Story Ideas: Breakup Themes (Patreon)
Content
So, I'm 1,500 words into the next chapter of 'The Fat Girlfriend Trap' and I'm just finding myself burnt out tonight, so I'm going to try and finish the scene I am working on tomorrow and post it to patreon *Wednesday* night. In the meantime, I'll share some general ideas I have for future stories based around the same theme: Breakups
Breakups are a big catalyst in WG fiction. And there are a lot of different ways a breakup might inspire a potential protagonist to pack on the pounds. For some of these ideas, there might already exist a WG story that uses the mechanism, but I hope some of these ideas are unique. Feel free to let me know.
Idea 1: A story about a woman who was maintaining a slimmer figure for her ex during the relationship, but now can't be bothered doing it after the breakup.
In this idea, this lady was spending anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes working out when she went to the gym four times a week. Additionally, she also tried to limit how many calories she took in from food per day. For this girl, this took a serious effort because she's a lover of delicious comfort food.
After the breakup in a bit of emotional pain, this girl decides to relax and enjoy indulging in some of the things she deprived herself for so long.
I imagine she might say to herself, “I spent all that time trying to look sexy for him. I couldn’t eat the things I love like cheese burgers, cake or cookies and I had to work out like crazy all the time. At least now I can indulge myself without worrying about the consequences. I really can’t be bothered staying in shape at the moment.”
Idea 2: A story about a girl who starts partying again with friends after a breakup.
This girl is excited to be out of an unhappy relationship and now wants to celebrate her freedom. She wants to enjoy being single and carefree again.
Here’s the thing…
Parties and going out with single friends usually comes with some alcohol consumption. Other than making a person drunk, alcohol also works as an appetite stimulant (i.e. boosts appetite), so this woman is more likely to eat more after she’s been drinking.
While drunk, she is more inclined to make bad food choices (e.g. eat a plate of cheesy nachos, or a burger and fries, rather than a chicken salad).
As a result, she will slowly, but surely gain weight.
Idea 3: A story about a girl who has been missing her ex and has been trying to eat away her pain
For this girl she turns to food for temporarily feelings of comfort. For her, emotional eating is a way to fill the emptiness she is feeling in life, by filling up her stomach.
Basically for this girl, food creates a false feeling of fullness, so for a little while, she doesn’t have to be overwhelmed by her feelings of loss and loneliness after the break up.
This girl also used to regularly go to the gym but, now she now avoids it because she doesn’t feel motivated.
As a result of her physical inactivity and emotional stress, she ends up gaining weight. Before she knows it, she has put on 5, 10 or 15 pounds. She looks different and it stresses her out, but she just can’t seem to find comfort in anything else than food.
Idea 4: A story about a girl who after a breakup no longer feels like she needs to be slim to be attractive and now expects men to just like her now that she's bigger.
Initially, this woman worries about putting on weight, thinking, “I have to stay slim, or else I won’t be able to attract quality guys.”
Yet, after a breakup she tries tinder and other dating apps. Most dating apps have 6-10 times more men than women, so lots of men end up competing for her and all of this attention and interest goes to this woman’s head.
Since she is getting so much attention, dates and sex via Tinder with good quality guys, she starts to think that she doesn’t really have to care about her appearance anymore.
She might even think to herself, “All the effort I used put into looking good and staying slim for my ex was a waste of time. Even though I’ve gained so much weight since the break up, I’m getting loads of matches from quality men. Men do like me. So, it’s probably a myth that quality men only like thin women. Maybe men have changed these days and like women who are heavier.”
Idea 5: A story about a girl who has been emotionally damaged by the breakup and is now trying to make herself look less attractive to stop men from find her as appealing.
Of course, as she forces herself to gain weight she discovers some guys prefer her bigger. This story would be about this girl finding a caring FA who helps heal her emotionally damaged heart.
Idea 6: A story about a girl who, after a breakup wants to see if she can find a man who will love her for who she is as a person, rather than how she looks.
This is similar to idea 5. The difference being that this girl ends up with an FA and thinks he loves her for for who she is rather than how she looks, only to discover the physical preference late into the relationship and have to make a choice about her commitment to her 'love is blind' style journey.
THE END
Okay, so those are the general ideas I have in relation to breakups as a catalyst for WG in a story. let me know what you thought of the ideas, which were your favorites, which were the least favorites, and if you have any that I didn't think of. If you want to add anything to my very general ideas, please do, perhaps one day I could turn one of these very general notions into a more developed story of some kind!
Alright, that's it for tonight, again, I'll try and make my more substantive post *Wednesday* night after I've had some more time to flesh out the next scene of 'The Fat Girlfriend Trap'!
Goodnight!
