I think there could be an extra layer to ....Sokka's?, sexism. He was essentially the only young man in a village of children and elderly women his whole life, other than his sister. It's no excuse for his behavior. I do think that it does add a degree more nuance to his, frankly, very quick change of opion bout the "boy/girl" thing. Also this came out in the early 2000s when there was a HARD pink aisle and blue aisle separation in toy sections at stores, if you catch my drift.

Love seeing you start the tradition of memorizing the intro ♥️ LMAO the episode suki beats the misogyny outta him 🤣 Man’s that frothed at the mouth and passed out is iconic ‘Learn you fucken peasant’ iconic Alicia Love your standards not ever wavering with Sokka bad behavior not being fixed with acknowledging suki and saying sorry ♥️

I know I’m crazy late to this reaction but since you’re long done this series, I’m absolutely baffled that you predicted blood bending WAY before it got introduced. That’s like omniscient level IQ. 😂😂🤯

Going back and seeing alicia fall in love with the greatest show ever made has got to be a highlight of my day.

The Dragon’s Lair

I know this series is long over so you've probably seen Sokka's character arc. It is just important to remember (especially for anyone new to the series as well), that this is the first season and one of the first episodes. Sokka is at the beginning of his growth. He is a teenage boy who lost his mother at a young age, whose father and all the other men had gone off to war, leaving Sokka alone with the elderly, the young and the only person who was even close to fighting age left to look after everyone. There were no men to learn from, no one to gain training from. Everything about him is self-taught, taking on responsibility he's not ready for with an attitude that he's got to be the man and the girls have to know their place, because in his small village he WAS the man, and the only one, and everyone else were either too old or too young to fill the role he had to step into. He's going to be humbled. A lot. He needs to learn his lesson. Sukki is a well-trained warrior and she puts him in his place. He is not very well trained but when he sees her skill and ability he is willing to learn, and he does impress Sukki with how willing he is to humble himself but also to stand and fight. She is a warrior, but she is also a girl and is not afraid of being feminine while also not being afraid to use strength and force as needed. The duality can exist and Sukki does a good job being one of the first cases of Sakka getting humbled and learning his lesson. Sakka is willing to learn from people he initially looked down upon because he recognizes their skill and the fact that they are better than him. His pride is not so great that he can't accept an outcome his sexist mind couldn't comprehend. He is teachable, willing to learn from his mistakes, and that is what makes Sukki realize there is more to him than his being a pigheaded sexist. And once she sees past that she is able to help him get past it.

I'd say foaming mouth guy got paid pretty well. You might recognize the name Bryan Konietzko.

The foam guy, is part of a meme. Sokka dodged one attack against Zuko...he improved.

Hahaha, gonna learn real quick, Sokka’s arc is NOTHING BUT humble pie’s. Also, the idea that you will be held in better regard for respecting your peers and expressing genuine willingness to change and spent effort doing better is and will always be a good lesson to teach children. Also, not that they should expect a reward, but that it’s good to reward good behavior, rather than simply punishing bad behavior. We’re free to interpret this episode however our experiences will allow so I hope you won’t take this as criticism, I just found it unfortunate that you got such a bad-faith reading out of it. (Also that you seemed to have different favor for Aang learning similar lessons at a similar pace). Maybe things are a bit fast paced, but it’s not like she opened her legs for him or like they’re already committed to something. She met him, and in the end he impressed her, not just with his quickness to learn but also quickness to be taught. AND he was pretty manly, being super willing to be a part of every battle and contribute in the best way he feels he’s capable of doing it. AND the kiss itself seemed to me like it was just one of the ways she felt she could express her femininity to a guy she wanted to understand that it’s not mutually exclusive from her combat capabilities. It didn’t feel like a “reward” per se, it just felt like her intentions and impressions. That’s what I got from it. It might also be worth mentioning this shows main demographic was most likely majority young boys who would need a basic understanding that “respect people and your results will be way better and might even be something you were too stubborn to know you wanted”. But I’m a grown ass man, so maybe I’m the one over-reading.
