I would say Sokka would be 100% justified in knocking the crap out of the chief's son in almost any other situation. But at that exact moment with an enemy at the gates who intend on committing an outright genocide on your people? Maybe wait until that's over, and if you both survive, then beat the everliving crap out of him. Or, maybe facing an actual life-threatening experience for once in his life will humble the little shit. Sokka has been almost murdered by professional soldiers on multiple occasions by this point. Same reason Kitara impressed Paku and mopped the floor with all of his other students in, what appeared to be, rather rapid succession.
