Since Batroc the Leaper and Arnim Zola have been covered, I’ll offer up a bit of comic book lore on the Winter Soldier and a little bit about Baron Strucker. The Winter Soldier aka Buck Barnes was introduced/brought back in the late 90’s or early 2000s after being thought dead for decades, even showing up in a team of dead heroes called the Legion of the Unliving at one point. As it turns out after falling into the Ocean he was found by the Russians and made into a cybernetically enhanced super assassin and kept in cryo in between missions. He then fell into the hands of the Red Skull who used him in a plot that ultimately ended with Captain America being assassinated (I’ll give you three guesses as to the long term ramifications of that). In the comics Bucky is now a super hero again and part of a spy team called The Thunderbolts. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (the bald, German dude from the Mid Credits Scene is kind of the Anti-Nick Fury of Marvel and for a long while held the position of Supreme Hydra. You’ll see some more of him and the “twins” a little later down the road.

MadMax 1513

i'm rolling here because alicia thought fury was serious about his wife kicking him out lmao

YukoValis

So in the comics it was the Russians that found bucky and turned him into this. Thus "Winter Soldier" and the red star on his arm. Also why he speaks Russian to the henchmen. In the movie here they switched that over to hydra which honestly I say was a good change.

At 1:46:45, the doctor patching up black widow is actually Joe Russo, one of the directors of the film. Side note, this is a lot of people's favorite movie of the mcu. Not mine, personally, but a lot of people's.

Grandmasta

Part of what makes Chris Evans so good in his fight scenes as Cap is his background in ballet. he has excellent control and grace.

Azi

This is not the "marvel dialogue" kind of movie. This has good writing. Not all of their movies suffer from it, but they are so prone to it that it was forever associated with them... I think this is my fav marvel movie...Ahh but iron man and one other comes close...Yeh i have a top 3 let us say!

DeadlyDangerRanger

One of the best things about this movie is that it pays homage to older political thriller movies, like "The Manchurian Candidate;" they even cast Robert Redford (who plays the Alexander Pierce character here) due to his previous role in the 70s political thriller "Three Days of the Condor."

Jeff

I love this movie, and Sam is one of my favorite characters in the MCU. Watching Alicia spaz about Sam was awesome.

Patrick McIntyre

Unless I'm misremembering the order, guardians should be next. I can't wait to see how alicia receives all the new characters there. 😍

chronostorm

You'll be very happy to know, then, that the TWO directors (brothers, at that), work on MULTIPLE other Marvel projects you'll see very soon. Enjoy!

Rakoon Shampoo

I wonder if there’s any plan to cover the Fox Marvel films.

Ryan Hayes

2:00:00 Her name in this is Maria Hill...played by Cobie Smulders a Canadian actress. I loved her role in the MCU!

Ryan Hayes

NEXT NEXT NEXT NEXT!!! I NEEDS IT!

This movie is amazing. I love Sam/Falcon so much. Many people consider it one of the best films in all of marvel. Also, I don’t know if you’re planning on watching any of the marvel shows, but I highly recommend agents of shield.

EthanEverhart

I absolutely LOVE when you go all film school on these movies. It's like I'm re-watching these movies from an entirely new perspective.

Rowdeemunkee

Oh, btw the main pirate in the beginning was so caked up because that's George St Pierre, a Montreal native who was the UFC heavy wieght champion multiple times over the years, Olympic gold medalist for wrestling (with an injured back) and is widely considered one of the greatest mixed martial artists to ever compete professionally. All that would lead to one fantastic ass.

dokidokiIl42

so glad to watch you react to the best marvel movie

Paul R Peddy

Not telling you you should, but I think you'd really enjoy Agents of Shield. It's about (believe it or not) the agents of SHIELD in the MCU and the shit they go through in between the movies. It's got a really cast like Ming Na Wen (voice of Mulan and one of the most badass star wars characters you haven't met yet) and even brings in some folks from the movies over for like a crossover. It's pretty long with like 7 season I think but really think you'd like it for the plot and the world building

Charlie baker

man the scarlet Chris chemistry was always wayy way better then ruffalo and scarlet, they really shoulda committed to the comic relationship these two sometimes end up with

Six

id like to add, "just following orders" is not a legal defense, you are never allowed to follow unlawful orders, no matter who gives them. they might feel like they have to out of fear, but its still very much illegal

Hobojoedogbro 64

This is easily my favorite movie in all of Marvel

Jaquan Ford

this stretch of marvel is their peak.

