I preferred nonfiction books as a kid, but my teachers wanted me to get more into fiction.

Here comes a thought (the song and episode) has never failed to me cry

Raccoons don't have heat vision, but platypuses have special sensors on their bills that allow them to sense static electricity from a distance, allowing them to "see" in absence of light and sound. If you're looking for an interesting non-fiction book for your niece, I grew up with a book called "700 facts about the world", but that was in German, so I'd recommend "The Big Book of Useless Knowledge" by Neon Squid.

I remember at the tail end of 2024 I was alone, and I had hit rock bottom. I had nothing but bad thoughts for a while but that song made me cry every time telling me exactly what I needed. Steven Universe = free therapy. It's been a while since I watched the episode. Thank you for doing what you do. You're the greatest also sorry for the trauma dump

Darc Hart94

Garnets song in this episode can hit hard. Normally I don't like the singer cause she sings very....monotonously, but it works for this song

Mechamage

Here Comes a Thought was important for young me just getting off my first deployment. Learned to play it too. Lots of crying. The lessons in this show are great for managing mental health.

Kawaii Edgelord

Thinking that Alicia got non-fiction and fiction confused only to realize 10 minutes later i was the one to mix them up.

Grim

Here comes a thought is the song I listen to whenever I feel extremely overwhelmed or need to emotionally reset. It's calming, the message is perfect, and best of all, IT SOUNDS BEAUTIFUL

cyberspacecat

Before I get too far in and forget, I wholly agree on kids learning more from books and traditional research and not using iPads, summary articles and .. ugh .. ai.. Kids these days (ik, I sound old) barely know how to read, write or do math, it's all automated and scrambled so nothing sticks in their minds, and they're going into life missing essential skills - any parent that cares need to bring those valuable skills forward so we don't continue to erode our knowledge. They've had trial programs over here in Norway where kids forego iPads in favour of books and writing and it's been a big success, so I'm all for going back.

Da-Jacku

Best song in the show

cyberspacecat

Oh my lord that Garnet song was gorgeous (and that ending was heartbreaking..)

Mindful Education is legitimately my favorite episode in the whole show and Here Comes a Thought is my favorite song. I listen to it whenever i feel stressed

Nick

man forgot this song was so early into season 4... such a good song

Reaper Scythe

Mindful Education and the song Here Comes A Thought DESTROYED me when I first watched it. I was fine until the lyrics repeated "It's okay" because at the time I was very not okay and I was ignoring it. The whole thing about needing to let yourself think about it even though it feels bad stuck with me ever since. I have that song in my playlist now and whenever it comes on I debate if I need to have a little cry today or if I'm actually okay. I don't know if it's my favourite episode but it's definitely the one I feel the most personally connected to.

thedangmaster

Ending on "I'm here" is amazing.. The Steven Traumaverse has begun

Grim

I can't wait till Alicia gets to future, its gonna be very...... fun.......

Slush

I absolutely love garnets song it was just so beautiful I love listening to it over and over again.

Gamer Kane

Mindful education is the best episode of the show without question, not my favourite but undeniably the best in every aspect from visuals to writing to sound.

Aliulo

The thing about Homer: He was probably blind, so him getting the credit for writing down the Epics is funny, because it was probably some other dork that actually wrote down what he was saying.

Alex Cole

Episode 4 and that song bring me to tears every time. Oof.

Ebofa

Stars I adore that song. Can´t add much others haven´t already said, but it just really hits.

DRedd

Regarding Ruby and Sapphire in Mindful Education: This shows the obvious on how Ruby tends to go off on her problems as soon as a problem arises in a way that may be unhelpful, but it also shows that she's the one who deals with her feelings in the present. Sapphire, on the other hand, won't let a single provocation get to her, but she ends up allowing things to build up more and more until it's too much for her to deal with.

AnotherWeeb

I'm waiting for the movie. I can't even imagine how she's going to react to future

Okarun

she already felt threatened by the way her mother always make her study like crazy, and feeling she's not able to help steven hard enough she undergoes what we in mixed martial arts called, the reflex response when we overdo our training and boost the muscle memory to it's fullest until even the smalest act activates on it's own by even a mere push, poor connie.

