The Expanse (Patreon)

We cover dragons in GOT, robots in Westworld, and now it’s time for some MFing spaceships 🚀 – our next big video is about The Expanse. The Expanse is a sci-fi book series and tv adaptation about humanity's expansion into space – and the conflicts that follow. There's mystery, political intrigue, colourful world(s)building, space Mormons... and for the most part it's grounded in plausible science.

Since most people haven't read or watched the series, we'll make the video accessible, assuming no prior knowledge. It'll focus on the first book, Leviathan Wakes – which corresponds to the first season and some of season two. We'll untangle the plot and politics, explore the cultural and political factions, and analyse the themes – like the conflicting worldviews of Holden and Miller. Hopefully this’ll serve as a fun introduction to the series for newcomers, as well as an interesting analysis for Expanse veterans.

Working on a new series is a big challenge, and this Expanse video will take a while – so we’ll likely release a short ASOIAF video or two along the way. (Maybe on Strong Belwas, Nettles, or some other minor character). The goal is to finish the Expanse video by the end of the month – will keep you posted.

The long-term plan for Alt Shift X is to keep focussing mostly on ASOIAF, but to also cover other series, like Westworld and The Expanse.
