What do you think of the new Westworld episode? Lots of questions raised about freedom and control through Maeve and Dolores. Many plot intricacies to unravel – Dolores' train, Maeve's voice, Teddy's fate, the Cradle, Bernard's persistent oddness… And of course the Japanese Shogunworld as a reflection of Westworld is pretty bloody gorgeous. What questions do you want answered?

For $5+ Patrons, we'll hold the monthly livestream later this week. It'll be a chance to chat about Westworld, and discuss some possible future video topics...

The Dolores story arc continues to mystify me. She’s fairly one-dimensional this season and I’m more than a little disappointed. I get it that she’s the MiB this season (any story needs a villain after all) but I hoped for a more nuanced character.

Shogunworld was beyond badass. That was everything I had hoped for and more. I’m excited to see the consequences of Maeve being able to tap into the mesh network.

Maeve's new powers are the most intriguing part of the episode. Does the train go back to the Mesa? Did Dolores wipe the hosts to get them back to the Mesa so she can revive them like a Trojan Horse and have an army on the inside? Love this show.

I’m sorry but I didn’t like this episode at all. I see people saying masterpiece and best episode ever, and I don’t get it. Shogun world did nothing for me. Yeah the costumes were nicely done, but the story felt forced and totally unnecessary, and I couldn’t muster any interest in these characters. I kept wanting to skip forward to get back to Westworld and the REAL storyline. Where I’m also more and more disappointed with Dolores. This was a steep drop from last week’s quality in my opinion.

This was the episode I'd been waiting for since S1 teased samurai in the development lab. I am out here LIVING for Maeve. What on Earth is Dolores up to? Now that she's a Dolores/Wyatt hybrid, she's gone off the rails and sounds more like a cult leader than anything. Girl gives me the creeps. Teddy is a precious cinnamon roll, as always.

Other hosts running into the replacement or alternate versions of themselves, whether in Shogun world or West world, was interesting. While some of the characters had trouble processing it, I liked how Maeve was empathetic.

Maeve really shone in this episode, which was great considering how one-dimensional and boring Dolores is this year. Shogun World was refreshing and interesting, but so far from historical accuracy it wasn't really believable as a fantasy playground. Writer should have done more research and not simply rely on his projected Orientalism as the basis for this script!

Yes! This! That was exactly what bothered me about this episode.

The show has lost me now. The drama I enjoyed that came from questions about consciousness and identity has been replaced with personal motivations I don't really care about. Trudging to The Hatch, oh wait, I mean Glory isn't interesting because the characters are bots.

I'm with you. The whole Shogun World re-heist seemed to be an ironically un-selfaware statement on lazy writing. It seemed more like fan fiction than something that made sense in the story. Has that heist been repeating for two weeks? If so who has been repairing and resetting the environment? If not did the Bad Bot Gang just happen to show up at the right time? Why isn't the town a wreck like Sweetwater? Why is Shogunworld sharing a staff of writers with Westworld? Do they write Rajworld too? Bah

Beautiful costumes, beautiful aesthetic, but the Maeve storyline could’ve been condensed significantly. Dolores is getting old. Hopefully the point will become clear soon, but I’m tired of her story for now.
