Another episode, another disappointment. Jaime and Cersei killed by a rock? rly? Jaime's arc doing a 180 is dumb and disappointing. Euron's part was weird and dumb. Jon again wasn't doing anything. Dany's arc (7 seasons worth of anti-tyranny / breaker of chains / protector of the people build-up) turned into a mad queen scenario in a matter of half-an-episode. Cleganebowl wasn't that epic either. Drogon destroying all the defenses of King's Landing and wiping all the Golden Company BY HIMSELF was just boring (why even bother having any troops on the ground if all you need is 1 dragon? Raegal was shot down with 3 consecutive super-bullseye shots from 3 ships a mile away and Drogon was not scratched by the whole armada + all the ballistas on the walls?). Just disappointed all around.

They ruined Dany's entire story. Did the last 7 seasons mean nothing? This wasn't who she was up to this point. It's a cheap ending. I understand that she was going through a dark time after facing losses and disappointments. I expected her to be tempted by vengeance, but ultimately to reject it. Instead she goes on a mass murder spree and becomes the worst villian of the show. wtf? #NotMyKhaleesi

Arya gave up Gendry and her home in order to kill Cersei and take off living life a female version of the Hound. And now she decides to change her mind the last moment and flees the city. Aren't you the most badass killer in the realm (as HBO wants us to believe after s8e3)? Wasn't Cersei #1 on your list for like 6 seasons? And now the Hound says "don't be like me, go get out of here" and she just "yeah, Sandor, thanks, see ya" and turns around. Wtf?..

Kewl0210

That's pretty weird. Well I dunno where he heard that from (he doesn't say) but it'd be pretty bizarre. My guess is he just heard some fan theory.

Aleksa Bukvic

just a quick question, getting only 2h of the stream and it starts somewhere in the middle. is this a yt thing and will the whole stream be up at one point?

Alt Shift X

Yeah it's a YouTube thing. It'll take some time to process, then the whole stream will be viewable

Where is the heart in conflict with itself ?That is what feels like we are super missing with the current season. Cause if we want emotion to rule the story we need the heart in conflict with itself. It just feels like GoT lost its soul because its ignoring its whole reason for being. Just thought I'd write this up here to see what the ASX community thinks.

Donald

She also witnessed the biggest atrocity or slaughter anyone has ever seen. I know she made this decision pretty early but Arya has always had a heart. Some people thought she might spare Cersei like she did lady crane. Remember when Ned said "you think my life is some precious thing to me?" Arya has really became a lot like him, and I think it's intentional to make her look like him this season. To me: Arya's relationship with Sandor is so beautiful because of the parallels. We've seen him be very kind to Arya and Sansa. It's like cracks on the surface of a scary man that lets us see who he really could've been. I think Arya also could've became like this, but she has slowly let go of her hatred since Ned died. It's not like she agreed with Sandor to go back and be Gendry's lady. That's not her. She just didn't let the hatred take over her heart like the hound did. Sorry for the long comment haha

lol one more reply post and i'm off to bed I swear. GRRM said something along the lines of wanting to see how characters (or people) can redeem themselves, and when they can't. Look at Theon! Maybe you didn't like his ending, that's fine. But compare him to Jaimie. Theon and Jaimie both probably had their big internal struggle around the same age. Theon's siege of winterfell and Jaimie's kingslaying (and various other flaws). Theon was able to find redemption in a way, I think. While Jaimie turned around and went back to who he truly was instead of who he could become. These are all very complex characters! They do good and bad things. In fact I like Jon less and less every episode because he seems to be just a do-gooder. "If you think this has a happy ending - you haven't been paying attention." Every season Dany has burned someone alive I think. She's been building up the fire and blood theme all along. And I'd argue she started to go mad-queen at least last episode where she begged Jon not to tell anyone. And man.. Pretty sure this is really close to what GRRM intended. It was foreshadowed in season 2? It's a bittersweet ending like we were told we'd get. There is no iron throne! Sorry dude but I don't know if there's any pleasing you. It's already really hard to produce/write a story like Game of Thrones. It's even harder to END a story like it. I'd say this is pretty on track for as good of an ending as we can get. Damn like season 1 episode 9 how many of us hated losing Ned? This is the essence of the show. We're not supposed to be happy about how characters die, it's all about the bigger picture I think. I'm not saying it's perfect. But I'm happy with it.

hi alt shift x. make sure to explain how this episode ties into my theory that Ned isn't dead and is actually in Craster's Keep along with Stannis, Bendric, Patchface, D&D's cameo characters, Billy Shears, Night King 2.0, Catelyn Tully, Lady Stoneheart (yes, two different people. explain that too), and Mathew McConeheugh's hit role in Fool's Gold (2007), a gripping romantic comedy about a search for treasure and romance, only to learn the former is the latter. Thanks

Whether Danaerys is better or worse (not madder) than Aerys is a matter of what kind of ethics you subscribe to. From a consequentialistic perspective I'd definetly say she is. But from a deontological perspective it's not as clearcut and I'd argue that she is (so far) better than her father. But in either case she's definetly not acting in an ethically acceptable manner. (unless you're heavily subscribing to an egoistic perspective)

Kazuhiro Sato

Are you gonna make videos about The Wheel of Time, which will be on Amazon Prime \?

