Fun fact that I recently found out - the voice actors for the various animals in the series are the VAs for the crew. Basically, if in the credits there's a name "Rude Guy" then that indicates that animals in the episode was voiced by the crew. Apparently when the VAs don't have lines in an episode, they just hang out and make dumb noises for animals. All those times Alicia was losing her shit to the animal sounds, it was one of the crew. XD

One of my favorite writing decision of this arc is that we first get to watch two different perspectives of the threats on the island. First we get to watch the weakling trio experience them and actually be challenged, and then we get to watch the monsters breeze through them lol

Very much appreciate skipping past the uncomfortable scene. It's by far the lowest point in One Piece, as something like that gives off some serious ick to... probably most women. Myself included. Really wish framing such unpleasant stuff as "fanservice" wasn't so common in Japan, as it's just... blegh. Like, I don't have any problem with normal fanservice, but the misogynistic stuff is just so shallow and creepy. Luckily, that's the only time One Piece does such, AFAIK, but like... really irritating that things like that make it so much harder to recommend the show to, like, my sister, or whatnot, as having to give people *content warnings* for a shonen series is just... ugh... Not fun. No shade to any of the rest of One Piece, mind. Still a top 10 series, easily. But like... sucks to have such low lows in an elsewise great story, ya know? It feels like a slap in the face to have, like, great writing for Nami and Robin's backstories and the resolution to such, but then, like, the most uncomfortable approach to fanservice, sometimes. But anyways! Back to the fun spooky arc! Comedy time and all that-- Luffy is the best with some of the stuff in this arc, and it's just great. Especially with how sharp the tone shift gets between the weak trio vs the rest of the crew's arrival.

Luffy doesn't look down on anyone, and has only one red-haired pirate he looks up to. But even Shanks could catch a Gum Gum fist someday. There is no prejudice in Luffy.
