Most teachers are pos though. You can't just justify being a bad teacher just because they don't get paid enough.... I only had a handful of teachers that were actually decent human beings. I been to 3 different high schools until I went to one who actually had good teachers and principal.

Davido

Jotaro: Annoying Bitch Alicia: Wow cant believe he said that what a terrible guy Jotaro: You look pale are you okay Alicia: Your words dont mean anything its your actions that matter I cant be the only one confused by this convenient logic? Also weird how you just jumped to defend the teachers with no knowledge of what they did. Seems like you judged him off what he said to his mom and your now viewing everything he does in a bad light. No hate though just wanted to point that out.

Small commentary on the teachers: yes, teachers are usually wonderful. But Japan had (and kinda still has) a huge bullying problem. Teachers in Japan largely ignore or even participate in bullying because they think it, like, helps socialize the students or something? And Jotaro, being half-white, was likely targeted by bullies. (In Japan, being non-Japanese is discriminated against like how being non-white is discriminated against in America. There's even a kind of slur word for people who are only half-Japanese). I know you watched this a while ago, but I just wanted to add that tid-bit of problematic culture in Japan, with how normalized bullying is in schools. Araki was kind of intending to show Jotaro as being almost like a vigilante? He was probably trying to imply that that particular teacher bullied students, but the implication doesn't transfer super well to western audiences.

I think people conflate being good and nice, as well as being a dick and being bad. My best friend said it best in the context of D&D "I'm Lawful Good not Lawful Nice."

Suny

I'm glad you both are honest with your opinions regardless of how fans may respond. Absolutely love this reaction.

Dude559

Nah i HATED Jotaro. And honestly he really doesn't redeem himself. He just kinda moves on and becomes better as it goes on but at no point does he even apologize

Fei Ashtear

It's pretty funny seeing alicia crash out over a stereotypical Japanese punk character. I wonder how she'd feel about the mc of yuyu hakusho. Jotaro is the dickiest one I've seen in a long time though. But, if this show can make you like a literal nazi, I'm sure Jotaro has to improve by the end, right?

CeCactus13

Just what I needed to keep me awake!

Nina

You 100% have watched that intro, you just don't remember it. I don't blame you, I imagine it all starts to blend together if you haven't seen the source material yet and watch them all back to back.

SapphireRose

Fun fact: the voice of Avdol is also the voice of All Might from the My Hero Academia anime

Ryan valasquez

Yeah not a lotta people like jotaro in his first appearance (I certainly didn't) just know he does get "better" so to speak

Kawaii Edgelord

Nope, I totally get it. Araki was really leaning in to the delinquent character with Jotaro, he likes really shaking things up.

Twiska Brand

Jotaro is like that because this is an old manga. Back then main characters in manga were like Goku from Dragon Ball. Jotaro was one of the first "ass hole" main characters in manga. He was based on Clint Eastwood. Back then, his attitude was fresh and new. An anti-hero. Someone who is a bad person but still fights against absolute evil. Jonathan was the typical goody-two-shoes protagonist at the time, but Araki was bored writing him, so he killed him off. Then he tested the waters with Joseph. When people responded well to him, he went further with Jotaro.

Mr. Parakeet

As a die-hard Jojo's fan, I totally agree with you. Early Jotaro sucks. I think it's easy for us Jojo's fans to forget how much he sucks in the first bit of part three. Unfortunately, in my opinion, he's not that much better in the rest of part three. He's not as explicitly terrible for the rest of the part, but he's still kinda not a great person. There's a good amount of context and reasoning for his actions, but it really only becomes clear when you do a character study of his actions. Additionally, Jotaro returns in later parts, and he is a far superior character in any other part he comes in on. Which is a while to wait, but I personally think it's worth it.

Chanfyr

I heard someone say Jotaro is a nervous kid who's copying action heroes from movies who at the time were mostly assholes

AliceYouWereHere

We kind of do have Johnathan back. Well, his body at least.

