Porpoise Power

On the whole the Hobbit movies need to be edited down to just two movies... that said. I really enjoy the the songs in Bag End. The songs, work really well, and just aren't, maybe barely represented in the LOTR trilogy.

Robert

Something to note about the Dwarves eating all of Bilbo's food is they were under the impression that he would join him, and thus all the food would go off in the meantime, so they went about eating it to make sure it wasn't wasted (that and as thinking they were invited guests, it is on the host to provide for the guests). Additionally, despite being messy when they arrived, they did make sure to clean up after themselves before leaving like proper guests should.

Patrick Waldeck

I really dislike the 2nd two hobbit movies (mostly the third one, honestly) but I actually quite like and appreciate the first one. It has a lot of whimsy and adventure and Martin Freeman is just absolutely perfect as Bilbo.

Seroili

I've been waiting for this. Lesgooooooo

Cabo Boose

I think the guy you recognized was in LOTR but he may have been a corpse if i remember my lore right XD

Zip The Turtle

So happy you're doing these! I think they get too much hate.

Imperial Guard

These movies are definitely flawed and do stretch out the og book, but MAN these movies get way too much hate. I absolutely love these movies. Even Battle of the 5 pages. Er- armies. Lol

Vini

you should check out legolambs there must be 3 on youtube

Moviejunkie

I think Unexpected Journey is my favorite out of the Hobbit trilogy.

DudeTrue

You're so hype for this movie that it makes me a little sad. Don't mind me though, I'm not here to poop on any parties. Blah blah blah opinions and garbage... WOO HOBBIT!

Faroth

43:03 Bilbo baggins. First ever person to read all the "terms and conditions" of a contract

Carlston Solar

Hmm. Alnost wonde rif she would see the classic 70s animation of Hobbit and two LOTR. She already got so much going on.

Niravathu

You've heard the name Balin before. That was Gimli's cousin, whose grave was found in Moria in Fellowship of the Ring. You've heard the name Gloin, too; that's Gimli's father.

SweetCandle

The one dwarf catching the boiled egg in his mouth was intended to be done by CGI, but CGI turned out to be unnecessary, and the excited reactions all around were completely genuine.

Afell Tale

I absolutely love the scene of the morning after the Dwarven party. Its so quite and Bilbo just walks around his home like a stranger after it was filled with such LIFE and PURPOSE from these Dwarves and one wise Wizard. So what does he do? He _chases_ that adventure.

Matthew Harms

Wondered when you might do these, but excited to see your reactions. Enjoy these movies.

Cashryn Sins

Time for some Bilbo Swaggins.

QuibblesAndGitz

I remember fondly when this came out! For the second movie Dennys had a "Build your own Hobbit Slam" menu!! I still miss their Honey Cake French toast and breakfast sausage combo... I still think about those honey cakes every time I go into a Dennys, even a decade later.... If this feels off topic to talk about food rather than the movie, well the movie is about a Hobbit!!! What's more on topic than talking about food!!!!

MMDXXX

OOH I was wondering when you were gonna watch The Hobbit, this will be yet another fun journey! While The Hobbit trilogy isn't quite as good as the legendary LOTR (though to be fair, those are some insanely big shoes to fill), it's still an enjoyable movie series especially for those craving more of the LOTR universe after watching the original trilogy.

Nick

love how the intro of the movie and Frodo going off into the woods to surprise Gandalf is right before the start of the first Lords of the Rings movie scene (after all the lore story telling in the start)

leviathan_13

11:30 I don't know the lore, nor if there is any deeper implication (it might just be an unintended feel of movie editing), but I find it quite eerie that the elves were already there with an army... they were too quick. Which means, there is the possibility that they didn't know about the dragon and weren't there to help in the first place, but to conquer. After they saw the dragon and that everything was lost, they turned around.

WillGlacier

I didn't even know the Hobbit had a extended edition so now I'm just more hyped to watch and see all the new scenes

Rhodair

the whole joking in the face of one's own mortality is a major aspect of Spider-man facing these freaky villains and using humor as a fear deterrent, so he's not too scared to take action against them

eladrin22

"is that the dwarf from the lord of the rings?" Oh, I see. All dwarves look the same to you? XD

Walnut - 3D Artist

the dwarf (gloin) you pointed out asking if hes from the other films, is actually the dad to that dwarf (gimili).

Rhodair

Here's the quick and dirty about these dwarves & elves: Thranduil, the Elvenking of Mirkwood, strongly desires the Gems of Lasgalen. These white gems were originally being crafted as a necklace for his wife, but she perished before its completion. These gems became tied to Thranduil's grief and desire to memorialize his wife. The dwarves claimed they did not receive adequate payment for crafting the necklace - disagreements were had and the dwarves ultimately kept the gems. Although they don't go into specifics of the dispute, I've always wondered if King Thror might've arbitrarily increased the cost at the last moment. Seems like the thing someone mad with greed would do.

