One last video to close out the old year—one I've been wanting to create for a decade now and finally decided to pull the trigger on. I was hoping to be able to record this as an analog RGB signal from Analogue Pocket, but Analogue still hasn't made analog output possible from the Pocket's Dock... so I decided to just go ahead and pull the trigger anyway.

Welcome to the Neo Geo Pocket retrospective series, a division of Game Boy Works Gaiden, Inc. This episode simply lays the groundwork with an overview of the platform... and not really even the entire platform. Just the monochromatic black-and-white system. I'm only covering U.S. releases in this series (for the most part), but the original non-color Pocket does indeed get a nod here because it was, very technically, released in the U.S. Ahoy!

Next month/year, I'll wade into the library itself.

I know I have some other platforms that need covering or finishing in the bonus lineup (Super Cassette Vision, among others). But they're going to have to wait. My heart belongs to NGP/NGPC, and everything else has to take a back seat for now.

No Boys allowed: Neo Geo Pocket | Game Boy Works Gaiden 17

Welcome to the cootie-free zone. In the land of Neo Geo Pocket, there are no Boys. This episode marks the beginning of a side series that explores the brief but brilliant life of Game Boy's worthiest competitor, the Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color. For the moment, don't expect a look at any specific games; this video focuses strictly on the circumstances of the Pocket's creation and what it represented for gaming. We'll dive (alert) into the games soon enough, though, don't you worry. Production notes: Video Works is funded via Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/gamespite) — support the show and get access to every episode up to two weeks in advance of its YouTube debut! Plus, exclusive podcasts, eBooks, and more! Why watch when you can read? Check out the massive hardcover print editions of NES Works, Super NES Works, and Virtual Boy works, available now at Limited Run Games (https://limitedrungames.com/collections/books)! SG-1000 Works: Segaiden Vol. I is available NOW, and Metroidvania: The First Decade and NES Works Gaiden are due in 2025. NES footage captured from Analogue Nt Mini.