Jargo

There's a theory about why Jotaro is such an asshole (especially compared to the memories his mother had) but it's spoilerific, if you keep up this rate of 1 episode a day I'll tell you in... 46 days. If I can remember, lol

LampyLust

tbh I forgave Jotaro when I saw him all tied up like that :D

Barnabás Mucsi

The manga states that Jotaro only hates loud and annoying women, not all women. That includes his mother, I'm not justifing his rudeness to his mother, but that's a facter, too. Also in the first episode it is mentioned that Jotaro's father is on a musical tour or world tour, so we don't know if this is a uniqe situation or his father isn't around his family a lot, but if he really went to buy some milk then that's also a factor for Jotaro's delinquence. But yeah, from the first 2 episodes, Jotaro doesn't really give good first impretions.

BB

There're shitty teachers tho. Either they didn't get much money they wanted or just didn't like children and didn't do their job well, they existed. One of my friends had one that just hated students and abused them who did a little mistake, and now that teacher was already fired.

Little Go0n A

you'll warm up to jotaro eventually trust me. or don't. thanks for the content <3

Mr. 2Dirty

Oh yea no. Jotaro’s a shit at first, but over time we see him get “better”

Rat#394

"You can't be pushy, mean and ugly." -??? hold my juice.

Ivan

About teachers, I did 5 years in uni for one, i can tell you, teachers in central and eastern europe, and asia, had been brutal, since they were alowed to beat you a bit. Japanese teachers are extremely know for this. Also, he never called his mama a bitch, translation leans into NASTY Jotaro. he calls her "kono onna" that means "this woman" (this is extremly rude to call someone in japanese sociaty) With all this being said, he is little shit here. Strong are to protect the weak imo

sexy hunk

Jotaro in Part 3 is pretty much an edgelord teen who saw a "cool, badass character," in some movie or tv show and decided to emulate it and make it his entire personality. The difference between him and the average edgelord is that he won the genetic lottery by being handsome and 6'4. Keep watching, he gets better.

Rat#394

I'm watching JoJo for the first time with you and there's only one reason for Jotaros shitty personality, that I can come up with. He might have been a good baby, but what if getting his powers made him affraid, that he might accidently hurt someone, which is why he's pushing people around him away. Maybe he's just trying to severe his bonds, so that others want miss him, if he decides to run away? In the first episode he wanted to stay in prison, because "he might hurt someone". I really hope to see at least some flashbacks of happy and respectfull younger Jotaro.

GormleyPeach

I can feel all the angry comments coming lmao this part is probably my least favorite as a whole compared to other parts, it's the longest and has some episodes that feel like monster of the week. Cant wait for Part 4 which is my favorite! Parts 1-3 feel like products of their time were 4 and onward for me are where the story and art really start to pick up and just keep getting better and better!

Xerox the beautiful

As the son of a teacher/principal and a former special needs student who had many teachers just give up on teaching me I have to say while while in general teachers get a lot of shit they don't deserve there are also a lot of teachers who really do take their position of authority too far to the point where it harms their ability to teach. Half the horror stories my mom tells us when she comes home from a stressful day at work are about the teachers she had to reprimand for not doing their jobs properly. Jotaro seems like he has a really low tolerance for bullshit in general so he was probably talking about teachers like that.

Grei Glace

yeah no teachers have ever abused their role, especially in times of corporal punishment

Optimystical

So honestly Part 3 was the second weakest part but after rewatching part 1 with yall. It's definitely at the bottom. Suffers from the time it was written Stands are interesting and Araki fine tuning the concept throughout the part is evident. It definitely gets better the further the part gets.

N00B

The Stands are extensions of the Users' souls, almost like extra limbs. Elfenlied is a JoJo's reference.

Stuffle-chan

I believe that Jotaro simply acts the way he does due to the circumstances he's been placed in. He naturally just yells at his mother to shut up and so forth, but he didn't even want to return home from jail because he didn't know what a stand was and is afraid of his stand hurting other people. That doesn't justify it of course, but he cares for her, and doesn't want her to get wrapped up in the stand situation. He naturally caught on to bad habits and actions from bad people, and wants to push the people close to him away, so that they don't get hurt. Judging by the other male students at his school, it doesn't exactly seem that he grew up in an exactly "positive" environment. Even though actions may be different, it's not always right to judge without knowing the proper intention (at least in my opinion). I fully understand though, I also didn't exactly like Jotaro at first glance.

Zorndyke

Gotta admit I forgot how awful Jotaro was to his mom. He's definitely the worst JoJo towards women. That's a big reason why he doesn't end up as a lot of folks favorite. And each JoJo is intentionally very different so I don't blame you if you don't like this one. I do think he gets better after a critical moment and his beatdowns of villains are some of his favorite. At the very least, none of the other JoJos have his attitude problem and all the side characters of this parrt are great.

