The director had multiple interviews basically shitting on the fans of joker one saying they didn’t understand it, then made this shit to spit in our faces Oh and the ending is so so bad trying to pull the he wasn’t the joker the entire time. They tried that shit in a comic run and guess what? No one liked so it god written out. So why did they try it again. It’s the last of us 2 all over again

So if it wasn’t obvious, and it wouldn’t be if you haven’t seen it which is understandable, the first movie is an homage to Taxi Driver, a film before Joker that had similar premises. Since there was inspiration, Joker had a more clear direction to go down with its story. This, however, is what happens when you have no direction for a continuation of a story…it’s very awful lol

An example of a movie that really didn't need a sequel getting one pushed on it due to its own success. The first one was perfect as a standalone, or if they really wanted, they could have continued with darker and more grounded takes on other characters/villains from the Batman comics, with Joker being mentioned or having a part to play, but they just had to cash in. And the musical part just felt like them trying to hard to be artsy. Oh, and I think at the end they were trying to imply that the nobody who killed him is the real Joker? I don't fucking know, this movie was worse than I expected, and I didn't expect much.

actually I loved the second movie too because if you watch this movie not with a point of The Joker (Arthur Fleck) origin villain story but the Joker phenomena as Folie à deux (delusion or mental illness shared by two people in close association) but more spread through people minds and creating versions of Jokers we know. Something like joker from batman dark knight with a scars on his mouth (in the background when Arthur Fleck bleeds out he cuts his mouth). The Joker is not about a character joker its a Joker phenomena as whole. Because even in first film Arthur was a killer and looked like a new alternative origin story of joker but as a character Arthur could not become Joker and fight Batman. of course itis my opinion, but for me its sad that people made only bad impression of this film.

Because it's not just about having a clever concept and being pedantic about it. It is an issue if the presentation and pacing are also bad. Arguably It's a bad court drama that spends way too long just recapping the first one. And honestly managing to have some mediocre, if not outright bad musical sequences, when you feature someone of Gaga's caliber , is a major feat. Imo It fails as a social commentary since it had nothing new to say and wasn't subtle about that fact... especially the grandstanding about the danger of "hero worship". It's a character study about a character that has already been studied the first movie, and said even less this time.

So Phoenix and the director felt that the last movie didn’t need a sequel and was a perfect stand alone movie…but Warner seeing dollar signs said they’re gonna do a sequel whether they wanted it or not. And after getting a ridiculously fat check from Warner, they decided to move forward with a sequel. And it was a middle finger to everyone who loved the last one…I wish this movie never existed

I had my own little idea for the sequel before it came out: So canonically Harley is a psychiatrist. In the Joker world, Gotham cut funding across Social Services and she lost her job. I thought she would try to start rehabilitating Joker in order to prove that Gotham not taking care of its most vulnerable people is what created Joker, but the people are angry that he caused Thomas Wayne’s death and want him to be their scapegoat. Eventually she’d lose faith in the system that preys on the weak and join Joker against it. That was what I thought was going to happen in the sequel. And I was very disappointed.

Oh brother, the amount of contempt this movie has for the first one is insane, especially with how it feels like whenever they bring up the In-Universe Joker movie, they are fully referring to IRL JOKER Movie which would have details that these people do not have or would not have, such as the importance of the neighbor and Fleck doing a finger gun to blow their brains out or acting like this In-Universe Joker movie is a literal 1:1 creation of Arthur Fleck's journey in the first movie.

Nah even that is cope to exonerate the team. First off, after Joker, Bradley Cooper which was a producing partner split with Toff Phillips the director, and he was clearly part of the balance. Anyway Todd Philipps met Zaslav, the WB head honcho at the time, and was already open to directing the sequel in LA "with the right concept , budget and idea". Zaslav wanted to convince him to do another sequel at an even lower cost in London. In the end Philipps won full creative control and a higher budget. He wanted even less to do with DC, and to scrub it off. Imho it's a matter or pride and inflated ego, rather than some pseudo artistic sabotage. Honestly, If the first movie was about some random down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it would have accolades and success. But not a billion at the Box Office. He doesn't get that "fake" or not, people showed up because that guy was Joker.

