Noooo my precious gay bois 😭😭😭 Seriously though I can’t believe Criston is worried about betraying his oaths by having sex… when he put Rhaenyra in danger. Anyone could have seen the chaos as an opportunity for assassination. She was being crushed by people. And who’s *supposed* to run in there save her? Criston, her sworn protector. THAT’S the real stain on his cloak

Mara

The ending was really great in theory to show how much the actions of nobles like Rhaenyra impact those below them, but in practice I'm not sure how much I like everyone standing around doing FA while Criston killed Joff. Besides that the episode was probably the best so far, loved Daemon being a little shit, loved Rhaenyra's quip to Jason Lannister, the emotional beats with Criston throughout the episode really hit, top quality stuff almost all around but ended on a bit of an odd note imo

Autumn

I think Maester Aemon gave a good explanation in AGOT for why they have chastity vows. “Love is the death of duty” and all. And Criston Cole certainly let his personal relationships affect his decisions as a kingsguard. HOTD has definitely been better than the later seasons of GOT, but I don’t think it’s as flawless as some people make it out to be either. The first few seasons of GOT were better. Daemon was already a dark character in the books, did they really need to make him a straight-up psychopath? Laena and Rhaenyra both look like morons for marrying this guy. (On a side note, in the books, Daemon seems to have a bit of a Valyrian fetish, as Rhaenyra, Mysaria, and Laena are all Valyrian. That was always my pet theory for why he rejected Rhea).

Laura

You attribute the flowery language to a different (female) writer; however, I think Shakespearean-esque is intentional to show a different time period than GOT. The clothing and technology aren’t different; something has to be.

Laura

Does the moon door exist in The Vale yet? Seems like that’d interest Daemon.

Alt Shift X

Yeah I wish we got some dialogue between Criston and Alicent at the end to clarify their relationship, maybe explaining that Alicent is protecting Criston from punishment for killing Joffrey

Alt Shift X

Yeah Mysaria says that Daemon prefers blondes!

Autumn

Mhmm. I think it’s part of his elitism/belief in Valyrian supremacy. It’s also probably supposed to make his relationship with Nettles more impactful, although that in itself is kind of skeevy (he started pursuing Rhaenyra when she was a teenager, only to then abandon her when she needed him the most for another teenager).
