MrZamnes

Lets go! Love this show~

Balmung

so fast!!

KYLE

Yayyyy

nervouspirate

I’ve been excited for you in particular to meet Kamala for some time now. The show nails her characterization, though they changed her powers pretty significantly. She’s supposed to have mass changing powers like Choji from Naruto. You should read the first couple volumes of her comic! They were huge when they came out.

Rowdeemunkee

Not a bad show choice and I'm assuming it's for The Marvels but uhhh we skipping falcon and the winter solider till Brave New World?

Zarathos Daimaoh

This show often took some flak from people that never watched it, were mad at newer Marvel movies, or were never the target audience for it. It's a decent and fun teens/kids show, that tries to relate to the Muslim and Pakistani/India diasporas . it's not aiming at the same heights than say Wandavision

Kyutoko

WOOHOO!! LET'S GOOOOOO!! I failed my first two driver's tests. Didn't see the "one-way" sign the first time and pulled into the right lane on a left turn. Second time, pulled into the correct lane, but didn't merge to make the right turn. But hey, third time's the charm! I haaaate that "Latinx" stuff too. I don't have a single friend who identifies as latino or latina who wants to be addressed that way.

Curtis Murphy

I hope you enjoy it. Personally I think all the Marvel TV shows are, at bare minimum, Decent, with myself genuinely thinking most are Good.

King'sBard

As a straight-passing white guy(?) I loved it.

nervouspirate

There’s just one that’s straight up bad and I hope she skips in its entirety. Secret Invasion.

Thaïsgrün

There is no secret invasion ini Ba Sing Se.

The Lazy Gamer

She's got a list of things to watch in a certain order, she's not making choices.

Matthew Newton

It probably won't be next next but I do think it's on her radar because people keep asking for it. She needs to do Falcon/Winter Soldier

Matthew Newton

C'mon don't you want to see her reaction to that scene in the last episode? I kid. I agree it's better to skip that one

Andhy salvatore

Yeah her discord said she wont be doing it as its nit connected to the mcu currently so F&W is next as it’s important for few movies next, its a bummer cuz it would be a fun little watch 😂😭

Curtis Murphy

Ooooh yeah. Totally forgot that one.

PrivateXimmy

This shows a weird one for me. Loved the A plot, B plot bored me to tears

DaichiOkami

They changed her powers for the show not sure why. In literally everything else like vomics games and so on. Her powerid that she can grow in size and stretch. Like big fist girl from mha combined with Mr fantastic. But the whole body. Or a luffy of sorts. Inflating body parts to make them big and extending them to fight. Not this weird cosmic magic thingo. I haven't seen this show so I don't know much context besides the fact they changed her powers

RF

"Good is something you do not a thing you are" is more or less the main thing of Kamala. It is so good cause she is a very complex character who doesn't always know if she's doing the right thing or what that even is and is often faced with a string of bad options. So glad you finally got around to this show, can't wait until you see The Marvels.

Switchchris27

They changed her powers BECAUSE of it being to similar to Mr.Fantastic, and the fact that she isn't a Inhuman anymore. They are bringing in the Fantastic Four and Mutants into the MCU and Ms.Marvel is gonna be a big player going forward thanks to her seemingly being the leader of the New Avengers after Secret Wars. Her having to similar powers to Mr.Fantastic would get them compared way to much.

Emeradis

Ant got abducted by aliens...

Phantomhive

Gotta love Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi

King'sBard

It's a weird order, not just Release wise but also Timeline wise.

Rowdeemunkee

It's odd but kinda makes sense, she's watching what is relevant based on the movie release order. Besides loki, but that was the first one released.

Ranginald Vagel

This was the perfect series to bring Ant on. I love these cultural conversations so much that this might honestly be my favorite Alicia video.

Jobbe Smit

I'm happy the show hits the notes for Alicia I hoped it would. No longer feel bad for pushing for it. Even as an adult man this show was a pleasant surprise when I watched it, just really solidly made.

Alexander deLongchamps

Before I watch this show I didn't think it would be as lovely as it was then I did watch it and it was such a pleasant surprise, Kamala is such a lovable and adorable dork of a hero, she could have easily come off as annoying or cringe but they make her feel like simply just a teenager who has a lot of love for one specific hero and it's very charming

Ironthunder

I'm gonna be a little nip picky but guy that kamla likes does look like a teenage like my best friend when we were in our first year into high school and he has a full grown beard so seeing actors with a five o'clock shadow or with some body hair playing a teenager i believe but also everyone as adult or teenagers are different from each other

Dorran

I'm REALLY confused about Alicia's watch order of the shows... it is just kind of all over the place, and there are some really good ones that have just been blown past...