Nicholas Denholm

I really can't wait for you to react to the next Captain America movie which is my absolute favorite.

IceMaverick

Winter Soldier is such peak Marvel. The Marvel movies were pretty sold to audiences as a big build up to The Avengers and we got that huge crossover movie hype delivered to us. Winter Soldier - I think - is the movie that sold the MCU as a whole to audiences. The movie that showed people that The Avengers was not the conclusion of all of that Marvel work, but the beginning of a saga of films. Winter Soldier should stand as a model for every franchise - including modern Marvel - of how you've gotta perform to bring the audience back into the universe after showing them what everyone thought was going to be the end of the big show.

Cyber

"That girl is scary... yup that girl's a problem" GIRL, you have no... idea.

Sincere Sarcasm

Definitely top 5 all time MCU Movies right here

Nightmareman99

Gd man serious these films are so much better than I remember and god I’m just now remembering how great some of the twists are. Have fun with guardians. Those films has a much different feel from the rest of the marvel movie but gd they are just so fun

BlueSummer

Alicia's excitement over Sam gives me life. XD

Hellguin

I love how hyped you were with Sam, He is so fun.

Valewall

48:00 Cracks me the hell up. Absolutely hilarious.

Ed Ambriz

Winter Soldier is still considered one of, if not out right, the best marvel movies. The Peggy scene always gets me, my grandma had dementia and when she'd come to the realization my grandpa was dead she would always cry. It always fucks me up.

The Force

Let's be honest, Payday 2 aint a stealth game xD Also I was the groups heavy as well, loud and proud. Stood outside by the truck till one of em beefed it then came marchin in through blood and lead

Silver Blade

first captain america movie he went through ice, in this one he went through fire... air and earth left, i guess

mitchhamilton64

a little detail someone pointed out thats so good and something i never noticed but as soon as sam starts talking about "oh, youre from 70 years ago? must be weird being in this time period now!" steve is about to dip out. he probably heard that conversation and been asked about it a million times and just doesnt want to engage, that is until sam starts talking about the problem with coming home and getting used to being mostly at peace. i really love that little detail

Lynn

Oh man, I don't know why it hadn't clicked before now but Black Widow's backstory is going to DESTROY Alicia emotionally when she gets there...

wiski

Definitely a top 3 or 4 Marvel movie for me, not sure exactly where it lands in there though.

Porpoise Power

Shield's desire to nuke NYC makes a hell of a lot more sense after this movie.

Adam & Miranda

bro I saw the one-piece joke trying to come out your skin the second they said pirate

LeonLea17

Sams Code name is Falcon

Arashi

Winter Soldier remains in the top 3 of my MCU admittedly I stopped fully watching all of them after Infinity War though I at least know roughly the plot of everything since. Still, Guardians is also an awesome film. (More so then even the studios thought that it would be)

Ace of Blades

Yep, sure enough. Even on a rewatch years later, this is pretty much my favorite Marvel movie. It had everything I want out of a superhero movie - great action and choreography, tension and twists, stakes that are high but not multiverse-ending, charming interactions between well-written characters, emotional gut-punches, excellent cinematography, and a clear vision with its pacing that ensures that it didn't drag or move too fast. Like Alicia said in Dark World, the scenes with the dark elves in that movie were a snoozefest and I was just waiting for them to go back to Thor, Loki, Jane... really, anyone else, just get these charisma-less goons off my screen as fast as possible until they do or say something interesting. In comparison, this movie didn't feel like it had any of those scenes at all. Cap isn't among my favorites in the MCU, but his movies consistently hit the best, to me.

Kyllix

"his eyes look familiar though" "maybe I recognize the actor from something" That's hilarious. Just absolutely the best. The combination of going into these movies blind, combined with how perceptive Alicia is of a lot of things really increases how much fun these reactions are for me.

Tony

Feel like this 1 is underrated by me, it always went under the radar for me until watching it here, it's so much better then I remember!

Staineless

Alicia: I knew he was the bad guy! I want y'all to know I called that shit! Also Alicia: Accusing literally everybody of being a villain in every show.

YukoValis

I still love that line "(Stark) he had a few suggestions once he got an up close look at our old turbines" Like really up close.. like caught in the thing about to die. Also watching this again I feel Sam at the beginning was being set up as a villain. When Steve says "You can't run everywhere" Sam kind of said in a sinister-like tone "No you can't" as if like saying "No you can't run from me". Anyone else get that?
