Here it is!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M_hhVg9XUE

And here's the original, slightly longer version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK80uC9cK5E

It includes a couple of kinda extraneous lines, and also the Patron shout-outs, which I've cut from the final version to make the video a more reasonable length. I'll leave this original, longer version available here for Patrons, though, to serve as a sort of "director's cut" (:

Anyway, enjoy the video!

In the coming days, I'll post a big general update about upcoming videos and the year so far.

I personally prefer longer videos, I like the extra details and speculations. Great work again!

Gung

Bravo!! Christ, it's this type of in-depth plot filled speculation that makes you realise how bloody lucky we are that this series exists. Amazing work, Shift.

Cheers! Yeah I like the long ones too, but if they go much longer than 20 minutes, I think they run the risk of feeling more like a lecture than an online video

Alt Shift X

Yeah, ASOIAF really is a marvel – the deeper you dig, the more richness and complexity you find... GRRM has made something truly special.

Jakob Knudsen (CrookedShades)

A compromise would be to possibly upload an edited cut initially and then upload this, longer cut a little later. The "Director's cut" if you will.

Andrew Noonan

Great video. Love the theory behind varys and his lineage. How come no one knows his last name? There's not too many one named people in westeros. Might be the same reason he shaves his head. To hide who he is. Love the videos. Great job asx

Brianna

Suuuch a good video, I'm so glad you made it! I like the comment below about Varys not having a known surname, I think that's also pretty significant to the theory. I'm definitely due for a re-read! Need Winds of Winter ASAP

Paul Barry

Really enjoyed this one; loved the detail. Yeah, if Varys is just pushing the interests of his house, he's not unlike many other characters in the series. It will be interesting to see what the show does with him - swap him to be a closet Targaryen, introduce the Blackfyres in season 7, or skip his reasons completely.

Alt Shift X

Good idea – I've uploaded the new, shorter one now, but kept the older, longer one available for Patrons (:

Alt Shift X

Cheers Paul! I doubt they'll bring up the Blackfyres in the show.. Maybe show-Varys simply sincerely believes that Westeros needs Daenerys as Queen.

Dan Morewood

I can see where you're coming from, but to me the more detail the better 😄 if it's about a topic that I find interesting, such as ASOIAF/GOT, then I have no problem whatsoever spending half an hour or more watching this kind of video, and I'm sure that there're others who would agree with me

Casimirrx

Wow! I have to admit, I was not overly excited by the prospect of this video. Having read the books 3 times I thought I had a good idea of Varys. I could not have been more wrong. One of your best vids IMHO and that is saying a lot. If the show does not bring back the Blackfyres then it seems obvious that Aegon Targaryen will not end up on the Iron Throne in the books either, correct? There seems to be a clear understanding that Martin has shared his vision of where the entire story is going to end up with HBO. True Martin has said there may be variations moving forward in character development but both the show and the books will end up at the same place?

Casimirrx

I could not agree with Dan more. If you dont have time to watch in one sitting... then that is what the pause button is for. Also shorter videos may be good for the masses of YouTube folks just trying to find a quick answer, however I doubt a Patron would vote for less instead of more.

Alt Shift X

Yeah I very much doubt that ASOIAF will end with Aegon on the Iron Throne. IMO it would seem silly to crown a character who appears so late in the series. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the show ends up very very different to the books by the end..

Vineyarddawg

Though I do agree with a couple of posters below who said that there's nothing inherently bad about long videos if they're worth it, I think the length of this particular video is pretty much perfect.

Twop3nny

This video was so good i decided to support you right after watching it. Great work dude.

Dan Morewood

Thank you my friend, I'm glad you agree

Alt Shift X

Yeah I think anything shorter than this wouldn't have done justice to the depth of the topic
