His Dark Materials just premiered on the BBC and HBO -- an adaptation of a wonderful fantasy book series by Philip Pullman. We started making a His Dark Materials S1E01 video, but it didn't work out – it'll make more sense to do a big HDM Season 1 video later on. But if you're interested, here are some thoughts on His Dark Materials S1E01: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGLRpgddWcQ

We're now working on a big recap of The Expanse, that sci-fi series we made a couple other videos about. The Expanse Season 4 is coming soon, so we'll recap seasons 1-3 -- it'll be quick and accessible to new viewers, and a useful refresher for diehard fans. Amazon gave us early access to S4 episodes, so this is a perfect opportunity to make some kickass Expanse content 🚀

So the Expanse video is priority one, then I expect we'll do an ASOIAF video, then a His Dark Materials, or maybe even a Watchmen video. Lots to come!

Thanks

Amazon gave you previews? Cool!

Looking forward to HDM season 1 video. But how about maybe you let that Schwift dude give some initial thoughts on HDM after each episode?

I've still got a masochistic urge to do Lost videos tho

Wouldn’t be the first time the source material is exceeded by its criticism

Really appreciated some of the notes here, I've found a lot of the adaptational decisions they've made in the show absolutely baffling. They've missed a lot of beats the book hits in establishing how absolutely essential the bond between daemons and their people is, and the touching taboo. The show overall has made me really appreciate how good Pullman is at "showing not telling" but how do you then adapt a book, not include the "showing" and have so much "telling" where characters just blurt stuff out that was shown in the book? Maddening.

I loved HDM Season 2 a lot more than Season 1. I found it had a lot of moments I wish Pullman had thought of for the book.
