The anime does a very poor job in helping understand powerlevels when it lengthens these encounters and adds extra scenes. It’s a bit disappointing. The manga makes it clearer that Luffy is fully outmatched and out of his depth, not being able to even tickle Kaido here and getting instantly one shot with a fairly effortless blow.

I think both the mange and the anime did well in showing how strong Kaido is and how not ready Luffy was. Given they are different media in manga the shorter/less panels you get of an encounter tells you how easily Kaidos can put down the Luffy. With in the anime I feel you need to draw out the fight to show how nothing Luffy has in his current arsenal can damage or even bother Kiado and it just take one swing from Kiado (not even a serious swing at that) to ome hit K.O. Luffy.

How can you blame Hawkins for using that smart tactic and praise Luffy and Nami for using their smart tactic against Cracker? Either you need to consider all of it cheating, or all of it’s fair game. There isn’t really an in between I don’t think.

No hate towards Luffy at all (well maybe some hate) but isn’t this the second time he almost got his crew packed up by punching someone?💀 one time with the celestial dragon, and this time with Kaido.

Anime: Shows just how fucking TANKY Kaido is. Luffy got off all of that arsenal of his, and all it did was make Kaido SOBER UP. Then it was GG. Manga: Luffy doesn't get even HALF as good a showing before he gets one tapped, showing just how far above Kaido truly is. I'd say both mediums showcase the absolute difference in POWER between Luffy and Kaido pretty well. Just in different ways.

While I actually like most of the stuff they added in the anime for this fight, I wish they hadn't let that last King Kong Gun hit. Don't get me wrong, the oneshot in the anime gets the power difference across well too, but in the manga we have Luffy pummel Kaido with the Kong Organ, Kaido gets up in a corner panel, we get two small panels of Luffy's and Kaido's eyes and on the next page Kaido is already past Luffy who is in the background with blood all around him. It's so fast we don't even get to see the hit. It's the last two double pages of chapter 923, I highly recommend checking them out

I really dislike the One Piece anime during this part. Every scene is just filled with so much filler which is not only pointless but also often just wrong in regard to the source material.

So in the manga, there wasn't even a clash when Kaido decked Luffy. One page he was in front of him, and in the next he was behind, having already crushed Luffy's chest. That's because in the manga Thunder Bagua makes the user move so fast it looks like the user teleports, but in the anime they changed it to just a strong hit for some reason.

Fun fact: the game "pirate worriors 4"'s main story was written around the release of these chapters/episodes, which means after this point the games story is non cannon, however its still not recommended to play it as the dlc has big spoilers for up to episode 1076
