BynFlew

Perfect timing. Was just wokdering what to do the whole day until i have to do stuff in the evening and this dropped

Harper

damn, sad you're getting the extended, they tend to drag a bit, but it's still a great experience

WillGlacier

oh shit it's THE Fantasy movie Also HOLY SHIT that's US in the Alicia's new background! RatsRatsRats!

Yeetus

THANK YOU!!!!

hemahemahema

chicken nuggets based financial planning FTW

hemahemahema

Not much to say - the trilogy is a perfect movie. A perfect, 12-hour movie.

Not Six Raccoons in a Trench Coat

One reactor to rule them all, one reactor to find them, One reactor to bring them all, and in the dungeon bind them; In the Land of Patreon where the Rat Queen lie.

Lulu

YES!!! been soo excited for this ever since it was mentioned.

masteroftheassassins

One of my favorite reactors reacting to my favorite movie trilogy?! And it’s the extended editions?! I bloody love it!

Uncle Urdnot

Holy shit it took my a good minute to realize there was rats moving on the ground in the background 😂

L Freya

A moment of silence for the nuggets that were sacrificed to provide the EEs... thanks! If you get into the movies the extra lore is nice and worth it!

MrZupraS

OMG I LOVE THE BACKGROUDN

hemahemahema

A bit more on the Rings: The rings of power (3 for the elves, 7 for the dwarves and 9 for humans) were made using Sauron's design, and in fact he personally made all except the 3 elven ones. This is why he can make the One Ring to control them all: he built a backdoor into the designs and the One Ring has like super-admin rights over all of them. This got him the nickname The Deceiver. And invisibility isn't actually a power of the One Ring, it's a side effect of it bringing the user into the Unseen World - it's like the spirit plane that overlaps with the real world, in this plane you can see the true forms of powerful beings like Sauron - and they can see you. Also if you keep putting it on, eventually you won't be able to get out of the Unseen World, you become a spirit. That's one of many reasons why you shouldn't use it, and why Gandalf was not happy with Bilbo's party trick.

Most Sane Oreimo Fan

Yo we just went to Hobbiton a couple of days ago, been living here in NZ for the past 5 years and it was my first time going to Hobbiton

Jobbe Smit
>>153694488

Is invisibility an effect of the Unseen World? I always thought the One Ring amplified your powers and the powers of Hobbits is being unnoticed. So amplified to the extreme this turns them invisible. At least within the official works of Tolkien, I can't say what the modern media productions added to that.

Kaz

Oh ok, she split it up into multiple parts for easier digestion... *sees the runtime* YOU SPENT AN ENTIRE WORKDAY ON 1 MOVIE, PLZ SLEEP

BILL XIONG

Frodo's parents died in a boating accident when he was 12 and Bilbo took him in.

WillGlacier
>>153695200

I mean that IS her job, y'know? Spending an entire work day doing what you do for a living seems pretty standard

Kampela

Fun Fact: Fairies and Elves were close to merge into one around time when Tolkien released Lord of the Rings, after book people started to distance Fairies and Elves into their own mythological beings. If not for Tolkien, Alicia might have... Sword Art Online Fairy Dance Arc like Elf model... think about that.

DRedd

Re: Lifespan Hobbits do live long lives, but the average is ~100. In human terms, Bilbo is basically an 83 year old man who looks like he's in his late 40s/early 50s.

rmplays

I wonder if she will watch the hobbit after lord of the rings

Aethergoggles

As someone who's 6 foot 6, can confirm i feel like gandalf when in some of the older buildings that have cieling beams like that

ShinyC4terpie

You said you wonder where they filmed all this. it was filmed in New Zealand

nick

goodbye "she haven't seen Lord of The Rings?!" hello and welcome "she hadn't seen Lord of The Rings?!"

hemahemahema
>>153694488

I don't think that's stated in the books. Also, if that's the case you'd expect Isildur to become super-strong or something. In any case, in the movie we also see Isildur becoming invisible when wearing the ring, and he's not a hobbit. Also if it amplified hobbits' powers of being unnoticed, it doesn't explain why wearing the Ring makes it harder to hide from certain beings - those who inhabit the spirit plane. They'd see you clearly...actually more clearly than if you weren't wearing the Ring. And the greatest evidence is something that's consistent in both the movies and the books...but I don't know if I can say it here, it's a spoiler for something that happens near the end of the whole saga.

