Caison

huge day for representing and discussing topics such as these horrible day for Rose/Pink defenders...

Justin Scott

God I'm glad your media literate Alica, so many reactors don't actually get a lot of the themes and tones of the later half of SU/ Movie/ Future, and vastly over correct or over hate Rose/Pink, or se it all as malicious ret cons- yet you properly understand and enjoy how they are fleshing out and going 'oh shit she was an abuser, maybe not a intentional one but still, she was doing a lot of the same stuff as the other diamonds' and for that I will always keep watching your reactions; we love a Media Literate Tuber... even if you are awful with names in the funniest way~

Bunni

I mean, should we be surprised that Pink physically hurt another gem? Look at the other diamonds. They have shattered and deformed so many gems during the centuries they have been around, the difference is we are going to be seeing their growth while we didn’t see Pinks but what we do know that once our Pearl joined with Pink she stopped her violent tendencies (as far as we know) she was still a manipulative piece of shit but she changed and grew as well. Either way all the diamonds suck 🤣

KYHAHN

Volleyballs always bounce back to the person who hit them

Kamen2D

You can see the exact moment when Alice realized what the whole episode was about

Julian Arreola

I would like to remind people that we are watching events in reverse for her character

Baindrik Morgren

For those that remember, our first display of Pinks destructive powers was when White forced Steven into his two halves. The Human half with all of its emotions and none of its physical strength and the Gem half that used to be Pink and lacked any emotion. Still think its screaming "She's gone" is one of the most impactful scenes in the entire show.

Liliwyn

Giiiiiiiiirl it is just WAY too satisfying to see so much media literacy with these reactions. It's always a treat for anyone to react to the show, but to see someone *really* dig down into the greater character contexts and the various implications therein is truly something special. ^^

Fei Ashtear

It took 8000 years for Pink to go from selfish, childish tantrum thrower to someone that would give up their life to have a child with the man she loved.

M K7001

I see people say this all the time and I don't think it comes across the way you guys want it to. I assume the point is to give "current" Rose more grace but I think the value of showing her progression in reverse as you say is that we see just because she was better recently doesn't mean all the awful things she did went away. Rose is a character that I would say if she found a life after everything where she's happy and she makes the ones around her happy that's nice but all the people she hurt and all the harm she caused is just as relevant. Nobody has to forgive her, and if they don't forgive her I don't think that's a reason to pity her either. It's not to say people can't change or grow but they made their bed and that will and should affect their lives forever. So when people try to remind others we saw her story backwards I just have to say was she really that great toward the end either? She never told them about Bismuth. She didn't tell any of them that she was a diamond while commanding Pearl to hide it as well. She left absolutely no information for Steven who would inevitably have to deal with everything she left behind (and didn't tell any of the crystal gems so they couldn't even warn him). She never dealt with any of the trauma she caused her "old" friends. She could have freed Spinel for instance (even if she just sent pearl or something). And I'm sure there's other problems that arose when she was still around as Rose Quartz. I don't think Rose is like pure evil or something but I do think she was a bad person who bad stuff happened to which I assume is a major cause of why she was the way she was and I personally wouldn't have forgiven 90% of the things she did regardless. If anything I'm amongst many who wish we got the longer series to flesh out the diamonds more because they mostly got off the hook for how awful they really were too.

Patrick Waldeck

This episode in particular is a HUGE love letter to Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Ja’Maine Lee

Yeah, it's the whole reason I started watching her Patreon before finishing a single YouTube video

Zexoid

You know Homeworld as a whole was supposed to be a huge arc to flesh out the Diamonds as characters and the planet as a whole if it wasn't for Cartoon Network canceling the series due to a wedding. I think it's cool to think of what could have been to give us more insight in how the Diamonds treated Pink as lesser. Since they only showed us a little bit of it from when Steven saw the dreams of Blue putting Pink in solitary confinement in that tower.

Sam Marsh

I love the detail at the end, where after the pearls unfuse, you never actually get a good look at Volleyball’s damaged eye. The audience are left in the dark as to whether her recent breakthrough healed her or not, because at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. Even if the physical damage still remains, she now possesses the clarity and self-belief to start her journey of recovery from the trauma of her abuse. Also, considering how much they have in common, I hope Pearl and Volleyball can develop a meaningful friendship.

