Watching this (and the second part), I’ve always thought Allan was more just the oblivious type and not overly malicious, and his worldviews and behaviors were built up by his childhood. Made more bad mistakes and choices than bad intentions, at least from what I can tell. Jen, on the other hand, is a legitimate Karen and is not a good person. She clearly gains enjoyment when she sees others getting “put in their place”, like a bully in kindergarten watching their target get in trouble.