N00B

1:27:00 of course. We are too short. We were destined as Hobbits or Dwarves. "Rock and Stone!" it is.

Toasted Toad

Extended edition so worth it. So many important things missed out of theatrical edition which help it make sense, or add another layer of meaning and emotion. As LoTR nerd, I'll try not to geek out too much. So excited!

Talon Karrde

Concerning Hobbits isn't in the theatrical and that alone makes it unwatchable for me, tho Ive never seen the theatrical cut, I wasn't old enough when it came out, and my dad always had the extended on disc.

Aku

cool background

Velhonen

Yippee LotR. Also so many rats in the background :D

Jobbe Smit

Someone forgot Peter Jackson started out making horror movies, he knows how to do jump scares and horror. "That's nice, at least you got a sidekick for the journey". Excuse me, Samwise is a goddamn hero.

RedRam-Ipsen

In total, the trilogy received 475 awards out of 800 nominations, making the films the most awarded film series in cinematic history.

Cole Savoie

So the temptation of the ring is proportional to the power of the weilder. Himans already have greed in their hearts and as you thought Gandalf is very powerful. Also Orc mud pits is film only. In the books they have babies just like every other race

Drewtendo

Alicia: "I yap a lot." She do be yappin, but it's the yappin that we're here for! So does that technically make it yappin or not? 🤣

Just4demons

Jesus!!! we are really watching all the bangers back to back huh ?!

PrivateXimmy
>>153697853

Tolkien was a yapper too, man spent an entire page blabbing about what a waterfall looked like. We’re in good company.

Scrubthulhu

LOTR is my favorite piece of media of all time!! I'm really excited and I hope you love it! (P.S. this does not mean I think it is without criticism)

Speed1247

Pretty sure Lord of the rings orcs are corrupted elves, hence why it's a form of elvish written on the ring. (My lore knowledge is lacking so please correct if wrong)

Shatol Darmelo

LORD OF THE RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINGS!!! God I'm so happy rn

Trevor Appel

57:52 The movies were filmed in New Zealand and the surrounding islands

Eansur

Fun fact, in the book when Gandalf left Frodo to investigate the ring in the first part. He was gone for 17 years. It doesn't come across in this movie, but Frodo is in his fifties right now.

Ray_Ra_Ray

You love Gandolf? 1 word: Magneto. XD

WillGlacier

Duuuuudeee there are so many scenes in this version that I have never seen before (like the wood elves) which is AWSOME !

ShreddedNinja

Fun Fact: Tolkien created Orcs. So yes, there are Orcs in Lord of the Rings, which didn't exist in literature before Tolkien.

Azel !!

I also love dragons, draggon deez nuts over your face that is.

Orbmaniac

"I hope you grab some snacks, were gonna be here a while huh?" good call. I'm gonna go cook something to snack on first.

Asher Morris

Ngl you had me also doing the DK rap

Tor Andre Frantsvaag

this aint told in the movies but in the first book Frodos parents Drowned becouse hobbits arent realy swimmers . except a few , thats why Bilbo Adopted frodo , also the ring changes depending on who wields it , to a human it is human sized to a hobbit its hobbit sized untill it want to get away thats why it slips off .

Blooocki :3

Oh youre doing it without your buddy? I'm surprised. Well that means you'll just cry even more

mykanike

I’m going to be eating so well tonight. I love shaving your reactions for when I’m doing hw. Also fun fact, Frodo and I share a birthday! During middle school I read a few pages of the hobbit before I gave up, and that’s the only thing I remember. Sep 22

mykanike
>>153706581

I guess that’s also Bilbo’s birthday, but I don’t care about him as much to be frank

Linnaeus
>>153698862

Not ALL the orcs, but yes, the ORIGINAL generation of orcs/goblins were made by twisting and corrupting elves thousands of years before LotR takes place. A recurring theme in JRR Tolkien's work is that evil can't truly create anything new/beautiful, only create twisted imitations or else corrupt what others have created. Similarly, the art of crafting magic rings was actually invented by the Elves, then Sauron walked among them in disguise to learn it and use it to create the Rings Of Power.

subete_wa

You know, I've never actually watched these movies myself, so this will be my first time too.