BigKez0

Ant i remember the hard light and the days it got buffed. So much cheese in the crucible it was a nightmare (I am recovering destiny player - many years sober).

Switchchris27

Regardless of the Quality it is important for a lot of the big movies coming up in the MCU.

Switchchris27

This is one of my fav of the marvels shows, in the top 4 for me. I love when Marvel takes the time to explore other sides of their universe, be it other cultures, or magic. So many of the heroes are just White Dudes, so its great that we are getting stories like Black Panther, Ms.Marvel, and Moon Knight as well. Yes they did change Ms.Marvel's powers a bit, but if they hadn't people would constantly just be calling her a less smart Mr.Fantastic, and they made her powers more connected to her culture, which is a improvement imo. The casting choice for Ms.Marvel is PERFECT. The character is a super fan, as has been seen in the show, but for almost all heroes, not just Captain Marvel. The Actress who is playing her is such a super fan of marvel that not only did she keep correcting the Directors and Writers on set to make sure they got everything as right as possible, but she has even worked as a writer for the Ms.Marvel comics now. No actor has understood their character as well as her, with Tom Holland being a close second.

EnderSlayer366

I always really liked this show, at least in the first half. But truly, the most evil thing anyone has ever done in a Marvel project is Kamala making her dad cry. Love that man. It's not often you see dads this good in fiction.

King'sBard

Superheroes are basically Anonymous Celebrity Firefighters

alex duskfall

Tracker is slacking like Aziz from Fifth element lmao TRACKER MOTION! lol

Moviejunkie

So, in the comics Kamala’s powers didn’t have to do with light. They were basically stretchy powers that allowed her to grow her body parts so she could get Large fists and feet while she fights. But I think they were still having trouble with stretching powers in live action so the powers were changed.

Faroth

So good to know she changed her order, since she was about to watch the marvels without watching our girl kamala being the nicer hero there is

Faroth

Is kinda sad they changed her powers si cenmr fantastic and khamala use their powers diferently and is an obvious difference too. Mr fantastic dont like figh so he wraps enemies with his torso. Khamala enlarge her arms and legs to move faster and have better reach to fight or rescue people without morphing too much since for her isnt like being rubber but rather changing her mass Also, dont forget about the other super adorable nicer girl, Moon Girl

Azaxul

I cannot relate to looking older. I was carded until I started getting grays in my beard. I hit 35 before my skin realized that we are in fact old and now I look my age.

Iron_claw

She hulk also sucks i hope she skips that one as well

Matt O'Doherty

The actor who plays kamran is only 4 years older than Kamala's actress.

ChaosSepher

I also suspect that they had Mr. Fantastic planned up and coming for things.

Kyron Leggett

Is she not gonna watch Falcon and the Winter Soldier? I was excited for it cuz of how she really enjoys The Falcon as a character

nervouspirate

My hot take on She-Hulk is that we dislike it for what it is, but the execution is perfectly serviceable. It’s just not the kind of show Marvel fans like.

SquaredSpekz

Captain Marvel was originally a Kree named Mar-Vell. The name becomes a moniker passed down.

Adam

It's gonna be watched when it's important.

Adam

incidentally she has both powersets in the comics now.

Adam

That's the issue with phase 4 and 5 too though, they WERE all over the place. There was no coherent chronological timeline.

Switchchris27

I like that her powers are more closely linked to her Culture now, makes it less random since she isn't a Inhuman anymore.

Daisy Azuras

If you wanna get forced in a driving, move to California, we have the shittiest mass transit and everybody drives, especially if you live out where I live in the desert you’re kind of forced to drive because nobody is going to come out to where you are to pick you up

Narluga

i love kamala khan in the comics. truly one of my favorite heroes, but i really don't like the change in powers and origin. like i get it, stretchy powers in live action are werid and the inhumans aren't really set up here but still sucks to see. although they nailed the family dynamic.

RedVit Productions

That's literally never been said by anyone outside the fans. And she's still an Inhumans in the comics, even with the X-gene

terrell thaddies

Same but I think it works for what they're doing now especially to what she is now Despite its flaws, it's still one of my favorite shows to watch

Devlin Draconis

The SHIELD adjacent show that didn’t have the Agents of SHIELD crew, I was hoping but not surprised it didn’t do well

DeathHawk31

one of the aunts is played by Anjali Bhimani, a regular guest in D&D podcasts like Critical Role, and I got excited when I recognized her.

