The dad is not a bad guy even slightly, let alone dead beat. The part not said directly, is that they represent a previous generation where you just paired up, had kids, and got on with it. He is as "trapped" as she is, in whatever stable job he could get fast regardless of what he wanted to do. He is supposed to give a bit of comic relief, but you arent supposed to go as far as thinking he is anything other than a good, loyal, supportive dad and family member, with both of them going through the motions of what their generation expected. In a show where Billies dad exists, and what we know can exist as parents, calling him a dead beat and a piece of shit (Alicia said that in a previous episode) is baffling. Not perfect, a bit silly at times, but there and clearly loved.

I knew you'd be back to this :D I just figured it was all the moving, now we know to blame Key for trying to be a responsible and productive member of society :)

2026-10-07 05:00 31:37 Respectfully, Alicia, that IS how it works when you go to the County Recorder's office. Civilians can pay a small fee to receive a copy of specific documents on record. The only time you are not supposed to draw on a purchased record is when it has been sealed for official purposes. I say this warmly: welcome to the United States, Alicia. If you are feeling nosy, without having any personal connection to the subject matter, there are SO many records you can obtain an uncensored copy of.

Yeah, he reminds me a lot of my dad who was born in the 50s. He provided for the household and attended events but mom was the one who raised us. Dad was a wallet with a face.

Goad_VA

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but how exactly was Cindy saying "It's a Summer job, your life is hardly over." being some Oliver Twist and sob story thing? Yeah, she's not thinking of the income his family probably really needs (It was stated that Joyce is preparing to move, so the job wouldn't sit anyway) but she wasn't doing anything about that. Until Jonathan talked about Nancy's family being a bubble for her, all the subject matter was him being fired. "I told you to stop, now I'm screwed." is all Jonathan said. "You attacked him and his background first." as Alicia said. Like...no she didn't? All she said in this point was that it was a Summer job (still going to school after Summer) and that losing it doesn't mean his life is over.

Reminds me of Fast Five when they got blueprints to a prison. It's straight just a thing you can do.