Shatol Darmelo

Pfft not Alicia using warhammer orc lore to explain lotr orcs :V

Linnaeus
>>153694488

The EXACT powers of the rings aren't clear, but there's a pretty good chance that Tolkien (being the lover of anglo-saxon and germanic mythology that he was) took at least a little inspiration from the Huliðshjálm from the Norse sagas (Tarnhelm in Wagner's Ring Cycle). Regarding the issue of the wielder's power, yes, the more powerful the wielder of the ring, the more power of the Ring they can access, but in turn the more power the Ring has with which to corrupt them. The movie sticks to a pretty good shortened version of Gandalf's original line: "No! With that power I should have power too great and terrible. And over me the Ring would gain a power still greater and more deadly...Do not tempt me! For I do not wish to become like the Dark Lord himself."

David Willard

If you love the shire's set and how it looks, it was made in the hills of New Zealand. Most of the trilogy was filmed in New Zealand matter of fact. And you can still to this day visit the shire since they built it into the hills for the film.

Linnaeus

Alicia, very happy to see you experiencing this story for the first time. It's an incredible adaptation of an incredible book, something that for a long time was said to be impossible. I will attempt to keep my lore nerdery to a minimum, but I will say that Lord Of The Rings is probably the single biggest "trope codifier" for modern High Fantasy tropes and designs in modern books, video games, movies, art, and pop culture in general. Tolkien was a lover of mythology and classical literature and took influence from Finnish, Norse, Anglo-Saxon, and other sources, but it's his remixed take that really created the modern versions of Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Hobbits/Halfings, and so on, and then other artists and creators have riffed on his versions to create their own original visions like the Eldari and Orcs in Warhammer 40K.

YukoValis

The biggest difference between the movie and the book is the time dilation. Want a good example? In the book when Frodo is given the ring it takes 17 years before he leaves the shire on his quest.

Tor Andre Frantsvaag

also almost all of the movies where filmed in NEw Zealand =D

ً

Alicia saying I don't mind the other 2 dying it's crazyyy 😂😂 really funny

hemahemahema
>>153701189

As a WWI veteran, Tolkien was amongst the first humans to ever witness MORE DAKKA. He did not put 2 and 2 together though...

Adam
>>153706282

Everyone else has seen it. She's doing the MCU alone as well. Coma hadn't seen Star Wars either, which is why they're doing it together.

GaimeGuy

We eating good today

Girthquake23

Her saying she identifies more with the hobbits made me immediately imagine her fiancé singing Kanye’s song from South Park “my girl ain’t no hobbit”

TradeMarc101

My favourite reactor reacting to my favourite movies??? Is this what heaven feels like?

Elias Cristerna

Fun fact, the actors that played Merry (Meriadoc Brandybuck) and Pippin (Peregrin Took) had voice roles in The Legend of Vox Machina playing Archibald Desnay, Percy's childhood best friend and leader of the resistance in Whitestone, and Garmelie, the Sayter from the Fae Realm who drew Vox Machina themed smut in his book.

Nim

1:26:21 Aussie here, we don't hate the other it's just some friendly shit talking and yes the movies are filmed in New Zeland

Minibom22

From what others have told me, the power and influence of the ring is proportionate to the creature. Gandalf couldn't even touch the ring without feeling the overpowering force of the ring, but a simple hobbit could lift it, carry it with them for years with little to no side effects.

David Willard

Fun fact, when the hobbits enter bree, and you see the villagers in the rain. The random one eating on a carrot was actually Peter Jackson the director himself in a small cameo role.

Kristian
>>153719092

He actually has a cameo in every film, so look out for him in random roles across the trilogy.

Kristian

YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LORD OF THE RINGS? HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY CALL YOURSELF AN ELF IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN LORD OF THE RINGS AT LEAST 94 SEPERATE TIMES! Sometimes I wonder if you are even a real elf Alicia, and not someone simply PRETENDING TO BE! Love this reaction, btw. Can't wait to see your reaction to the other two!

Bob Jacque

The DK Rap outta nowhere SENT me!

Seraphem

Finally the best Reactor Elf will learn the story of her people! That said, vibing with the Hobbits is fully legit! Also no, praising the OST will never get old, because it is that damn epic! Yeah, these movies are an incredible ride and so hyped for you these reactions!

