Well, here we go: Super Mario Land redux. I feel like this video isn't as good as it could be, so I apologize for that. Anyway, onward and upward from here! The next game in the lineup is Nobunaga's Ambition, which frankly intimidates me, but after that the rest of this volume of Game Boy Works has a lot of stuff that intrigues me. I don't know how good stuff like Astro Rabby and The Rescue of Princess Blobette will be, but they should at least be interesting…?

Super Mario Land retrospective: Oh! Daisy! | Game Boy Works #003 remastered

I was down and out with a cold this past week, so instead of forging ahead with Game Boy Works, here's another remastered episode: An expanded look at Super Mario Land, this time with MUCH better sound and video quality. You know Mario, you love Mario… but do you love Mario Land? You should! It's quality fare.

As a kid, I found both A Boy and His Blob and Rescue of Princess Blobette to be fascinating, yet oblique and impenetrable. Returning to the former as an adult, I realized it's just not a very well-designed game. Plenty of good ideas, poorly executed, at least in my experience. Looking at David Crane's CV post-Pitfall! reads like a list of mediocre to bad NES and SNES shovelware, and I hope you'll be able to talk more about Crane's design ethos and legacy when you get to Blobette. (I don't think you'll be getting to any other Crane games for NES Works for quite a long time!)

Good episode, thanks! Makes me want to play those old GameBoy games, for research :)
