I can't decide. Help.

Doing a video on infrasound and finishing up the scripting and data processing after a long month. But now a new challenger appears. Do I...

Comments

ChefDeCuisinart

Only do it if you can do it safely, obv.

Jason Singh

The cooler option but only if it's also still safe 👍🏽

Sebastian Harenbrock

If you have to ask, the answer is always go to the epicentre

L Francis

As long as u don't die dude

Unthank

I don’t believe you need this poll, I’m pretty sure you’re going to the epicentre regardless…

stoic

Option 2 sounds awesome but be careful out there

Adam Johan Bergren

As long as you stay safe, have fun with whatever you decide!

Evan444

Yes yes And Safely Data won’t matter if you get injured

Lee Snyder

I hesitate to say "Go to the epicenter..." but you'd get the best data there!

Sia

Please stay safe Benn. But the second option is super cool.

OverSoft

I think I speak for all Patreons when I say: take your time. Quality over quantity. But be safe please!

CAT

Don't go chasing hurricanes. The world cannot afford to lose people like you right now.

David

I voted for the epicenter, but I don't want you to take any serious risks!

Matt Rozema

Only go to the hurricane if it can be done safely. Easily the better option ;-)

LarryTru

I voted for remote, but if you can go to the epicenter, SAFELY, without taking significant risks.... OK. That would be very cool. 😉

Julian Delaney

I went with the safer sounding (lol) of the two options. #riskaverse4benn

Saad Ayad

Are you able to convert the remote seismograph readings at a later time? If so, go to the hurricane now (safely) if you can!

Derek Koger

A differential would be interesting analysis as well (to see if there's value in going into the heart of the beast with additional hardware for infrasonic)

L Brown

Just don't die plz.

Nate Childers

Much as I'd love measurements from a hurricane i'd prefer you to be out of harms way.

Shay

The center of the hurricane is obviously most cool, but ONLY if you think you can be safe!

t

Please stay safe but option 2 is pretty cool. Random question after watching a stream where you mentioned seismology, have you looked into using a MEMS accelerometer for infrasound recording?

Damian Sol

The obvious choice for me is B, assuming you can do it safely.

baseten

Do you have any friends with a hurricane hunter plane?

Jeremy Bramwell

stay safe, dont let the Flock thugs that i imagine are after you catch up to you while you are in an evacuation zone.

Souvillaine

Just be safe please, don't risk your wellbeing for science

Luffy

Epicenter adventure, only if you can make it safe enough. I trust you to assess the safety threshold.

CAT

Kind of makes me wonder how many of Bellerophon's fans thought it would be super rad for him to buzz Mount Olympus. Safely, of course. This is one reason why the world is still so full of monsters.

MrToast

just don’t die bro 🙏

Mattzog

B, and be moderately cavalier about your safety. Don't die unless it's worth it.

iktómi sakála

Like I'm used to say in my country "vite fait bien fait, ça n'existe pas". Take time to do properly. Hasty is messy. (just be safe, remember what happened to people in 1996 Twister)

Joe Barth

I think you know what we all want. The thing that sounds more dangerous.

David Iwinski

You can convert readings anytime, correct?! (please do eventually) Into the eye, safely!

nesiac

Safety third!

Escapement Dog

Hurricanes are a dime a dozen, we only get one Benn.

Tony Hoffman

Videos can wait for proper data! Also be safe!

_truck

As everyone else has said, while I voted for epicenter, please only attempt it without major risk to life, limb, or valuable gear (unless you have insurance for that sort of thing). It’s only the more badass option if you survive unscathed.

Kuroth

With prep and a properly researched flood-safe location (at least a few miles inland and on higher ground), it would be very very cool to get the infrasound with the right equipment directly from the source! Safety first, but cool sounds can follow closely behind! As a lifelong Floridian who has ridden out many hurricanes, I know it can be done safely with proper planning and location. The hardest part is going to be picking the exact spot the hurricane will impact with enough time left to get there and set up properly and safely. If you figure that out, a lot of meteorologists might want to pick your brain. 😉

ecological conservation

seismograph is more telling of the flow of one of the major movements of the natural world and how it interelates with everything else here in earth. Not only that but going into a hurricane is more life threatening and infrasonic measurements are not inter related the way that seismographs are. Like infrasonic is kinda like a type of the note in the song that appears but seismographs are like the bass if this logic makes sense.

Paul Holz

Be safe Ben. Really hoped the results were more in favor of the seismograph readings…

Andy Mutton

You can’t outsource a decision like this. I’m sure you’ll choose whichever path is right for you.

Nick Perez

Man, I can't in good conscience vote to send you to the middle of a damn hurricane (even if it would be fuckin rad).

Mark Matthews

Sorry - cannot recommend you go into the middle of a hurricane. That said, that is probably what I would do

Eugene Barth

Why is the epicenter of a hurricane a place to record proper infrasonic measurements? II am excited about learning the answer!

Dest

Feels weird telling someone to go into a hurricane. Alas, here I am.

Tom Loredo

Looks like it will be a tropical storm in the Bahamas this weekend, and *may* become a hurricane afterward, but its evolution and development are highly uncertain as of now (Fri evening). From what I've read, it's not expected to be an especially strong hurricane if it does make landfall in the Carolinas early next week, so maybe it's not as dangerous as some commenters are worried about. And it's not unlikely it won't make landfall at all. I think you need to wait a day. If landfall becomes more likely but it wouldn't be too serious, that would strengthen the case for hurricane measurements. Maybe book a couple cancelable rooms in the predicted Cone Of Death 8-), and make a final decision Saturday.

Blair Foulds

I've done quite a bit of storm-chasing in my day, so I'll ask: Do you have a plan if you make it to a strong hurricane at landfall? Do you know what you are doing? Are you gonna bring food and water for a few days and park in a parking garage to ride it out?

Supersoaker

I'm interested in both. Just be careful

Mark Karney

Visiting the epicenter of the hurricane might be interesting and yield some unique recordings. I think I would rather have you around to do more interesting stuff in the future.

Martin Tepper

Jeez don't put yourself in danger oO

Gabriel Pepici

Benn, bro, I voted for you to do it but please be careful, we need you! <3

AArexx AAron Ruscetta

Respect, as usual, for your dedication to thorough research in your work. Going to the epicenter seems a recognition of your diligence by the majority of your followers.

Dreaming in my Universe

If you think you´ll be safe, go for it, but for the love of god, don´t get the puppies in danger!

Jay Helms

It’s gonna turn east. 🤞🏼

Rowan DeWitt

Either way, it would be interesting to compare the year and far infrasound measurements, since they can travel long distances so well. Could be interesting to see how much they change

JamesDBartlett3

Only because I don't want to send you into the center of a hurricane. Safety is more important than sampling.

Christian Thordin

In case you go to the hurricane, you should try to go with an experiensed stormhunter… ask dr. Timmer Reed he is a good human and you are giving science a intresting parameter…

Brian Thompson

If you haven't been in the eye of a hurricane, it's an interesting experience. The serenity between both sides of the storm is surreal. There's likely another piece on disaster recovery to be done as well, if that's of interest.

William Pollak

I trust you’ll do your due diligence and be as safe as possible, and if that due diligence brings you to “too dangerous” to go to the eye then do remote. Also wow people really want those eye readings

Reuben

We wanna watch you go into a hurricane. Cause we trust you can handle it.

SpiritCreek

I think going is not worth the risk, you are too valuable. Send someone else. We want you safe!