Ronix

love Alicia getting jump scared

Faroth

Ah, yes, the original "dont split the party"of the rpg's and the only ones who stick together are the pair of murderhobbos who are trying to beat the killcount of the other 😅😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😂🤣

Faroth

Alicia: "there better be dragons" We: ahm... wrong movie, that's "The Hobbit", the story of bilbo, after this trilogy, i guess Funfact: they almost didnt used cgi for these movies, mlst is props and physical effects, like camer angles for the hobbits, like frodo and ga dalf in the cart, us a single canera shot, no editing later, so the size stuff is made by perspective tricks, which wasnt later used in The Hobbit and it was too obvious they didnt

Yagi di Hoshi

dildo daggins, the merchant from a zelda majora's mask let's play

Jared

Has she mentioned watching The Hobbit movies as well?

Kristian

Fun fact about 1:28:27: It talks about the story of Beren, a mortal man, and Luthien, an immortal elf whose love broke down the barriers between elves and mankind so they could be together. This is an OLD story in the world of middle earth, thousands of years ago in this setting. Here's the sweet part: On Tolkiens gravestone, under his name it says him and his wife's name, followed by "Beren" under his name and "Luthien" under hers. The story was apparently partly inspired by their own life experience, as Tolkien himself was a catholic and his wife was a protestant. They were kept away from each other at a young age because of this, despite their love for each other. They only reconnected after they reached adulthood and could then be together without outside interference.

Yagi di Hoshi

there's also bits of The Hobbit that id love to see her react to

LanaKomHeda

Omg the new background is gorgeous!!!! Love it! All the motion is so cool and I love all the little rats lol! And the color scheme is dope! The green really pops

Salem

By far one of my favorite franchises ever made. Nearly everything about it is as close to perfect as movies can get

NickAsNickName

today i've found kinship in Alicia - dragons are awesome beyond compare, and they're my favorite animal, real or not

NickAsNickName

here i sit, with a bottle of my favorite soda, watching a vtuber i've been a fan of for a while, react to my favorite movie trilogy ever. does life even get any better than this?

Liesmith

The li'l rats in the new background are so adorable!

Yagi di Hoshi

i could go for some Soup Samwich tbh but i don't have Cash, just Nanaf it. i can't be with the Billionaires at this rate

Wildstar

This is where the fun begins

Yagi di Hoshi

the burping guy at Bree was Peter Jackson, the director, btw

Niravathu

Ok so real quick, Warhammer Orks and Tolkien Orcs are two very different things. These Orcs are not fungal beings that just grow, the ones rising from pits in the ground that Saruman is making are essentially being genetically engineered.

rrrebo

HEEEERE WEEEEE GOOOOOOO!!!

rrrebo

Magic rings shrink to fit, and they showed the One Ring doing exactly that when Isildur picked it up.

dz1jgmeyer

Quick clarification for that scene where Gandalf is muttering to himself, "riddles in the dark" is the title of the chapter in The Hobbit where Bilbo gets the ring from Gollum. It's the filmmaker's shorthand for "Gandalf is thinking about when Bilbo met Gollum".

rrrebo

All filmed in New Zealand. It's GORGEOUS!

Leticia

loved the background!

dz1jgmeyer

Yep, the Rings discussed at the start were given by Sauron.

Matt

That birthday story lmao

Joey Cat

Love the new background ^^

V_VMat

31:37 Children are brutally honest and that's so funny 😂

Ignis Flame

when Alicia saw the hand reaching for Frodo, she screamed so loud it scared my dog

Aerowind

Fun fact, they basically depopulated a part of New Zealand for extras in the war scenes for this trilogy. They hired something like 20,000 extras.

Ellerian

Glad to see you've finally started watching Peak: Movie 1 Fun fact: The entire soundtrack is on Spotify and other streaming services now, movie by movie.

Nox Demetre

I love how the ring hits the floor when billbo drops it, That very prominent "THUD" as it lands like its a heavy ass object.

