As far as i remember original Russian Roulette does involve chamber spin each time, i assume more twists of the game came later

I’m pretty sure the whole point of the show is that the “contestants” never really had a choice to not play the game. Remember that whole sequence where they decided to leave in season 1 but it turned out that none of them had a future regardless? In a world where poverty is death, only the rich are free.

The reason the dog guy was spending his free time doing that to homeless people was so that he could convince himself that they, and the people he knowingly sends to die, aren’t intelligent like him. Because if he can’t prove to himself that the desperate contestants are somehow lesser then he would have to grapple with the fact that he’s just been killing people for being unlucky.

I watched S1 in dub. I just couldn't do that again for S2. I'll watch dub anime from time to time, but the dub for this is just sooooo bad.

im pretty sure spinning the chamber each time is more of a phycological thing as the chance of getting the bullet are no longer fixed at a specific probability (1-6) but instead, every time the revolver is aimed at them, the chances of a bullet firing are completely random—anywhere from 0% to 100%. which is I think in a way far more terrifying but i can see how with every click your chances of dying also increase if the chamber isn't spun. either way its a fucked situation.

There are two variations of russian roulette actually, one where you spin the chamber each trigger pull and one where you don't. The most popular depiction of russian roulette in media is the latter though.
