Expanse update #2 (Patreon)

Figuring out a way to represent the worlds and politics of the Expanse in one neat image... It's fun to combine real-world space imagery with Expanse footage. We're also covering some real-world physics in this video, which kinda harks back to the second ever ASX video, on the Doppler effect... This sci fi series is some of the most educational content we've covered in years 🤓

Increasingly thinking of splitting the video into two parts – a spoiler-free introduction to the Expanse, then a spoilery analysis of Book+Season 1. Otherwise, it's weird to jump from the very basics to the nitty-gritty details within one video. And two videos gives people the option of watching the intro video, then reading/watching the Expanse, then watching the analysis video. So what do you think – does it make sense to split the video?

Definitely voting to split! I’m rereading because of you doing the analysis. Lots of people may decide to watch (maybe read too) who were on the fence because of the introduction video.

Love the idea of splitting the videos. My wife and I are starting the TV show (I've read Book 1) and it is not an easy show to get your head around in the beginning. I'd love to have an intro video to watch with her (spoiler-free) which might increase the odds she sticks with it...

If you feel you have enough material to do so, definitely makes sense to split it. (And my inner science nerd is rejoicing at the thought of real life physics)

Splitting it in two parts is a great idea. I've watched the first two seasons and my brother is interested in the series, especially now that you're covering it. An intro would be great for him to get his feet wet before jumping into S1.

Yes makes sense IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL. But I will say your content is so good that if people are going to come here to watch it, you might just present the whole thing. If they are interested in the topic then that is ON THEM to go and watch the series/read the book first. I wouldn't want your analysis of the show wavering because you are trying to cater to people who haven't watched the show you are trying to discuss in full detail. TBH, with creators like YOU and HONEST MOVIE TRAILERS, your content is so good that it makes me WANT to watch the movies/shows BEFORE I even watch the videos just so I don't have anything spoiled. I have not watched/read the expanse yet, but if you put out a video for it, I will watch the show and then watch the video to avoid spoilers. But that is on me to avoid spoilers, not you. [Provided you give fair warning of course ;-) ] After writing this, it appears I am in the minority lol. I think my opinion has merit if you feel you are gridlocked and need to give spoilers in order to give a more quality breakdown.

I wouldn't mind it, as long as it doesn't dilute or take away from the more important videos that will go into more depth. I know Alt is very busy and I understand the intention to make a spoiler free intro vid (especially if he has enough material), but I also want him to be able to make as many videos (with a high amount of quality) as possible. The thing I liked most about his ASOIAF videos was the he was able to put out a whole bunch of them, and they were GREAT. And I would watch them even though I didn't read the book fully knowing I might get spoiled. (But hey, I didn't have the time to read all those books lol). I was able to learn so much that I would not have otherwise. Also, I felt he gave really good backstories within each video so there wasn't much need for introductions, it happened naturally. It's probably a different set up from his GOT videos but I don't remember him having a spoiler free video on any of them... or on WW. (maybe he did) I just really don't want him to be hindered trying to appease two crowds. But he sounds like he has a good plan moving forward and he's already preparing for 2 videos so it's all good! Plus it just seems to be 1 intro video anyways so it's not like he's going to make an intro video to every season or something. Looking forward to some good videos and a new show/topic I've not delved into yet