Absolutely love these movies, there's just one thing that I learned about a year ago that broke my heart : when they filmed the LOTR trilogy, they relied heavily on practical effects, with camera angles and stuff to make the hobbits seem shorter, and the scenes where they were with characters from taller races actually had them interacting with each other. For The Hobbit, though, they've relied on CGI, green screens and post-production editing, especially for when Gandalf was interacting with the dwarves and with Bilbo. Ian Mckellen would actually be filming scenes alone, and I saw a clip of unedited footage taken during the filming, in which Ian Mckellen was acting is a though he was speaking with everyone else in Bilbo's house. Halfway through saying his lines, he just broke down into tears because not being able to actually interact with the other actors was too much for him. It was so heart-wrenching to see.

Cole Savoie

a little behind the scenes for these movies, because Gandalf is wildly taller than most of the main cast Ian McKellen had to act a lot in front of green screen talking to tennis balls to represent the actors. Being so alone caused Ian McKellen to break down on set announcing "This is not why I became an actor"

Ben Gross

37:33 you were wondering if that was Gimli from the other movies, no, that is Gloin, Gimli’s dad, if you remember, in the other movies he was introduced as “Gimli, son of Gloin”

Wurzaags Morky Mischeif

"Here lies Balin, Son of Fundin. Lord of Moria." Balin in this movie was the relative Gimli wanted to meet in the Fellowship of the Ring

Imperial Guard

Over the Misty Mountains is such a beautiful yet haunting hym. Genuinely underrated and overhated trilogy of flawed movies.

BreadCEO

the films get a lot of shade because they are a bit more "silly" than the OG trilogy but I think they are still very enjoyable and good films on their own.

Adrien

The Hobbit movies get shade for being more light hearted, but I personally took them like this. The hobbit movies are the memoirs of bilbo, who always liked to tell tall tales, and didn't go through the mental anguish as Frodo did. He also seems to be a more lighthearted and adventurous guy. Frodo on the other hand, instead of deciding to go on an adventure, was forced into one, was fatally wounded by a morgul blade, and had to take the ring far nearer to Sauron than Bilbo. The mental strain he must've had would have been incredible. And since both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings are like memoirs, the mentality of the person writing them, will change the way they portray their past .

Minidiamant

This is so hype, imma watch this tonight.

Brian Dixon

I am always down for some "Chip the Glasses, Crack the Plates". Tolkien had some good tunes.

Fobbles

If I remember right… the hobbit was a story Tolkien wrote for his kid when they were young, that’s why it’s sillier? Is that right?

Fobbles

The beginning of this movie does an amazing job of taking Dwarves from “Gimley the funny guy” and making them feel very deep and cultured. You can tell how important this is to them all

Noah Benden

37:35 dont know if someone else has pointed it out, but that dwarf is Gloin, Father of Gimli

Mas3nk0 ssj

Aren't elves In this Universe immortal, as in they can die from illness and wounds but as far as life span they are immortal, or am I miss remembering from another fantasy universe?

Goobert

You're not, they are biologically immortal, they can however choose to abandon their immortality like Arwen did

Adrian Langen

Fun Fact, the story of Bilbo´s ancestor inventing golf during that battle is actually not embelishment in the book, but a true story.

Kenneth Smith

"The Elves should be thinking about the long game because their so long lived." Yes but what you've forgotten Alicia, is Elves are also petty bitches who carry grudges LONGER than Dwarves the race most famous for carrying generational grudges.

Lance Ivy

you should realy watch ralph baxy's version . i like bulbeborn cumberbun as much as the next fellow but i think the va is better for smauge in it .

Lance Ivy

what if i told you as far as dragons go in middle earth smauge was not that big

LordVed

Yeah, compared to the dragons that existed during the end of the first age and second age, Smaug isn't all that large. Of course, if we are talking huge big bads, then Shelob's mother Ungoliant takes the cake, the table, and the chairs.

Malik myers

gimbli (the dwarf from lotr movies) is the son of gloin the dwarf you were thinking was him

Zakarin Talvas

I'm not unsociable either! I just... still don't have a doorbell. After four years living here.

Aliulo

The actor that plays Kili also played John Mitchel in one of my favorite shows of all time. He was one of the main reasons I ended up watching this movie back in the day.

Kyutoko

Ah Balin, my favorite of the Dwarves. I hate that the Goblins killed you in Moria.

Kyutoko

Alicia, I know this is a delayed reaction ten times over, but Thranduil was NOT there to fight Smaug. When he approached with his army, he was there to wage war on Ererbor for the White Gems of Lasgalen. The necklace was crafted for his wife, Legolas' mother. One of only two things he has left to remember her by, the other being Legolas.

Kyutoko

Glory Box, or Hope Chest. An unmarried woman in Australia or New Zealand, long ago, would collect linens and household items in a chest and save them up for when she was wed. So a household could be started right away. Think of it like a dowry, only it's for her use and not the groom's.
