We return back to the Silva household two weeks from where the last chapter left off, with Connie enjoying the newly changed family, but maybe she's let herself get a little too complacent. We start this arc with Connie getting some bad news, and coming up with a new trick to try and get what she wants.  Enjoy "It Would Make Me Happy" Part 1, with part 2 coming out later this month.

agreed. this story just gets better from chapter to chapter

There was a lot to like here. I enjoyed the time lapse, and description of the 'new normal', and I figure that will continue on if we get back home in the next chapter. I like that Connie is holding off trying to push Gloria any further, and that she realized that one misstep could collapse everything. Finding a new method of pushing the Silvas was a great idea, and keeps things fresh. I liked that Jane ended Connie's training. It reinforced that while the hypnosis might be able to set a new normal, the Silvas attitudes aren't just going to stay static. With the current situation, it wouldn't be out of the question for Jane to hit up Connie for some casual sex in the future if she's feeling horny, but it doesn't make sense for the sex training to continue. (Along those lines, now that Connie can nudge them along by indicating that something makes her happy or unhappy, I wonder if she might be able to use that to modify Jane's dating/sex life in future. Something like 'It really makes me unhappy to see you dating someone who is using you like that". It probably wouldn't allow her to control who Jane is attracted to, or force her into monogamy, etc, but I'll bet she could use it to keep Jane sexually frustrated.) I liked Jane's reaction to finding out that Tara believed she and Connie were dating, why Connie hadn't mentioned it to her, etc. It seemed very much in keeping with her conditioning. It would probably be difficult for any of younger Silva women to get mad at Connie at this point, unless she's deliberately pushing things. They all want her to be happy, and this was a situation where she persuing something that kept her happy in the short term, but went against what Jane would understand Connie's long-term happiness to need. All in all, very consistent :D The new control method, and the way Connie happened upon it was amusing. I liked that both Silva sisters were trying to get her along with the other. The rom-com having a mind-control plot device Connie could draw from was a hell of a coincidence, but I don't consider that a negative in a fun erotic MC story like this.

Oh, along these lines, I like that the new control method likely won't arouse Gloria's suspicions very easily. However, since she does regularly hypnotize the Silvas to check up on them (including odd behaviour), I can see her going suspicious if Michelle, Jane and Tara start explaining all their decisions with "It will make Connie happy", or even worse "Connie told me this would make her happy". I don't think this will derail the plot at all, but it does mean that in a few chapters, Connie will probably have to vary her methods again.

I honestly love how much some of you go into breaking down the stories, writing long posts about character motivations and strategies and such. Like, I'm amazed that the stuff I write has that much of an impact that you want to go into the story and analyze it, and give such great feedback. On the one hand, it is a little panic inducing since I know you guys are watching closely so I can't screw up, but it also motivates me to stay on my game and give you guys the best story possible. My only problem is I have some of the future stuff for this series planned out, but I have to figure out what to do for the next two immediate arcs haha. They need to focus on Michelle or Jane, so I'm going to ask you the readers what would you like to see Connie do, or what would you do next in her shoes? I'm not saying I'm going to steal your ideas lol, but it may inspire me to think up something good

Developing michelle always seems interesting, as she gets less focus than Tara/Jane. In addition, if you had Connie try to get the family more interested in each other, but they exclude Connie, that would have interested consequences. Tension is also good, so if Connie continues to struggle with power dynamic with Gloria, or if somehow the family can reverse roles somehow (even if temporarily), that would make things interesting.