Zee Grog

Love the reaction part one. But my primary take away is donkey Kong 64 theme stuck in my head as I sang along with you

Artemis

It is such a rare treat to see someone react too lord of the rings that knows so little about it. Makes the reaction so much more fun

Sweyn Nelson

When this came out I thought the line: "im old Gandalf, I may not look it but I feel stretched, like too little butter across bread." Was amusing, but now that I'm mid 40s, I absolutely feel that quote in my rice crispie sounding joints. Now if you will excuse me, it's time for my ibuprofen

Kap

Time to see Alicia's reaction to PEAK

Anzac-A1

People have probably mentioned this, but all of the LotR movies were filmed here in New Zealand.

Anzac-A1

The Orc chanting in these movies was actually done by Peter Jackson recording the crowd at a rugby game. During halftime, he instructed the crowd what the chant, then recorded it.

Jimmy Recinos

9:08 bruh how did I not noticed gollum’s hand before he turn gollum 😂🤣

REI

I'm sure you're aware, but the Lord of the Rings is technically a major sequel to "The Hobbit", a book that came out long beforehand and was about the adventures of Bilbo Baggins. One of the highlights was finding a magical ring and challenging riddles in the dark against the creature Gollum. A lot of this setup is passing on the torch to the new Main Character, Frodo.

Fobbles

This is it… after this point I’ll be the farthest from home I’ve ever been…

Stuart R McCafferty

Alicia's meme knowledge is gonna make it tough to avoid the pre-watch allegations.

Karatsuki

This do be one of the movies of all times

Karatsuki

One thing to note is that in the books Saurons defeat was way more hard to achieve than just cutting off his fingers

Karatsuki

In the books the birthday party and Frodo staying with the ring in the shire took multiple years but for good reasons Peter decided to shorten the start of the movie down considerably

Vegvisir92

Gandalf and Saruman have been friends for a very, very, very, very long time, plus he is the head of the order so its only natural that Gandalf would go to him for advice about the ring....technically they could be considered cousins in a way but thats going down a huge rabbit hole of lore

Daniel Gonzalez

Well despite it kinda getting downplayed a bit in the films Merry and Pippin are actually both Frodos cousins from different sides of his family so if course they'd be willing to throw down and in the books pretty sure he's a good deal older than Sam so he actually looks up to Frodo still love this trilogy as for the Hobbit I felt 2 films max was needed to tell that story if we only got 3 out of Rings never watched them but also never really heard praises like these films

Daniel Gonzalez

Alicia is onto something I know these movies racked up Academy Awards except for Picture and Director till RoK so they definitely had to be in best score for this one probably make-up and special effects also I'd guess

Levi Price

Alicia don't feel bad about the names, JRR Tolkein was intentionally anoyiing at making names. in the first book their are 12 dwarves named Dwalin, Balin, Fili, Kili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur, Bombur, and Thorin. and your only given all their names onces

Memento Forever

I just realized all 3 posts are the same first movie and not the 3 movies, lol

Fobbles

Ooo new background!!! Ok ok imma guess… what’s that a mouse? It looks like a mansion or a library… mystical… Imma guess the new model is gonna be like a royal queen of rats in her regal manor. Or like a Lady Demitresque but of rats

NekoSoophie!

Fucking living for this reaction! I love seeing people react to lord of the rings for the first time, it always makes me so happy lol

hemahemahema

LOTR orcs are not Warhammer Orks lol. Even though it's fun thinking of LOTR orcs as oversized mushrooms (they are corrupted elves in the lore. Or something)

Lord_Zweihorn

Alicia being a hobbit just fits so much better

hemahemahema

I just realised with Fellowship of the Ring and Incredible Hulk later, Alicia is having a Liv Tyler week.

Nikolaus Trixner

The song with Beren and Luthien is an old story, a legend that Aragorn sings about. Funnily enough, Arwen is a descendant of Beren and Luthien, since they had a son, Dior, whose daughter Elwing married another half-elf named Eärendil, and those are Elrond's parents. So he was basically singing about his fiance's great great grandparents.

Nikolaus Trixner
>>153923284

Maybe also of note is that Elrond's brother is a (very distant, like 60+ generations) ancestor of Aragorn. Immortality makes family relationships weird.

Bolo The Wise

fun fact about when Gandalf entered Bilbo's home and hit his head! McKellen's (Gandalf) bump was completely unscripted and the actor genuinely knocked himself on the set, but stayed in character, acted through the pain and performed so well that Jackson used the shot!

