Game of Thrones S6E01 airs in less than 24 hours – here's a rundown on what to expect (:

I plan to make a breakdown/explainer/review video for each episode of the season, coming out a day or two after the episode airs. These will be similar to the recent trailer breakdowns.

There'll also be some in-depth, topical videos throughout the season – e.g. one on Melisandre is likely, as well as one on Bloodraven

Unfortunately, the Jaqen video isn't finished yet, despite my hopes to get it out before S6E01. On the plus side, the video is very bloody good – about 2200 words and 12:00 long – but it still needs days of work before it'll be ready for release. With Season 6 upon us, I'm not sure when the right time to finish it will be – but rest assured, it's coming, and I think you'll love it (:

For now, I'm planning the S6E01 breakdown, and a possible Melisandre video.

Sound good?

Let me know what kind of videos and topics you'd like to see throughout the season!

Thanks for the support,

Shift

We'd like you to shit talk Dorne. Just kidding :) I would be interested to hear you discuss why you think they might have made some of the changes or decisions that they did, and what you think of them. This won't be possible with every storyline because they're just making them up now for the most part, but it looks like the Ironborn and the Riverlands are still catching up.

This has gotten me even more hyped. I didn't think that was possible.

I'm happy for you to do what you think is interesting during show time. It will be pretty challenging because I suspect they're going to race through topics very quickly - stuff we've been debating for years might be revealed episode after episode. So I'd suggest keeping the videos short and sharp, and getting them out as fast as you can after the big reveals.

Alt Shift X

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. There'll be plenty of time after the season to fully digest everything that happened, but during the season itself I'd like to focus on keeping track of events as they unfold.

Alt Shift X

Yeah I'd definitely like to spend time comparing the show and books, thinking about why certain changes were made.. I'm really glad they're going back to cover the riverlands and the Iron Islands (:

Maybe an episode on butterfly effects George likes to talk so much about. I love that we get two versions of the story in the same universe, and maybe it's not technically accurate to compare them, but it would be fun to see where the series corner themselves compared to the books. But this is probably a post seasonal topic.

Another one could be about the artifacts of westeros. The swords, horns and materials throughout the series and books.

I feel the same way about your work as I do about GRRM finishing Winds of Winter: I want the creator to feel it is "right" even though I am impatient . So I will appreciate the Jaquen video when we get it. Looks like we really do need to get you some minions.

Sounds like a great plan. I still think the Grand Northern Conspiracy should be a priority. However, I can see waiting until after the season because I suspect that you'll get a lot of great video to use for that over the course of Season 6. So, might as well wait and make that your first big project after the season ends.

As always, I'm hoping for a Theon Greyjoy analysis. I think season 6 will be an interesting one for the guy

Alt Shift X

Been wanting to do a video on all the Valyrian steel swords for ages..

Alt Shift X

Yeah it'll be fascinating to see what they do with Theon this season...

Jrd

Unless, y'know, those secrets have been revealed by the season's end…

Alt Shift X

Maybe.. but I suspect that the politics of the north will end up very different in the show than in the books

Dunno if I'm in the minority here, but I'm less excited about episode breakdowns than the topic deep-dives. I'm sure they'll still be wonderful, but they'll be riding on a wave of excitement that's already there from just watching the episode rather than seeing the entire story in a new light. The deep-dives give me a greater appreciation for the complexity of the world, episode breakdowns and predictions about what's going to happen are nice, but it feels a bit like watching horse-race political analysis instead of learning about history, or watching sport post-game shows rather than learning about the game's strategy. Still entertaining, but not mind-blowing in the way you so commonly deliver. That said, you gotta work on a what interests you, so I guess that's what's important.

Alt Shift X

Yeah I hear you. I aim to continue doing some in-depth videos as well as the breakdowns, but at least for the duration of the season, I think it'd be crazy not to focus on all the crazy new stuff that's happening. I'll try to strike a balance.

Looking forward to the breakdown of s06e01. Is it out soon?

Alt Shift X

It's rendering now, should be a couple hours away (:

Jrd

…and the recap ends up being much better than the episode itself. I guess you win this round.

I would love to see a Bloodraven video! I am very interested to know how he went from being the warrior sorcerer to hand of the king "Lord Bloodraven" to Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, and then to the three-eyed-crow!