DaichiOkami

Marvel having similar characters was literally never a problem. Most of marvel is same vs same. Ironman has war machine and iron heart. An his first villain was ironmonger. Antman had yellow jacket and wasp. Hulk has red hulk and abomination. Captain America has red guardian and bucky who're all super soldiers as wel as falcon now. Spiderman has Venom. Miles morales silk and like 30 others. Including his clone like ben reily and Caine. Spiderwoman. There being 2 strtchy people that don't even share that many similarities isn't a problem. Specially when Kamala's powers are more of Growing and making her fists or limbs big and mr fantastic changes shapes and stretches in any direction. They're different enough.

Plasma

I think thats the more important part, she still has Mr. Fantastical Powers but over all they remind me more of the lanterns.

MarakamiSG

For context, Kamala is supposed to be another Mr Fantastic but they gave her these powers instead.

Daisy Azuras

I actually like this series a lot. I know everybody else in the world hated on it, but I really enjoyed it. I thought that she was a really good actress. I think all the characters are very well written and there’s a couple little hiccups here and there but the overall experience of the series is positive

Porpoise Power

Mildly spoiler-ish comment, just a heads up. The one thing I really don't like about this series, is the villains have NO chill... like Kamala just needs some time to figure stuff out. and they despite being a few weeks or maybe a year or two away(at worst), after 80+ years, can't be patient enough to work with her to achieve their goals safely (or at least in a way that Kamala is comfortable with. I mean yeah, they're villains and they need to antagonize... but I think they needed something to justify the impatience. Maybe reveal there is no way Kamala would ever help them go home. Maybe something comes up in the second half of the season to justify things that I don't remember. But it seems like she asks for a little time and within 12 hours their assaulting her at the wedding.

DLCDallas

I agree, the series is pretty solid, my only gripe is that they changed her powers but since it was a show I assume the budget wasn't substantial enough to do stretchy stuff.

MMDXXX

Do we have to watch through the whole series?

Jobbe Smit

You're working from the assumption that while being a teenager your friend looked like a teenager. Reddit levels of pedantry but looking like something means looking within the average bound of a thing. Your friend might just look way more adult as a teenager like the guy from the show.

Ironthunder

Yeah I get it but it just Alicia judges the actors who are playing a teenager on there looks which I think it’s not fair to the actors and not all movies/tv shows cast actual teenagers but I’m trying not to sound predatory but it’s frustrating to me that she makes those comments that they aren’t a teenager they are playing as.

StorytellerDave

I love the family in this show so much, they are just fun and wholesome.

ChaosSepher

I think it was less about budget and more that they still planned on using Mr. Fantastic.

TrueZero2

Also Dimension 20's Ravening War season. My god she was good in that.

Loki (not that one)

I mean not really, all this really leads up to is The Marvels, and that's one of the worst mcu films. But I like this show and am glad alicia's seeing it

Dorran

Maybe not a chronological timeline, but I would think to go with the release timeline, you know? She's completely jumped Falcon and the Winter Soldier, What If...?, and Moon Knight. I kind of get skipping What If...? to a certain degree, but it is still a good series, in my opinion, especially season 2 (which doesn't make sense without season 1)

Dorran

I mean... no one is making you watch through any of it, even here XD

Chris Foley

anjali bhimani is in this show??!! if i knew that i would've watched it MUCH sooner

Dajkenoth

In the flashback at around 1:57:40, you can see the logo for the Ten Rings from the Shang Chi movie

PokéBoyBB

Look Alicia- I know you're "old" but there are some ADULT looking seniors nowadays in highschool. Like there is no middle ground. Highschoolers today either look like Middle Schoolers or late College Students.

StorytellerDave

Sometimes I feel like i am the only person who liked the Marvels.

Y0GE

I don't know if she's going to enjoy that show as much as you might think especially with how much they character assassinated falcon.

LuxLoser

So wild they changed Kamala's Mr. Fantastic/Elastic/Shapeshifting powers in favor of being crystal Green Lantern. And other than the platforms to walk on, she uses it no differently.

King'sBard

Idk when I was in high school a saw some kids look way older, tall, deep-ass voice, and full facial hair

holycobra

Timing for this was so unfortunate. Right after what felt like Marvel shouting "F all men" for a while, I waited a bit anyway, saw all the marketing was "We found a new minority, because minorities are important!"... Finally saw clip of the actual show, only learning powers were completely different and I didn't like her attitude and checked out. Seems like a cute show. Marketing did this so dirty.

