's audio tape commercial 5:26 San Goku Shi: Chuugen no Hasha commercial 5:41 Family Tennis commercial Upcoming Game Previews 6:01 Harakiri Stadium 9:40 Pro Yakyuu Ganbare Pennant Race 12:26 Super Real Baseball ’88 14:07 Power League 17:17 Best Play Pro Yakyuu 20:31 World Stadium 23:50 Famista ’87 24:44 Rebecca in Liberty commercial 25:14 Racket Attack commercial 25:44 Cult Game Catalog 2: Famicom Shooting Games 26:16 Life Force 26:47 Gradius 27:19 Star Soldier 28:05 Galaga 28:40 Galaxian 29:18 Space Invaders 30:05 Wasshoi Magic Advanced Action Game Showcase 31:14 R-Type Part II boss rush [PCE] 33:01 1943 (the back half) 34:31 Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally disk contest tips 35:57 Jim Henson's The Storyteller commercial 36:27 Famicom Detective Club commercial Sophie's New Soft Corner 37:07 Galaga ’88 39:00 Jackal 40:20 Iron Tank 41:39 Cosmo Police Galivan 42:53 Bionic Commando 44:51 Fire Rock 46:05 Rainbow Islands 47:03 Wizards & Warriors 48:37 Youkai Douchuki 50:15 Sanada Juu Yuushi 51:59 Super Black Onyx 53:29 Viva!
