So glad you caught on to that little moment with askelad and the leader question, the writer of vinland saga is so good at using expressions to convey exactly what a character is feeling

Mike

You can tell that Askeladd is deeply anguished by having to kill Thors. His reaction of Thors death is just seething anger. He did not want to kill him but knew there was no other way.

vinland saga its an amazing show, but its a slower show, certainly top tier, can´t wait for season 2

Ivan

Slight History Lesson about Viking navigation. They used stars, moon /sun to navigate BUT they had also chants or folklore songs where what was positioned. Due to historic long seafaring tradition they also developed bird spoting so they know what bird it was so they knew if they are close to land or no. History fun side note: Viking girls were (supposedly) first to wear bra. (were made out of metal)

Sven Hegenbart

had the same reaction - Was starting in the ep knowing he would die 100% but the show really made you hope and wondering if it really happends. Vinland Saga is pretty good in portaying emotion and body language

James Decker

People always forget the archers. Even if Thorfinn wasn't there this would've played out the same way, Thors would've srill given up his life to protect Leif and the other boys.

Kinky

In comparison, the manga actually started In Medias Res (Starting out in the middle of the story) and then flashing back to Thorfinn's backstory/Thors' death in early chapters. But it's such a brilliant decision for the anime to do things chronologically instead, because the impact of this episode is just next level.

"Alan's" name is pronounced Ash-Lad. Don't worry about the spelling. Just think Ash like fire and Lad like a little boy, and you'll remember it.

Ivan

Short Viking history lesson: While they Are depicted as savage filthy barbarians, you have to realize that this was written mainly by Catholic society that frowned upon everything non Christian. Reality is somewhat different. Most of them were extremely into grooming and self care. They excavated a lot of small bone combs in warriors possession. They were also into colorful garments gems and golden items. Long story short, they had swag

Scott Tyson

So glad you caught "Allan" wasn't joking when asking Thors to lead them. So many ppl miss that and assume he was just joking.