Cybers Link

What we can get from this episode is that Pink was trying to be better and for all we know, she always tried to be a better person and never stopped. Pearl not knowing the violent outburst that traumatized Volleyball is proof of that and how her powers turn from destructive to healing and protective too. But of course, nobody is perfect and getting better doesn't automatically erase all the bad things you did in the past. It is really sad that despite Rose trying to be a good person, she left behind so much baggage on to people and that is what people will remember most of, not the Pink that tried to do her best but the "tyrant" that left destruction wherever she went. The problem with her is that she was too powerful. Not only in the physical sense but as someone with higher authority. Her mistakes and her actions involved a lot of people and there was nothing she could do about it. Not even as Rose Quartz, leader of the Crystal Gems could escape from that curse. She couldn't let her emotions burst out or she could hurt someone innocent by accident. She had to be careful in what she was saying or her words could be taken too literally(Garnet wasn't allowed to vocalise any question and Pearl wasn't allowed to talk to Steven about Pinks "shattering"). Even her "death" caused unintentional damage to a lot of people. None of that was intentional.

Vivica the witch

Reminder that we are experianceing roses character arc in reverse order. And that can make her feel worse.

Paeve

Do they though? Because for me they usually just bounce and roll away

AnotherWeeb

in my experience they just kinda go in a straight line in the direction you hit them. Unless there's a hill

AnotherWeeb

regarding making excuses for the person hurting you... to paraphrase what a wise peridot once said, "It doesn't matter if they know what they're doing. They're still doing it"

AnotherWeeb

Yes, seeing the negative aspects/actions of a character can make them feel worse. That's not order related

Periwinkle Emily

Side note I absolutely love the outro song for Steven Universe Future

Faroth

Most cute scene and stuff at the end of the pearls, we arent shown her left side, we dont know if she healed, but we know she started to heal

thedangmaster

Gems breaking their form over sorrow isn't uncommon either. Spinel broke her form over her grief aswell. I remember Rebecca Sugar saying something like that turmoil can puff a gem and have them reform like that

PokéBoyBB

I'm sorry I can't consider bubbling Bismuth as one of the "Rose was in the wrong" moves. Bismuth wanted to KILL people. The Crystal Gems NEVER shattered their Homeworld enemies. Bismuth however was all for that with the Breaking Point, it wasn't JUST meant for Diamonds, it was meant for anyone in the rebellion's way. Bismuth only got bubbled after Rose tried to get them to see reason and talking didn't work.

Egregore

Kinda messed up that they nicknamed the abuse victim after a toy that gets hit around

scatman's world

Volleyball my goat I love her, such a good episode

Darc Hart94

While i dislike how much the show and the fans super hate pink/rose. I actually like all the reverse character development that shows us she used to be irresponsible and imperfect, hurting others by accident before she came to earth. Still better than the other 3 diamonds who would hurt or even shatter gems on purpose just for being inconvenienced

Darc Hart94

I do find it funny that pink pearl/volleyball is just being genuine and nice while pearl is being all weirdly jealous for someone who's "moved on"

K!ngonion

It’s always interesting seeing as Steven’s mental health unravels and he taps into more negative emotions, he begins to discover more and more of Pink’s older Diamond powers.

Rose and Elly

I forgot that this Pearl fusion looks like Utena Tenjou (from Revolutionary Girl Utena, an anime that helped to inspire the creators of Steven Universe and which is often referenced in Pearl's fighting style).

Stephen

Hands down one of my favorite episodes from both series.

Stephen

Agreed. Pink Diamond wasn't a monster or a saint. She was a deeply flawed individual who was fascinated with life. She always focused on issues right in front of her and didn't think about the side effects or consequences they might cause. It's funny, Steven is kind of the opposite. He focused on the end results, the best outcome and how to fix everything and help everyone, but at the cost of not thinking through all steps prior to that end result.

Chris White

Cannot Wait for episode 16!!!

Pluto

She’s not an abuser. Pink was an abused child who accidentally hurt someone once and then was so terrified of ever hurting someone again that she didn’t use her powers to fight even in the middle of a war.

