Alt Swift: Season 7 Trailer #2 Explained (Patreon)

This "Swift" video is like a stripped-down version of Alt Shift – less structured, simpler graphics. Dumber jokes. Much quicker to produce. There's some worthy analysis in there, I think, but not as much as I'd have after days of writing and thinking.

I think there's value in this style of video. And there's a lot to be said for the quick production time. But like Calin and Stevie say in the Patron comments, a total commitment to depth+detail+quality is kinda the whole point of Alt Shift X. So why make a half-baked video?

For now I'll leave this video unlisted, just for Patrons. I'm interested to hear what you guys think of this experiment! It might make sense to tinker more with this simpler style in future.

But Alt Shift X remains Alt Shift X, and I'll get the regular trailer analysis video done over the next couple days.

Awesome job! A thought: could the video be uploaded to the "Alt Schwift X" channel, with a link to the main channel. It strikes me the slightly more casual style suits the Schwift channel better, plus could be a way to get more traffic over there?

I agree with the previous comment. As a longtime patron, I really appreciate the quality in Alt Shift X. I liked the video, but it didn't feel like it fit on the channel.

I didn't even know Alt Schwift X existed! I agree with Sarah, it'd be great to post it there (unless you want to keep it purely abridged GoT ofcourse :p ). I really like the video btw, but I'm just not sure it would fit on the main channel :)

I loved it. It doesn't have the depth of a normal alt shift x video, but it's still nicer than 90% of other videos on the subject, so yeah keep it up! :D

Love the idea of swift vs. shift videos. I think they both have their place, and posting the swift kind of lets the audience have a greater chance for input, maybe there's room to check out questions that are asked in comments or whatever and address those in the shift videos. As a standalone video this is a solid breakdown and better quality than some of the other, similar videos on YouTube.

I think people should be able to differentiate between a quick & dirty look at the trailer and your usual in depth style (just remind them at the beginning and end). If you load to alt schwift X channel you wont get nearly as many views. It was great, short and sweet. Its good to have something out so fast after the trailer release and now im excited about your in-depth one (and cersei too).

New patron here. I actually came to the main channel looking for your reaction to the new trailer and didn't see one. So I finished watching one of the other videos I had started but not yet finished and at the conclusion of that one decided to become a patron. Lo and behold, I was rewarded with this video and I love it. I agree with Team Garcia's comment above that I think both have their place and I don't think people will get confused if you preface each "swift" video with the caveat that the full video is coming. As long as the full one does come later because I would hate to lose the long form content in favour of only the swift vids. I would, however, be ecstatic if the swift vids came in addition to the long ones.

I loved the swift! I adore your deeper analysis, so don't change that. But after episodes and trailers I find myself wanting to know your take more quickly. This gives that--you provided insights I didn't pick up on