Hampus

im gueesing it was easier/cheaper to make without having to worry about it looking bad

MrDudePerson

34:20 I love that Alicia's Malayali mannerisms start surfacing after watching Kamala's family for a bit, caught a few mm-mm-mm's slipping out

Chris Garcia Yanez

I'm pretty sure they changed it because during this time they REALLY wanted to be as far away from the Inhumans as possible and they couldn't use the Mutant excuse because they didnt have the rights yet

Chris Garcia Yanez

Facts about Ms. Marvel, No spoilers. In the original comics she is actually a polymorph similar to Mr. Fantastic but she can actually change size, color, and basically turn into whoever she wants Her original origin was her going to a party with all her friends that are in the show until The Terrigen Mist came by and started turning people into Inhumans. After waking up from her cacoon she decided to put on the persona of Ms. Marvel (Ms. Marvel was Captain Marvels og name before she changed it) by changing herself to look like her.

Nym

@StorytellerDave Don't worry mate you ain't the only one who like the Marvels I personally really enjoyed it.

Nym

Gods she was fucking amazing in the Ravening War!!

Artemis

Honestly the only thing I really dont like about this show is that they changed her powers to some strange green lantern style power instead of her actual powers from the comics

Cyber

some may have gripes about the show because it's not their target audience, but let's all agree that Kamala's actress herself does an AMAZING job in this serie. She and her family carried that show :)

Cyber

@chris, yes/no , because of the last line of this show, that defeats your theory, but i think it was for 2 main reasons: 1- easier for animation and efffects without it looking bad on a TV show budget. 2- Tie in with The Marvels, which requires her whole hard LIGHT thing

Cyber

budget + tie in with The Marvels, which was already in the books back then on the roadmap.

Lance Ivy

i know this show came out before Multiverse but watching it after makes me think between what they did to ms marvel and black bolt ...i think Kevin Feige just realy hates the Inhumans

Lance Ivy

she is stretchy like read richards but without the need to maintain mass ...sooo luffy she is luffy in the comics .......but idk here alien light magic tech something

Lance Ivy

marvelous..means having the traits of a marvel....a marvel is a wondrous thing

Lance Ivy

by 8th grade i had a full gotea there was no stopping me lol

PurportedGrey

This show has some problems with the fact they completely changed her power set, and it's writing (shocker with a Disney+ show) but aside from that it's pretty good especially with the creativity shown throughout the show, but man they also found a gem with Iman Vellani! In Episode 2, when Nakia lists Rome, Greece, Byzantium, and Persia in history class and the first 2 as oppressors, it made me cringe so hard as a history nerd. This isn’t a grifter-style nitpick, but it’s just not historically accurate. Rome? Absolutely, they’re the textbook example of an oppressive empire. Byzantium? That was Eastern Rome, carrying on the same imperial legacy after The West collapsed. Persia? Was the biggest oppressor in its heyday especially in their domination of regions like Mesopotamia and their wars with Greece. But Greece? That’s a stretch. For most of its history, Greece was fractured city-states, often conquered or dominated by others (including Persia and Rome, post Alexander), until Alexander briefly united them. His empire was so short-lived it’s hard to call it an enduring oppressor compared to Rome and Persia. This feels like an oversimplification to fit a modern narrative about the past. It was just an offhanded comment, but I feel this type of rewritting of history leads to so much of todays discourse and lets grifters drive a wedge over stuff that is unbelivably true when it comes to unique stories surrounding marginalized groups. That said, Nakia makes a great point that American curriculum often ignore Middle Eastern history, despite its enormous contributions to math, science, and culture.

CrimsonWarrior55

I love this show but it's clearly two seasons forced into one and the Clandestine suffer IMMENSELY for it. Frankly, the should have just stuck to the Damage Control plot line and kept the racist bitch for the main antagonist.

Prise par J.A.Z.

The Hellenistic states definitely did oppressing, as well. They had colonies throughout the Mediterranean and Black Seas and did the slave trade, too.

PurportedGrey

Oh 100%, but States is the key word. I wasn't trying to say they didn't have slaves or weren't oppressive (looking at you Sparta), but you can't generalize a region like Greece who has a long long history, and in it's most influential period the region was broken up into loads of different states with their own cultures and societal norms, and not a unified country like the other ones she named.

CarcosanTimeshare

I didn't know Alicia reacted to this. I didn't see it in Collections, so I almost missed it! This was one I've really been looking forward to since Alicia is actually knowledgeable about the culture involved.