Okarun

in simple words, we are on high alert

sebas hernandez

The autor always gets the credit. The writer may be placed on the book as well but whoever thought of it and verbalize it (however they did it) is always the real autor.

Heartless

Mindful education is my favorite ep i loved to lision to the song whenever i feel stressed out it helps me alot

Sam Marsh

I can’t help but think that Stevonnie is what Catra could have been if she had actually processed her emotions (seeing as how they’re are both voiced by the same actress). But in all seriousness, whenever I start to feel overwhelmed by life, I try to focus on the beautiful message of “Here Comes A Thought” to remind myself that my feelings are valid and that everything will be okay, in time.

Grim

I get the feeling future is gonna have her sobbing the whole time

Leticia

I love when Alicia speedruns her analysis in the end and everything is spot on, it's so satisfying and funny at the same time lol

Carlos

God, Mindful Education is such a fantastic episode

Jimmy Recinos

5:10 i mean i watched the roach king’s video of kids being dumber and yea technology can help and break kids creativity and learning. I mean i dont have kids but these are our future and my niece and nephews and my friends kids. Like i understand to give them creen time bc they need a break as parents but im kinda strict and old fashioned for a 27 year ild and i like toys and puzzles compare to video games (as i play hours on my days off) but bonding doesnt have to be video games and technology 😂😂 (also we know you want to be a mom we support you can cant wait!)

Yagi di Hoshi

i cant believe i let myself not watch mindful education for all this time, although, i did remember the song & the haku/chihiro reference. wow, first the amethyst & steven loser-fight episode, now this. 2 for 2 bangers that i missed/skipped by accident so far

Giddo

Yea the "no child left behind" policy in schools is just an excuse to get kids to pass even if they shouldn't be passing. That way the school will get more funding, despite not actually teaching the kids properly. It's really ruining the public school system

Hyhyd

To this day, Here Comes A Thought is such a beautiful and powerful song. I'm not that good at these analysis-like comments, I just really enjoy hearing it. The animation and tone blend together so wonderfully and in that moment, you can feel how Stevonnie does as they realize it's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay (sorry, I had to)... then we get the Steven trauma... that's gonna take more than a song to fix.

Aiko

5: 46 Wow, that made me rethink about my parents, they did give me a phone when i was really young, but it was only because i was always in the woods and they wanted to know where i was or if i needed help, if i was not in the woods i was reading the books my dad brought me (They were all pictureless and to this day i don't read many things with pictures, i like imagining the characters myself) or i was drawing, they did let me watch anime when i was like 6-8 years old, but i always falled asleep lol

scatman's world

Mindful Education is such a peak episode and the message is so good holy

Adam

being a Stenographer doesn't make you the author.

Morningstar System

mindful education has legit helped me so much just in my own head.

TurdManJones

When I first watched Mindful Education, I was a lad of 16 and it saved me so much heartache. This show taught me so much emotionally as I was growing and without a doubt had a big impact on me being a well adjusted adult today. And I think a lot of people, especially adults need to watch this show. My mom had a lot of problematic experiences, and has a lot baggage about my dad who passed away. We both loved him, and he loved me, but I guess they had a lot of problems that I was oblivious to as a child. Neither of them talked about it, they didn't want to confront these feelings and hid away from them and in the end the lovely couple from their stories of youth split up because of it. And now all those repressed feelings come back to haunt my mom in the form of trauma induced fibromyalgia. It is only recently that we got to talk about this, after our usual bickering about small things cascaded and finally exploded. I can tell, it was difficult for her to talk about this but she finally saw that avoiding these problems are the reason she is in this state. She is finally seeing a psychologist and it already, physically, helped a ton. Even our daily interactions improved greatly. Please if you have an adult in your life that you think is like this, help them, for they don't even know they need such help.

BlastYoBoots

I've shown that song Here Comes A Thought to my psychologist before and she'll potentially show it to younger people she does therapy with, it's so grounding.

SweetCandle

There are a hundred small things that can ruin your day. If you become obsessed with one, there are ninety nine things that definitely will.