Its just so sad, the actings good, the cinematography, the music is a bit much but most of the dialogue is good, the writing is decent like it makes sense for the vision that they are trying to portray, but the problem is the vision itself. Why would the make the joker himself just not be the joker? After all the development in the first movie that drove him to that point it's just shat on? And why is harley quinn just some obsessive joker fan girl? Obviously she should be into him at some point since it's harley quinn, but from the start? It's supposed to be that joker is a horrible influence on her but in this movie it's almost the opposite. And then after this long movie you just kill him? Why? Who actually wants to see that from a joker movie? And it's not even just that he's a comic book character, it's that the first film already established this context that he's become the joker, he was fully there mentally and had no regrets about what he did. But now in this film he does? Even if the way they twisted the context of the first one makes enough sense, it's still just something that nobody wants to see. So why? Why make so many decisions that appeal to such a small number of people? They could have easily made a good second movie, especially with harley quinn being involved, but they couldn't even make their dynamic interesting. There are just so many things they could have done to make it fit within the context of the first movie while also being compelling, but they just didn't. It's so disappointing.

Well the reason this movie is so terrible is because the director really did want a tomato thrown at the Joker. Around when the first one released: A LOT of the media, mainstream movie reviewers, and twitter people associated it with incels and called joker the "incel hero" and claimed only incels liked the Joker movie. The director didn't like that and to paraphrase an interview, he basically wanted to take the "incel hero" and completely destroy him to prove that incels are bad and his movie isn't an "incel calling card". Nevermind all the normal people that like his movie enough for it to gross a billion+ dollars.

That's exactly what it was. A lot of the online chatter surrounding the first Joker movie painted joker as a "hero for incels". The director didn't like that so he wanted to show that incels are bad and so he decided to do that by taking their "incel hero" and destroying him. Joker 2 was made to make fans of Joker angry because "only incels liked the Joker movie". This is after of course the studio pushed him to make a sequel he didn't originally want to make.

What REALLY made me mad watching this was seeing just how GOOD the movie was during the court scene when Arthur fully gave in to being the Joker. When he was going full on Joker in the court room with the southern accent that was REALLY fun and showed just how great it would have been if he had actually been JOKER the whole time. Since its late and Im tired I kinda skipped through a bit, but for me the movie is mid, like a 5/10 too many songs, even if its a musical the movie only needed like 3 songs. The rest felt random and the plot went nowhere and should have been a cooler ending if he was going to die anyway, he should have stayed as the Joker and went out in chaos. This Movie is a 5/10 for me. Or at least let bro escape. I understand the point of the movie and why it was made the way it was, but I think it should not have been made, if this was all they could come up with or to be more specific, wanted to do. I just watched the reaction. Yeah the point was to make us feel bad about liking the first movie so that all the people who wrote mean articles about the first movie would praise them for the second one. At the end the guy that stabs him is meant to be Heath Ledgers joker and he’s seen carving a smile into his face and laughing. Every reference to future things was so cheap and half assed in my opinion. I agree with you guys. Walking back the first movie was the biggest “fuck you” to everyone watching. I also miss evil villains in movies. Everyone is trying to make them either boring or secretly good. The singing was way too much and added nothing except maybe pain and suffering to the audience. I’m going to try and pretend that this movie was just a bad dream and it never actually existed. I suggest that everyone else does the same in order to preserve your sanity. The title is a reference to a psychological disorder known as Shared Psychotic Disorder better known as folie à deux (Crazy for Two) where a person with Delusional disorder (where they usually have one or more belief or hulisination that isn't real) passes that delusion two another person they are relatively close to (most commonly a family member or significant other).

I knew it was bad but i wasnt ready for this bad.. my goodness I didn't like Joker 1 a ton, but it was a good interesting movie. It's sad to see them take the parts that were good about it and kind of crap all over it

I imagine she wouldnt be as bothered if it was it's own movie, but being a sequel to the previous Joker film and having such good talent in both the acting and cinemaphotography just be wasted makes seeing them drop the ball that hard be even more painful than it would've been otherwise (also that particular plotline is notably overdone and not to mention kind of harmful to actual people with DID)
