Every time CM breaks from its typical structure the episode is so damn good, and what's more important to that is that they don't overdo it. They mix in these sorts of episodes just often enough to keep it from feeling overdone.

Yeah I knew this episode would get to Alicia. It's such a great episode but so so heart breaking. And I understand what Ant is saying about his kid never leaving his, BUT there is a reason this episode is called Seven Seconds (Seven seconds in this context refers to the critical window of time it takes for a child to be snatched or disappear from sight) .....Not to mention THAT episode in season 5. If you know you know. The worst part of this episode is that the father and uncle are twins(played by twins too). That means Katie was molested by someone who has her father's face. That's something the family is going have to deal with too. Also the issue with Jeremy, because I don't think the Katie's parents would be able to take him after all this, or it would be hard for them. The series never says what happens to him, and it makes me sad.

Oh yeah, dealing with that kind of trauma every time you look at your dad is going to be hard. Tough on girl, but dear god I also feel bad for the dad. Finding out your own brother did this to your baby girl and now that girl sees that monster when she looks at you.

Every single other reaction to this episode that I have found, the reactor just insults that poor woman. Calling her an idiot because she wasn't capable of being calm enough to answer their questions.

People use the word "logic" like a bludgeon for these shows. "That person isn't acting logical they must have "done it"". The reality is a mother in this situation it is logical for them to act illogically. In fact from the very first scene with the father and mother Alicia was sus of the father because he was "too held together" as someone who has worked in search and rescue I've seen that reaction. That is pure compartmentalisation not guilt. You got to hold it together because that is expected of you...as the episode goes on he breaks down. You compartmentalise it, that doesn't mean you get over it, it means now is not the time you'll deal with it later (and if you don't it'll hit you twice as hard). They were just spit-balling like they do in these reactions and that's great but it goes to show the danger. A lot of people when they talk about how right/wrong logical/illogical etc. someone is, the reality is they didn't work from behaviour to explanation they worked from bias to explanation. They decide if the person is guilty (or not guilty) and find evidence to support that bias, sprinkle in some who done it TV, and spice it up with engagement is views so right opinion or wrong opinion I get more views if I just have an opinion. Suddenly its not surprising a lot of reactors just throw their terrible first impression out there. Especially because tbf the show is playing with the Red Herring Trope to on purposely misdirect you.

True and I appreciate your insight! It just always threw me for a loop at how cold people acted towards the mom in those videos. Like, her kid was kidnapped probably and there was a another kid her age killed a week ago. Lots of people would be hysterical! It was moreso the lack of empathy that always stunned me.

Hearing Alicia and Ant talk about 'proper' strict family safety protocols gives me serious culture shock. I can't imagine living with that much rigid structure or constantly feeling like I'm walking on eggshells around my own people here in Sweden.