ASX, I thank you so much for the mini shout-out in the mass email sent out. It means so much to me to know that I have even the teensiest effect on my most favoritest channel everest........................................................I still can't help but be extremely critical of this quick-video idea. There definitely IS something to consider here: this video was indeed done very quickly, so critiquing it on content alone would be unfair. For something done quickly...let's be honest, it was on par with the "quick-video" competitors you have on YouTube (which is a compliment, because I did enjoy it). But that's just it...let them squable for the quick views and the click-baits. You're so insanely far ahead of "those other" channels (I won't name them, but we all know of the 2 or 3 or 4 I'm talking about), that I seriously hate to see you stoop to their level. WHY? Why do I hate to see you stoop to their level? I seriously just hesitated for about a full minute in using this phrase as an accusation to you...but this "quick-video" idea is so clearly click-bait based. I can't even believe we're even discussing it to be frank...a pre-analysis video to an analysis video...really? There's too much here for me to not accuse you of trying to make a quick buck on a purely senseless video. NOW, I'm writting this while the video is limited to just Patrons, so obviously you won't make much money off of 1,000 views, but let's be honest, we ALL know you'll get above 50% on your Likes/Dislikes bar at the bottom left of the video window, which will technically justify you to release it to all of YouTube. And that's just it, that's so obviously the shield you're using: "If you guys like it, we'll release it to all of YouTube," and bam: this video is in line with ASX's quality-over-quantity-paradigm because the Patrons themselves voted to release it to all of YouTube. Come on. NOW, you could very easily say, "Well what the hell's the harm in us trying to make a quick buck, we NEED the money to output the fantastic content we're known for,"...to which, I say, good point. But, really, for the love of R'hllor, don't do click-bait videos. GoT/ASOIAF will end one day, don't you want people to say to others, "Oh you're half way through the books and NEED some explanation on wtf is happening with Varys and Littlefinger's overall grand master plan, and wtf all these northern lords are hinting at with wanting Starks in Winterfell? Go to YouTube and type in Alt Shift X, that's all you need for all your ASOIAF desires, period," then they go to your channel and come across these click-bait videos and might assume that this channel is no better than the others, and THATS JUST THE THING, THEY WOULD BE SO WRONG, BUT THEY'LL ASSUME IT NEVERTHELESS. Seriously, just, come on, don't do click bait videos. One idea is merchandise; which won't be a "quick" buck/quid but it could seriously earn you some cash. For example, I've been on the hunt for a Stark Sigil poster...but I don't want the generic HBO version of the Stark Sigil, I want the one that's in the books, which is way lamer...I agree, but it's the original. Or...maybe I'm wrong about this being a click-bait idea and none of this counts......but I'm so totally not. The point is this, the Harry Potter series is over with, and some people STILL have some INSANE theories about what's really what and who's really during that whole series. Again, one day ASOIAF will end, and YOU'RE the channel everyone will go to for explanations. At least, you're so totally completely awesomely on track for that to be the case. I mean really, who the hell is going to finish the series, want some clarification, and go to that channel on YouTube that's coming out with a new video EVERY DAY for an explanation, and thus have a giant library of videos to sift through? How many years has it been since LoTR came out and people are still crazy about it? Star Trek? In 20, 30, 40 years when people are still discussing ASOIAF, they'll have ONE source for all theories/explanations/clarifications ("source," I know you gather lots of your theories/info from Reddit, and you give them credit, which is good, people will be able to dig deeper using your videos). You laugh at my 20/30/40 year example, but just think about it, no one even comes close to doing what you do. Keep. It. That. Way. Make it impossible for others to get to your level, don't do the job for them. No one other than you will read this giant book-of-a-comment I just wrote you, but just in case they do, they might think "Dude, it's one video you're ranting like this over?" No, this comment is in line with another book I wrote on ASX's main Patreon page, which I encourage others to read. Given just the length of my latest comments on your page, I think there's little doubt that I'm one of your biggest fans, even if I can't afford to be one of your top donators, and would absolutely love to be more involved in your channel, maybe some small involvement in the making of videos, or some R&D role. There. I finally threw the idea out there. If it's not too bold, please reach out to me on FaceBook (I linked my Patreon page to my Facebook), I'm obviously one of your followers on there. Views can be built up over time, especially when you cross-link etc If it does sit on the main channel I think it needs to be made clear at the start that a bigger analysis is in the works and people should subscribe to get that...

Hey Calin! I think it's a bit unfair to dismiss this Swift video as senseless clickbait – there's some solid analysis in there! Clearly a lot of people have enjoyed it. But yeah I also agree that a total commitment to quality is what makes Alt Shift X Alt Shift X, and it might dilute the brand to release less-than-perfect videos. So I'll keep this Swift video unlisted for now. Also thanks for the offer to help with the videos! I've got all the assistance I need at the moment - but if something comes up, I'll let you know. I really do appreciate your passion for the channel, and your support all this time (:

Thanks Sarah! Yeah Swift might fit better on the Schwift channel than on the Shift. Though I think a truly Alt Schwift X-style episode review would be much... schwiftier. Maybe I could do a Schwift livestream immediately after each S7 episode, throwing out some immediate thoughts, before starting work on the Alt Shift video. Hm, lots of possibilities...

Generally I'd prefer you would just save your efforts and do the full analysis videos only. That being said, these are kind of fun to have as near-instant gratification. Maybe just keep it as a bonus for patrons only? I feel the multiple entries in your list of videos might be confusing to some and the general youtube viewership would not watch them both. If the world is only going to take the time to watch one, I'd like them to see your full analysis videos because they are amazing.

One suggestion - could you speed up your voice in post production like 6% and bend the pitch with it? Or maybe just turn the dial ( what fuckin' dial, Man, it's not 1988 anymore) slowly so the end is faster then the beginning? I like the idea. Swift-Shift-Schwift. Pick your Poison, wether it's The Strangler, SweetSleep, or The Tears of Lys- Dead is Dead. Be Well