Joey Cat

Didn't expect the dub to be even more disrespectful then the sub XD

Convergeman

Damn I forgot how terrible Jotaro was in these episodes, the writing for him somehow feels even more dated than part 1's dialogue, and that was going for a more Shakespearean tone anyway. Also idk if Jotaro is everyone's favourite, but part 3 is the longest of the anime parts so far so he certainly has much longer to leave an impression.

Brentin

I honestly hope youtube comments aren't going to be that bad. At the end of the day its your opinion so they've got no room to judge especially since you've just started part 3. That being said Jotaro is one of my favorites but I can completely understand the dislike of him. I might be biased due to being introduced to jojo through part 3 so he was my first jojo and I think coming up he should get relatively better.

Reiko Lupus

Yeah, Jotare isn't exactly the best person XD. He's beloved for being a badass, not for being good... At least for now.

Aspy130

Honestly I don’t really like jotaro much either. Joseph and the new characters still carry part 3 for me though

Cark

I almost choked on my food hearing the dub, I was not expecting that!😂 Jotaro isn’t my favorite either (that goes to Joseph, Josuke, and Jolyene) but the side characters here are some of my favorites!

HyperEnte

While yeah, Jotaro can often be overly rude (while get a lot better with time) you can't really judge the girls in the show simping for him while simping for Scaramouche yourself who is (arguably) a lot more toxic

Aspy130

I agree with the teacher thing for most teachers but I’ve had some that to this day I still hate lmao. They need to be paid better but there’s still some psychos

NateLocke

If I may make my case, I feel this anger at Jotaro is a bit misplaced just because his behavior is really context important. Jotaro is a bancho kid in the 80s in Japan and the translation team really did him dirty. In the 80s, and before then, Japanese schools were... let's just say not the best to their students and the bancho was a cultural response to it. Bancho kids were delinquents but they were highly respected since they were standing up to the poor treatment they were under and were just generally seen as cool and tough. Also the economic bubble of the 80s made it so most people had good money and professions like service work and teachers were making some fairly good cash so I'm not too upset with the whole "not paying the bill for bad food" thing. Not cool but not as bad as it would be in the States. Jotaro never calls his mom a bitch, he says something more along the lines of "this annoying woman" which isn't nice but it's not cruel, it's just a defiance of social hierarchy that is pretty taboo in Japan which is why I think they made him say "bitch" in the localization. Now that's not to say I agree with Jotaro a lot of the time in the early episodes, he needs to be put in his place a bit, but he is a good kid deep down. He kept himself in the jail cell so that he wouldn't hurt anyone with excessive force, he shows genuine care for his mother (this will be more apparent later on but the "looking pale" thing was alluding to it and the fact that he only started acting like this in high school shows that it was adopted behavior and not who he actually is), and most of his violence is for display rather than looking for fights. He's an edgy kid with daddy issues who has no real friends that fell into a delinquent crowd. He's an asshole sometimes and it's a real shock to the system after Jonathan and Joseph, but I think hating him is a bit unfair considering the context and what he's actually saying and doing. PS: He's about as rude to the girls as he is with his mom. He tells his mom to shut up because she's "being annoying" and he tells the girls "Shut up, you're all annoying". Idk why the translation team made it so much worse against Holly but eh, anime I guess lol.

Enchiladas

Y'all fr got some weird subtitles

18C

I’m somewhat newer to JoJo as a whole, but did something happen to Jotaro? In the flashbacks in the first episode with his mom, it looked like he was about the same age he is now, if just a year or so younger and he was being super nice and buying his mom flowers and telling her he loved her and stuff. Did getting his stand change his attitude or was it something else?

Bastiwen

Oh before you get the wrong idea, Kakyoin's ability has nothing to do with the painting or the puppet, those are just for theatrics. Also, depends on the country, teachers actually get paid a descent salary.

Divi Forrester

oh my god I forgot how much early Jotaro sucks ass, I appreciate the roast in the middle "Even I know evil when I see it!" "No maybe you're the problem!" LMAO

PsychoHelmet

I gotta say, I've never seen someone hate Jotaro as much as you guys lol