Kino
>>153902109

It's changed several times. I think that Orcs really weren't meant to be overly in-depth and originally he just needed an evil race that works for Sauron. As time went on though the idea of a race being inherently evil became a negative and Tolkien realized that.

GingerBardMan
>>153902109

She may or may not be right about orcs reproducing asexually. In one version Tolkien has them built from clay and the earth, and not actual living things; that makes it easy to say "all orcs are bad". In another version they are corrupted elves, which makes them more interesting, but Tolkien himself struggled with that version because he hated the idea of a race of living beings being all evil (but he also never allowed for good orcs). He never managed to resolve the issue to his own satisfaction before he died.

Gildarts1#fan

Never seen the extended editions before, they are pretty cool.

hemahemahema
>>153902109

It was an impossible conundrum I'm afraid, because they are treated as disposable enemy mooks more or less, it's hard to get around that.

Unstablebeast

Fun fact, the elvish in these movies and the books, is a full language that tolkein created, the word dwarves also didnt exist until tolkein, before that it was dwarfs but he didnt like how that looked, so he changed it and it got added to the dictionary

Unstablebeast

After you finish the movies, id highly recommend checking out the shadow or mordor and shadow of war games

Wurzaags Morky Mischeif

No Alicia, sadly enough these Orks are not the DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA variety. BUNCHA GITS!

Hhound42

No, Alicia, weed is pipe weed not the wacky weed, they actually sell Old Toby now as a brand of pipe tobacco. Oh, yes, Gandalf is the GOAT lots of surprises in store for you watching Gandalf.

HKelnix

Alicia can you speak elvish? You definitely speak rat … so just saying. Amazing reaction thanks Alicia ❤️

Oh! That Robin

I’m having so much fun watching your reaction. This is one of my favorite movies to watch with my family. We watch at least one of them or even the hobbit series once per year ^^

Brahm Etc.

It is nice watching how much fun you have watching these movies!

Tanner Chrisler

A comment for right there at the end, something I think you’d love: Arwen in the books is described as almost identical to Tolkien’s actual wife. “What would the most beautiful woman in the world look like?” Tolkien (Gigachad): “Unironically, my wife. Next question.” King shit.

Robert

bro I have that exact combo of brown curly hair and blue eyes and its kinda weird ngl

Rhodair
>>154555323

Aye, they mention once in the books it being tobacco. However in the movies, it's very much so the wacky weed.

Rhodair
>>154390173

very good games so long as there's no expectations of canon lore - they should be approached as a very fun fanfic

Unstablebeast
>>154390173

Yeah, tho some things in the game are cannon becausethey were directly mentioned in the books, some aren't, some directly breaks canon, but it all still FEELS like lord of the rings, and the lore appendix gives alot of actual lore that you'd only get from the samorelian

Dain Greywall

Orcs don't come from fungus in the LOTR universe, they reproduce sexually just like every being. They work very differently from the Orks in warhammer. I am not sure if the orcs origins is a spoiler since I am pretty sure I remember it mentioned in the movies why how and where orcs came from so no potential spoilerinos from me Also I gotta mention as a massive fan of these movies and as a fellow filmstudent I advice against watching the extended cuts as your first viewings, especially the 3rd movie as the un-extended cut has much better pacing where the extended cut sadly ruins some of the suspense in the movie near the end. I know a lot of people will disagree with me on that, saying the extended cut is the superior, and I do agree. However I find the extended cut to only be superior as a followup viewing of the cinematic cut. Ultimately it is purely up to you so Dain out, I do hope that you love the series as much as the fans of Tolkien do. Enjoy watching the other movies, no matter which editions you choose to watch :D

Chris Ward

New subscriber here from YouTube after checking out your helluva boss reactions. Gotta give you extra props for not even being 2 minutes into the video and a wild Tegan and Sara reference appears with “Feel it in my Bones”!

1 Ring to Rule them all 9 for Mortal men doomed to die 7 for to the Dwarves in their Halls of Stone 3 For the elven kings under the sky 1973 is the Year Tolkien passed

Matt Clark

The thing with Gandalf rejecting the ring has less to do with Age and more to do with power. Essentially, the more powerful you are, the stronger the Ring's temptation is. The reason the hobbits are much less effected is because they are small and don't want for great things, which gives the Ring much less material to tempt with.

