If deku wasn't sleep deprived and cared so much about them ....they wouldn't have stood a hair of a chance

This is a lot of peoples' faves for a reason

In the end, Deku's classmates couldn't stop him. His best friend couldn't stop him. His boyfriend couldn't stop him. His girlfriend couldn't stop him. A genuine apology from his rival was the only thing that made him even consider stopping.

TBH I wouldn't even call this side of Deku "edgy". He's tired, sad, and feels like everything that's going down is his responsibility, as the current holder of OFA. Even when saving others you can see that he's worried they'd feel threatened by him right before his concerns pull him back to "no time, need to find AFO"; his conversation about leaving All Might behind was entirely out of concern for his safety, and he even said so. This is a child whose on the edge of burning out, handling an issue way too big for any human to handle, let alone someone as young as he is. Any effort he makes in keeping people at a distance come from genuine interest in their wellbeing, and fear that they might become collateral damage if they get too close

yeah, this whole thing was inevitable. deku has always been a self-centered pos and this is the natural consequences of no one ever bothering to actually call him out on his bs throughout the entire series. because apparently all that matters at the end of the day is that we got our happy ending, doesn't it? the how and why we got there doesn't matter, because we got lucky and everything worked out... look, most people don't get it when i say that deku has always been an incredible selfish character. i'm not saying he doesn't care about others, quite the opposite actually. but, paradoxically enough, his drive to help is ultimately what makes him so incredible selfish. the thing about deku is that he has this strong urge to help others, which in on itself isn't a bad thing. the problem with deku is that he can't - or even really tries to - control it. deku NEEDS to be involved, he NEEDS to try to help others. he's like an addict, whose literally incapable of doing anything else than to indulge his own addiction. and that's what makes him so incredible selfish. deku doesn't do what he does because that is what is best thing to do in that situation, it's because he has to satisfy his own urge to help at all costs. if you gave deku the choice between swallowing his own feelings and to step aside, so someone more qualified can do the job instead, which would give the person in danger the highest chance of survival, or instead to go in himself, while risking the almost guaranteed death of the person in danger, deku would always choose the second option. because ultimately, deku is a slave to his emotions and can't help but to get involved himself - even if his interference/involvement is a detriment to the situation (or at least would be in a world where he wasn't predetermined to succeed due to main character plot armor). just like when he decided to (potentially) jeopardize and ruin the combined efforts of countless heroes and the police to save bakugo during the hideout raid arc. not because that was what was the best for bakogu in that situation, but simply because he couldn't control himself and needed to satisfy his urge to do something. (deku and the gang's presence at the time could have ruined the heroes' rescue attempt in a myriad of ways, ie tipping of the villains to the heroes' presence, making it so that the heroes can't carry out their plan due to the risk of hurting someone who shouldn't have been present in that area, getting in the way of a hero trying to chase down a villain, ect) or just like when he decided to force a bunch of heroes to take an untrained, inexperienced kid with no significant or important skills for the mission with them on a raid against one of the biggest crime syndicates in the region. not because that was best for eri in that situation, but simply because he couldn't control himself and needed to satisfy his urge to get involved. (remember, the other heroes only really allowed the ua students to participate in the raid, since they were afraid they'd pull something similar to what they did during the hideout arc and decided it was better that they knew where they were, instead of having them try sneak in themselves and ruining the operation. otherwise, the same as above applies.) and just like when he decided to risk the safety of thousands of people and to (potentially) jeopardize the future of UA as a whole and the hundreds of students there. not because that was what was the best way to protect those in danger in that situation, but simply because he couldn't control himself and needed to satisfy his urge to keep his promise to eri instead. (deku might have suspected that gentle was no danger to anyone present at UA, but at the time there was no way to verify that for certain. and even if he wasn't, as nezumi mentioned after the attack on the training camp, gentle managing to get into UA for any reason would have meant that the school would have been forced to shut down either way, due to being under massive social pressure after having failed to stop a villain attack on the school twice already (the attack on the USJ and the attack on the training camp), so they absolutely couldn't allow a third incident under any circumstances.) deku is and never has been about doing the right thing to safe and protect those around him. no, what he's about is satisfying his own urges. "i need to help", "i need to safe", "i need to protect", "I need..", "I". me! me! freaking me! so what's happening here is really just more of the same. deku once again being purely driven by his own emotions and only focusing on satisfying his own urges over anything else. did he, during all of this, even once stop to ask any of his so-called friends what they wanted or what their thoughts were on the matter? if they were fine with fighting and risking their lives? no, of course not. because that would require him to for once in his life to actually control his own emotions and consider anything else than how he feels, and deku is entirely incapable of that. but hey, at least this time his so-called friends actually bothered to call him out on it for once. only took them 130+ episodes or so to do so, but better late than never i guess. god, i really do like the story overall - i wouldn't care if i didn't -, and i wish i could enjoy it more, but as long as deku's main character trait is "it doesn't matter what's best for those in danger, all that matters to me is that i can fulfil my own urge to help others" (or more importantly, as long as the story refuses to acknowledge how dangerous and irresponsible his behavior is even once), i simply can't. he's simply not a good hero. he utterly lacks the most crucial quality of any hero: the ability to be truly selfless. to put aside how he feels and to do what's best for those in danger, rather than to indulge his own urge to get involved at any cost, and as long as that's the case i simply can't enjoy him as a character.

Bakugo: "I'm sorry for everything." Deku: "Oh wow, we *are* fucked."

Imagine if, after Deku finally breaks down after all the heartfelt words of his classmates, there's a brief pause...and then you hear a "Oui!".

Seraphem

Damn that whole thing is so freaking GOOD!