Craig Rangoon

"And remember— Volleyball isn't a contact sport!"

Matrim

It’s important to remember that you’re seeing Rose’s character development in reverse. Pink was a real piece of shit, and even when she was Rose she still had the vices of her virtues, but she was also a victim and she did change and she did grow. That doesn’t excuse anything she did before, but I think people overlook the growth she had because you get to see so much more of her previous life as time goes on.

Mike

I'd agree if the impact wasn't that people straight up hate Pink/Rose now. Yes, she WAS a shifty person. She was actively growing through the years. All they did with the reverse character development was sour peoples' perceptions of her progress as a person, forever painting her in a bad light.

Darc Hart94

I mean I agree with you. I love the reverse character development where we see who she used to be. I just hate how the show and fandom pretends that rose was just bad and never changed

Zeke077

The problem I have with people reacting to old Pink Diamond's character is that for most people the "sins" of Rose and Pink end up being very recent. We get info on events thousands of years old and ignore the thousand that PInk spent making an effort to change. Frankly the only two horrible things she did was Bismuth and Spinel but the show makes an effort to show change is possible but everybody just treats Rose like she was Pink Diamond from 8000 years ago and ignore how she has been Rose for a very long time.

Kate Barry

I feel like a lot of people don't consider this. Yes she was probably over 1000 years old by the time this happened but from what we can see, among gems she's still very young. She was a child when she would throw these tantrums. So it really falls on the parents to fix this but we've seen how the other diamonds are. In fact, I wonder if maybe her powers lashing out like that might have been her childish way to get attention. She stopped when she realized she hurt someone innocent in the process while her "mom" White just covered the whole thing up.

Oliver Norcom

Does anyone know if she’s taking a break from the series? Sorry I don’t know if there’s a schedule to look at and I’m just really excited to see her reaction to the rest of it.

Code{Nov4}

I love that even though we are finding out pink was worse then we thought it not out of no where. Like there was that scene where after being told no she stalked out of the room and punched that mirror shattering it. Yes this is another step further, but it makes since and makes what happened in the movie track even more! this seasons revel of pinks more destructive powers make perfect since as all the other diamonds had them to and it tracks with the og finally. plus this doesn't feel like a character assassination rather confirmation that she was just as flawed as the other diamonds (just in her own way) which makes since and fit with the shows theme that anyone can improve.

Valewall

9:30 Yeah... I remember a friend came over once and I couldn't find a plate to get us snacks since they were all smashed. Mam and stepdad had both left after another fight so I was home alone with my friend and I remember how confused he was when I tried explaining that plates, cups and dishes get broken a lot.

Dotum

She just reacts to whatever when she feels like it, but she’s been pretty consistent with SU the whole time so I doubt it’ll be a long wait for the rest of the series.

Bunni

👉🏻👈🏻 Will new reactions be coming soon?

MatthiasTheWanderer

The point, I think, is that a lot of fans fall victim to recency bias. It's very easy to give more weight to her worst actions, like hurting Volleyball or abandoning Spinel, because they're some of the last reveals, they're what feels the most fresh, so the reason this gets pointed out so often is that a lot of people do demonstrably forget to consider it.

MatthiasTheWanderer

Something I want to point out is that Rose was IN THE MIDDLE of a redemption arc, one that never reached it's conclusion. She was still maturing and learning when she met Greg, just look at how hard he had to work to get her to take him seriously. She died before being able to address the vast majority of her mistakes, before realizing that many of those mistakes were even wrong. I'd put money on the fact that she didn't even consider that leaving Spinel in the garden would be bad for her or hurt her, because that was one of the earliest points in her life we ever see, and she'd been raised to see other gems as accessories or part of the scenery, just look at Blue's comb, or the walls we saw whispering to each other on homeworld.

Hyhyd

Blue's the best tho cuz she's the hottest

Bunni

It’s almost Aug, will you be posting the remaining episodes soon? 🥺👉🏻👈🏻

Jeff

I love that they never showed us Volleyball's face at the end, as to see whether she was "fixed" or not. It's up to her to figure that out, and maybe she'll always wear that trauma, but now she knows how to deal with it and that's it's no longer something in need of "fixing".