Yaboi7117

Hope you do the other LORD OD THE RINGS and Hobbit movies

Giddo

D.K. rap jumpscare!

Nick DiRubio
>>154882107

I'm late to this, but in the books it is mentioned that Orcs are manufactured, they do not breed. Rings of Power made that up.

SweetCandle

Feeling "like butter scraped over too much bread" is just so poetic and so real.

Random3x

A thing kinda brushed over in Gandalf going off to investigate and returning to Frodo is that it was 17 years

Random3x

Also of note it is canon that the Shire is incredibly difficult to navigate. The Ring Wraiths continously kept getting lost/side tracked trying to find Bag End. It's more a reference to small British villages where only the locals could find their way around. There is also a jokey fannon that the Hobbits made it hard to navigate to stop Gandalf as he is an odd one that makes Hobbits do un-Hobbit things

Scott Cleveland

Thanks for watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I own it on DVD, Blu-ray, and Amazon prime. But I have enjoyed watching you discover this amazing show. So I wanted to say I hope you get to feeling better soon and keep being amazing.

Yuul B Alwright
>>154882107

The movies also show orcs (or at least Uruk-Hai) being birthed from mud. I believe the first Orcs were Elves that through torture and mindfuckery got corrupted into monsters, then once Sauron had his blueprint orc he built a legion of the fuckers. Saruman's Uruk-Hai are Orcs that got enhanced with either goblin or human traits, maybe even both. That's why Uruk-Hai are much more comfortable traveling at daylight. Sauron doesn't need that because he has a volcano that can cause global cooling by blotting out the sun when it explodes, and also malignant magic ig.

Yuul B Alwright
>>154655015

You know what makes it even better? Remember the song that Strider sang to himself after leaving Bree? It's an Elvish love ballad about Luthien and Beren, a human man and an Elvish princess, who was said to be the single most beautiful thing ever found on Middle Earth. A literal angel, in fact, as her mother was a Maia who took the shape of an elf. She also gave up her immortality, but did do because Beren died a tragic death while fighting, among other things, the court of Morgoth, Saurons master and the literal devil, and she was so bummed out about it she full on died of a broken heart, did an Orpheus and went to the realm of the dead, where she sang so hauntingly beautifully it convinced the king of the place to let Beren come back again in return for her eventual mortality. And if you read Tolkien's notes, Arwen is Luthien's descendant, which is why she's so beautiful, and Beren, the human male, is the only clear author self-insert Tolkien has ever made. Tolkien named his wife the most beautiful thing to walk the earth, a literal child of angels, and himself the luckiest human ever to have the love of an half-Elvish, half-angel princess who goes to hell and back just to get her hubby back. And if you think writing a fucking epic for your wife is not commitment, then let me sing about the epic of me dieing on that hill!

1:40:00 oh my god, I started singing the high song at the exact same time you did 😂

Lol I'm watching this now that she's finished the movies XD And just as a lil spoiler by the end of it she's going to care SO LITTLE that there wasn't a dragon XD Also these are not just Orcs .. these .. are the FIRST orcs XD And the elves are the first time elves appeared in fiction as we know them now. Even the idea of a wizard with that tall wide brimmed wizard hat was popularized by lord of the rigns. It's easy to underestimate just HOW much of a cultural touchstone LOTR was. It single handedly created the fantasy genre. And almost everything we associate with classic fantasy today comes from this work. Perhaps similar concepts existed before. But they weren't what we would recognize as classic fantasy tropes. That's why I laugh when people say LOTR is too generic XD Brotha LOTR isn't generic .. it IS the genre.

The movies were filmed in New Zealand like you suspected! Rinvendale is inspired by the Lauterbrunnen valley in Switzerland where Tolkien went on vacation to with is parents as a teen

Karl Wikman

it would be lit and cozy if we had a stream where Alicia just listens to the LOTR audiobooks along with the chat. pprefferably with some artificial fireplace noises in the background

When Gandalf was first sent to Middle Earth alongside the rest of the wizards by the Valar, the gods of Tolkiens universe, he said he did not want to go because he feared Sauron, so Manwë, king of the Valar, said that that was exactly why he did need to go

Honestly, no idea of this or not, could be completely ignorant, but have you ever played Skyrim or any Elder Scrolls game? I love LOTR, but their Elves are a bit too vanilla for my tastes. And I'm sure I'll get crucified for saying that, but it's my truth and I'm sticking with it.