Nick K

Nah man, it's not about pleasing me lol, I'm a huge fan, I've watched the show like 4 times (in 2 languages), I'm reading the books now, I've watched all the analysis and fan theory videos in the world lol. I sincerely loved the show prior to S8. Probably that's why I'm hurting with these plot decisions. They are not Martin-like. They are straightforward, shallow, not adding to the whole story but cutting chunks away from it. It just feels so wrong from so many aspects. I host a 10-12ppl party to watch new episodes on Sundays and during the past 3 episodes people were just sighing and booing, complaining that the aftertaste is just wrong. So it's not just me who's pissed lol. Check e4 imdb - it's like 6.3... E5 is like 7.0. Even the average popcorn-eaters who don't really care who is who don't enjoy it much.

Sofia Z

Hi please forgive if this was mentioned in the video, I'm halfway through it, but does anyone know/think we'll see some of Sansa next episode? <3

Tyler Mormont

I think Arya choosing life and failing at leading those people from danger was important. She was insistent on them leaving and they all died immediately. Famine follows her. The horse and her leaving on him was symbolic that death really is all she has.

Kenny Arnold

I'm way to emotionally invested in this show. I'm actually upset about Daenerys IRL haha

Lethewards Sunk

There were a small foreshadows of it, but they didn't pace it properly. If they'd had her lose her plot at something else in the past, it might have been more believable.

Lethewards Sunk

So Cersei was still pregnant? What, does she have the gestation period of an elephant or something?

kamakazi

It was clear the collapsing Red Keep would most likely kill Cersei so why should Arya put her life at risk to egotistically murder Cersei when her death was imminent. I thought it was very mature of Arya to let go, embrace life and honour Sandor's final words to her.

Ragnar

Cercei died with her younger brothers arms around her neck... Valanquar confirmed! 😅

Killerhund

Woman with her Child Arya is trying to safe is called Nora btw. its in the closed captions.

Tolani Adeboye

Jon is going to plunge Longclaw into fire (Drogon) and destroy the darkness (Dany). Hate it but I see it. We still get prophecy fulfilled. The true Long Night would've been Dany's reign.

Tolani Adeboye

Also are we sure that Bran can't procreate? He's a paraplegic, but not all paraplegics are impotent.

malina cureton

this whole season was a disappointment and Dany WOULD NEVER DO THAT... The showrunners can kiss my ass

Erik

I don’t know that she wouldn’t. Everyone has their breaking point. Danny reached hers. She’s lost everything but her dragon, her rage. Betrayed and abandoned...she finally broke. I didn’t like the burning of the city...but, I see how it’s a possibility.

B

I feel sick after this episode. The worst episode of all time.

Paul Barry

I was so angry after watching the episode yesterday that I couldn’t write a comment. I was also sad, shattered at the wrecking of storylines I’ve spent 10 years watching develop. Dany’s apocalypse, while obviously telegraphed from earlier seasons, was so sudden and jarring and inexplicable that I was ready to give up and not even bother watching episode 6. Then I watched the episode again, very late at night, and without the sudden jarring of the Dany change, because I knew it was coming, I saw much in the episode to admire. The horrors of battle haven’t been shown better, except maybe in the BotB episode. But this time the impact was on smallfolk. What still bothers me is that it could have been done really well. Dany could’ve ignited caches of wildfire and been blamed for the destruction even if it wasn’t her fault. With another episode, they could’ve shown Kings Landers opposing her, giving her some reason to switch from being the saviour of smallfolk to a slaughterer. Grey Worm could’ve told her how alienated he and Missandei felt. And many more things coulda, shoulda, woulda been able to be done if they hadn’t decided to finish this in a headlong rush for the exits. Never gonna understand D&D for doing that, even though I’m not as white hot as I was yesterday.

Erika

Yes! At first I was like, “Danny would never do that!”. But after giving it some time, I have come around to the possibility of it happening, just not the way it was written. It happened way to fast. They should have built it up more at least over the past few seasons. One example, they could have shown her being even more aggressive/crazy during her conversation with Sansa, and given Sansa more of a reason to not like her. Jon would have only seen one side of her, but not Sansa. I can also see Jamie coming back to Cersei in the end, but they way it played out was too rushed and a disservice to Brienne’s character. Like him sleeping with her seemed a bit off anyway, almost like fan service. Don’t try to give us both a sweet story and then quick jerk it away from us. There is nothing subtle or artful about that.

Daniel Johnson

I’m sure this has been mentioned but I think that shot of the dragon silhouette flying over king’s landing was identical to the one in dany’s vision in the house of the undying

Maria Isabel Mendonça

What should have been the consequences of Varys treason? The poisoning, all the letters...

Kyle Geralds

I wonder, what if he wasn't using the little bird to poison Dany but instead sneaking her fertility drugs. The girl was worried she was being watch so she was up to something. Varys says to her, "The greater the risk, the greater the reward." I can't wait to see the reward come to fruition. My prediction is that all the Lord's of Westeros read Varys' letters and arrive to King's Landing with Sansa leading the massive host.

OliC

Deeply embedded misogyny in the show came out during Danys sudden turn. It was a poor choice to have her switch seemingly overnight. With all the males and their dumb glances of disbelief. And these are the guys who want to write a show about slavery still existing??? And it SUCKS they really emphasize the “prophecy” of a crazy targarean but didn’t care to explain anything about bran or the white walkers. Ugh.
