Fun fact: the boy running after the train at 23:45 is Paulie (also PandaMan lol), while Mozu & Kiwi can be seen looking out one of the windows at 24:00! There might be more kids I didn't notice too, just a really cool detail :)

So... Franky used to be a shipwright building ships with joy each better than the last and this happened... Now he works as a demolitionist destroying ships he once enjoyed building so much... Makes much more sense after you've seen this absolute mess of events unfold doesn't it? Like hey we got the whole merry, usopp AND even robin thing going on... Here have some extra drama and a fucked up backstory cause why the fuck not, sometimes oda is a cruel Bastard, this arc is just constant despair...

I'm glad that you're cutting back on the dark jokes cause this arc and next are emotionally draining. Love you're getting invested in the story and characters more. This anime is gonna leave a lasting impression on you, as with many others, for years to come after this arc.

I love how well this backstory does so much, both explaining everything you need to know about the characters that till now have just been quirky, now you find out why they are the way they are. but above that, how well this explains all you need to know about the World Government. It is super shady and full of blatent bullshit, with the whole "Look, what you did isn't illegal, except we decided this time it is because the dude you did it for years ago ended up pissing us off." Plus Spandam the incompetent, nepo-baby sack of shit. But at the same time, not everyone working for it are like that, as the judge on Tom's trial was actually reasonable and willing to work things out.