You aren't entirely wrong. LotR set so many standards in modern day high fantasy so while elves existed in mythology and folk tales before the books, most modern interpretations are probably based off Tolkiens version. So they are basically vanilla in regards to modern day fantasy elves if everything else is just modified versions of them.

"this isn't a horror movie" when I was listening to the fellowship of the ring audiobook, with a bunch of the movie sound effects integrated, it very much felt like a horror story for a bit. when the tension in the story was high hearing sudden Nazgul screams in the background was chilling. "Gandalf is kind of strong, if he gets tainted, imagine how screwed we'd be." yep, and the ring grants more power the more powerful the wielder is, of course, it gains more control of you as a result aswel. Lord of the rings orcs are not a fungus, that is unique to warhammer orcs, orcs in middle earth are a corruption of the elvish race, as evil cannot truly create, only pervert and destroy. One of the things that allows lord of the rings to age so well as a movie (in my opinion) is the fact that so much of it is really well made props, prosthethics, miniature models, real landscapes, etc. some random fun facts of the top of my head: The smiths from Wētā Workshop that made the actual armor and weapon props also show up in the movie as smiths, like the orc smiths in this one. so they got to make the weapons, and then pretend to make the weapons again. The one ring props, consisted of a couple different sized rings of solid 18ct gold, made by a jeweler called Jens Hansen. not sure about the other rings. Elijah Wood (frodo's actor) got to keep one of those one ring props from the movie, which might explain why he barely looks any older than when the movies were made. there's quite a bit that's changed between the movies and the books, i'd say most of it necessary for a movie adaptation. One interesting one is that in the books Frodo has the ring for seventeen years before Gandalf figures out it's true nature and he needs to flee the Shire. it really shows how gradual the return to power of Sauron and his forces really is.

I already watched this on YouTube. I subscribed so I could watch you watch the whole thing. I am really happy that you enjoyed it as much as you did cause it’s hard for somebody who would sincerely enjoy this movie to have missed it so I’m glad that it holds up enough you caught the magic.

ShonenJump247

You were saying they were old at this moment Frodo is 50, Sam is 38, Merry is 36 and Pippin is 28.

Arwen is Strider's lover. The song he sings is like a folk song about someone else's experience

The End of Time (AKA Theo the Minotaur)

This is the n-th time I've watched this movie and I just noticed the symbol of Saruman, the white hand, is subtly displayed on the doors that shut on Gandalf at 1:04:07

A thing that always baffles me is that the main hobbits are supposed to be in their mid 30s.

Tor Andre Frantsvaag

not sure if you will see this but i hope you will react to the behind the scenes of the main trilogy aswell =D i think youl love it as one that have studied filming was it ?

Tor Andre Frantsvaag

i hope somone corrects me but i can atleast say this now since youve seen all the movies but reason frodo aleready feels the effect of the ring isint just the ringwraith , While the book features this long 17-year delay while Gandalf researches the Ring, the film adaptation implies a much shorter time, perhaps only months or weeks, making it appear that Frodo leaves shortly after Bilbo. frodo in the books was 50 years old when he left the shire. also fun fact bilbo and frodo has birthday same day

I also have a very hard time with names. I gave all my friends nicknames. Because when we started to drink, I'd forget their names. Sarah - Sriracha Justice = Jumice Kalem = Crayon Chris = Crimbuss Cassie = Cash Money I'm SO MUCH BETTER with faces than names.

As an ancient Millennial nerd, I had read The Hobbit and the entire Lord of the Rings series by the time I was 13. I had the privilege of seeing all three film adaptations in theaters when they first released. In my late teens I knew a fair bit of Quenya*, to the point my nerdy autistic ass was using it for greetings and veiled insults. Anyway, before I ramble too long: I can't tell you how happy it makes me every time I get to see someone experience it for the first time. I could literally gush about this trilogy's production for hours. * Quenya is the language the elves speak. J.R.R. Tolkien was, among many other things, a linguist. Like, an actual degree-holding linguist and historian. So, unlike many fantasy languages, Quenya doesn't just have a handful of words with one-to-one translations. He made a whole alphabet, grammar, and syntax for it.