I’m glad you enjoy the longer comments from fans. I’m glad you find it good for motivation, but I hope it doesn’t create too much nervousness. I’m generally happy to see where the story goes, and talk about it. The nice thing about online publishing is that if you do ever decide you’ve ‘screwed up’ even on a final draft, you can always revise  I don’t find this level of enthusiasm for every story in the MC genre, but there are a lot of things in ‘It Runs in the Family’ that click for me. The last story that I felt like giving this much feedback for was Pan’s ‘Limits’ stories, and they share a lot in common. Notably, both stories feature likable characters, as well as an imperfect control method that requires the protagonist to push the subjects in little ways, slowly altering their behaviour and running into road blocks. It is interesting to see what will work and what won’t, and make guesses and suggestions based on what we know. As far as Michelle goes, I had to do a bit of re-reading. I remembered in chapter 10 that Gloria was considering making the family comfortable talking about sex with each other, but not with Connie, and I had to re-read to confirm that the command was never actually given. It would have put a lot of a damper of Jane’s tutoring of Connie anyway, and that doesn’t seem to have slowed down. From Connie’s day of invisibility, we know that Michelle would use time she was sure she was along to masturbate, and had favourite scenarios, porn videos, etc. We also know that since the change, the girls have found her openly playing with herself in the kitchen in the morning. There hadn’t really been much mention of similar things for Jane or Tara, so it seems like this new freedom has really found root with Michelle. If masturbation has become so casual that she can do it in the open, and is okay carrying on a conversation while doing so, there are some interesting routes you could take from there. Would she be okay talking with Connie about masturbation techniques while doing so? Using sex toys? Watching porn in the open outside of movie night? Everyone cooks, but not everyone is a gourmand. Jane and Tara might be okay masturbating in the open at home, but I could see Michelle and Connie really bonding over being…masturbation fangirls…for lack of a better term. You also tend to bond with fellow enthusiasts over common interests. If Michelle knows Connie is a lesbian, she might avoid bringing up men, straight porn, etc just to make Connie feel comfortable, and because with her own burgeoning interest, it might not be so much of an issue. This kind of makes me wonder how privacy is going to work in the Silva house, and if this makes for a loophole. Would it be okay to go into someone’s room without knocking just because you know they’re jilling off, even if it would still be considered unacceptable? I suspect Connie would probably observe the Silvas for at least a few days before pushing that sort of boundary herself. On an unrelated subject, do we know if Michelle has had many relationships after the girls’ now-forgotten father? She likes giving her daughters and Connie relationship advice, but I’m wondering how much of it is based on what she actually knows first-hand. The gaps in her memory of what would have been an early relationship, and her embarrassment about her own sex-drive suggests that there might be some practical gaps. For Jane, I think a possible direction would have to do with her attitude changes since the beginning of the story. She seems a lot more comfortable with both Tara and Connie as both friend and mentor. She might very useful for helping break Tara out of her shell, and dispel some of her more romantic ideas about relationships. Maybe Jane could take the girls to some college parties, etc. I think once Tara understands more about Jane’s thoughts on hooking up, she might relax her ideas about the kind of relationship that Jane and Connie have, and what might be possible for Connie and Tara. Jane is also a pretty good example for Tara that the Silvas won’t blindly do whatever it takes to make her happy. Having sex with Jane was clearly making her happy, but based on what Jane knows, this wouldn’t be long-term happiness, so she’s ended it after she taught Tara what she knows. So even though Tara’s figured out this new trigger phrase, I think she’s going to be smart enough not to tell the Silvas flat out something like “I’d be happiest if we were all having sex with each other all the time”. I still think a possible route for a Jane arc would have to do with Tara keeping her sexually frustrated. Jane will do reasonable things to make sure Connie is happy, but I don’t think she’d sabotage her own preferences. Connie can’t just tell her “It would make me happy if you only had sex with women from now on”. Jane would probably just smirk and tell her she can’t turn everyone into a lesbian just because she likes women. But Jane has mentioned hooking up with girls as a great way to hook up with guys. Using a similar scenario to the above at a party, Connie might suggest that Jane help her figure out how to hook up with a girl to make out for a bit. Once Jane has done this and seems to have attracted a likely guy, before he can take her home, Connie could mention “I’d be really happy if you made sure Tara and I got home safe”. She could potentially build up Jane’s frustration over time. Jane’s going out for a date, so Connie can mention “I think we’d all be happy if you aren’t out too late”, etc. Building up sexual frustration seems like it might be away for Connie to get some extra leeway when suggesting things, etc. For example, Jane is presently against hooking up with Connie because the teaching is over, but that might not be the case if Connie’s the only available outlet.

Can you make Tara and Jane and Michelle slowly start competing for Connie's attention and favor?

Pi Xi

Also how much to have you move the story towards themes - like for instance having them fight to do Connie's hair or having them spend a lot of time on their hair to impress Connie?

sammynona

I'll be honest I don't know hairstyles very well but I'm sure it's something that can come up at some point

Thanks for the ringing endorsement!