Daisy Azuras

This episode is one of my favorite songs out of the soundtrack. I used to listen to it a lot, especially when I was going through my divorce. It helped me Center myself this episode. Also exposes us to the reality that Steven is a ball of trauma, and that trauma stays with him forever and everything that he goes through keeps adding to that trauma. It’s really a mirror to everything that pretty much everybody goes through when they’re growing up even if you don’t think about it at the time, you’re suffering through trauma after trauma after trauma, and if you never deal with it eventually it just comes crashing down on you

jacob quintero welch

This is my favorite episode of this show Here comes a Thought is so beautiful.

Vivica the witch

I know multiple people who cried the first time they heard this song

Cybers Link

The first time I heard "Here comes a thought" will forever be a core memory. I have never cried so hard watching a show, and I watched OP. It touched something I dont even think I fully understood at the time. Teenage years are full of anxiety but this song made things a professional therapist could have done. I still sing it when I make a stupid little mistake that I beat myself for making. FLEXIBILITY, LOVE AND TRUST

Blind Wail

I STILL cry anytime I watch the episode. SU is my comfort show, but damn it makes me feel so much

Isaac Espinal

So true about people the wrote it down are the ones who got credit. Its why the Romans are credited so much. As much as they do annoyingly uphold the “european supremacy” bs, they did write down basically everything they did and we know a lot about them even when 90% of what they wrote was destroyed. We really wished the mayans wrote down more to learn about the new world civilization.

Julio Castillo

Fun Fact: the episode "Mindful Education" had Takafumi Hori as a Guest Animator, Hori being one of the most reknown animators from Studio Trigger... as he worked on both Kill La Kill and Little Witch Academia. That is why the animation for Stevonnie's fight sequences and the hallucinations scenes with the butterflies were so fluid.

subete_wa

While I completely agree with the sentiment that we're doing a lot of things wrong in raising the current generation, I also believe that you have to be careful with that kind of talk since children hear it, and it can create learned helplessness in adulthood. As someone from Gen Z, one of the biggest problems I see with peers as they come into adulthood is learned helplessness. They point to problems caused by the way they were raised and say "I was raised wrong;" "It's too late to change;" etc. And while those problems were indeed caused by the way they were raised and it is indeed much harder to change yourself during adulthood than it is during childhood, you have to believe you can be better. But for a lot of them, they've spent they're adolescent years being told everything that was wrong with the way they were raised and started blaming that rather than trying to fix themselves. Especially with how keenly aware my generation is of things like algorithms and the way they hijack your brain. People acknowledge that, but don't try to fix it and just say it's too late. From what I understand, that type of learned helplessness seems to also exist in quite a few milennials, and we all know how much the way they were raised was dogged on. Children hear and understand a lot more than we think they do. So when they grow up hearing how their generation is being "ruined," once they're old enough to truly understand, they'll think of themselves as "ruined."

MatthiasTheWanderer

Something I love about Here Comes a Thought is how the little details are so true to the characters. Ruby gets focused on one thing she can't let go of, and lets it pull her away and drown out everything else, while Sapphire gets overwhelmed by everything she's trying to keep track of and freezes when it becomes too much. I love this song, honestly, it's one of my absolute favorites. When I'm having a really, REALLY bad day at work, and I feel like I'm hitting my breaking point, I'll sing it to myself and it's SO helpful in rebalancing my emotions and letting me reassert control. And, of course, as mentioned by others, Hori Takafumi as a guest animator absolutely killed it, it's one of the best animated episodes in the show.

Rose and Elly

I was going to say basically the same thing - Ruby's hyperfocus vs Sapphire being overwhelmed. This song does an incredible job of visualizing these feelings which are so common to many of us.

ItzNack

Wait Alicia wheres your bismuth episode reaction? I wasn't even aware you knew who they were I missed that episode

Alp

god i adore this episode. back when it released i loved it, but now i really APPRECIATE it. after getting into mindfulness and meditation and stuff, this ep just hits harder. everything Garnet says is textbook mindfulness/vipassana stuff. i still come back to this song after ten years cause it's such a perfect encapsulation of it all.

thevoidbender

The fact that this cute little show has songs just casually sung by the likes of Estelle (Garnet) and AJ from Aly&AJ (Stevonie) is so wild to me I love it.
