Catching bluegill for bait with Daniel. So loud out you can barely think. Daniel caught one of them and we found a couple shells.

Sitting on the banks of the Catawba River, SC, at the Landsford park Spider Lily festival and they are in the trees. Not overly loud but you know they are there.

I was in the top deck of an open overlook in Old Fort , NC once when the 17-18 yr. Cicadas were ravaging the forest all around the camp. The tree tops were right beside You in the overlook. They sound a lot different when they are fluttering around Your Ears . Still Loud... DEAFENING!! On Man Said " When they said Cicada , I thought they said Al Queda and were up there sharpening their swords or something " 🤣😊

I heard that both kinds are out this year at the same time, something that happens rarely?

They’re out here in Central Illinois also. Just started a few days ago.

They're so fuckin loud out here in Lewisburg,I swear to God it sounds like a school is having a never-ending fire drill and it's just echoing from every direction.

I never seen these particular kind before this year either!..Never!..so strange.

Taraleen Tundo

We got both this year!..but it's the first time I recall ever seeing these smaller orangish colored ones.

No Cicadas here, but we have Mormon Crickets just to the South. The highway dept. has to put up signs warning people of slick roads due to the trillions smashed on the road. Last year I came North up Hwy95 out of Winnemucca and a stretch about 30-40 miles long was brown from all the crickets on the road. They are about 2" long, make a loud crunching sound when smashed and stink. You want to wash your car as soon as possible after encountering them!🦗🦗🦗

I've only seen the red eyed guys in Missouri. Up here in Peoria, they have green bodies and black eyes. I'll know when they come up when the Cicada Killers patrol my porch waiting for them to emerge.

For me not so bad. For people whose houses they cover and yards and gardens they devour, Yes. I just have to drive over them sometimes. 🤪

This is going to be a major year for Cicadas, I heard! And having a mild winter should prove to be a bad year for skeeters to! When I was still at home on our farm, my parents call Cicadas, Locusts. Can they damage farm crops? I don’t think they do. Two different critters, the Wildlife should have extra food from them this year!

Michael Ash

They do not eat. They emerge to reproduce, then they die.
