I loved reading this manga and I'm so happy it's getting an anime adaptation even if it's only for one or two seasons. I HOPE Y'ALL ARE READY TO SEE SOME WEIRD ASS SHIT AND REMEMBER TO ALWAYS PROTECT YOUR BANANA/WEENIE FROM ALIENS AND YOKAI! XD Also as a fun aside: Alicia watching the opening and saying - "I know this is probably not a romance anime, but that's kind of f@#ken adorable." My reaction before she starts watching the first episode - ｡ﾟ ( ﾟ≧ᗜ≦^ﾟ)ﾟ｡ Sure keep telling yourself that and see how long that holds up. This is a romance anime that happens to have kick-ass fights in it.

Ken Takakura was a Japanese and singer actor from the 50s, who sadly passed in 2014. He appeared in over 200 films. He played a lot of roles that fit that hyper masculine fixation Momo likes, like yakuza, anti-hero ex-cops, or what I most know him for, Golgo 13. Anyways, this first episode is only a prelude to the peak that is Dandadan. Science Saru really cooked with this one.

Seriously, I've watched this episode several times now (on my own and others' reactions), and I end up catching something new every time. Like on first watch I didn't get that the MC's name Ken Takakura is the same as her star crush's, but on this watch I'm realizing "holy crap - he's actually saying the things that he says".

So while yes their relationship plays a huge part in this show and is suuuuuper charming, the first scene of ken and momo in the hallway is a bit badly translated in the sub and the meaning is actually better conveyed in the dub (which is actually a very good one). Ken isn't saying "i know you like me" it is closer to "i know what you love/are into" talking about the occult

This anime and manga have incredibly similar vibes to chainsaw man which makes sense cuz the mangaka of Dandadan has worked with CSM's mangaka. and it truly does match Chainsaw Man in comedy, feels, insanity, monster design, and just sheer quality. This anime is gonna be a BLAST.

So I don't know if it's the same for Japanese slang, but I understand 'gofer' as 'go for'. If you get labeled as the gofer, you're the one who gets up to go for more beers. Or whatever else is needed to go for Usually the youngest gets the label. "Hey kiddo, gofer a beer or tre fer yer uncles, k bud?"

"Gofer" is a term used in Japanese for the guy you get to go get all your snacks and stuff from the vending machines, amongst other things, like copying homework and the like. It's often shown in anime by bully characters picking on some background character/the mc.

Normally I have no problem with all the pausing, because hearing you talk is why I'm here. In this particular instance, it was not fun because you just kept the awful scene on screen for longer than necessary. I wish anime would stop sexually assaulting minors forever.

So her friend with the bleach hair and weird suntan is called a Ganguro. It is a kind of punk style for a Japanese schoolgirl to do. Speaking of which I do love how the main character woman is a bit of a thug type. That is pretty rare for schoolgirls in anime.
