FYI, "Do You Remember love" is a retelling of the entire first war in a short film (With jaw dropping animation) In Macross (and theoretically Robotech as well) "Do you Remember Love" is an "in universe" film about real events (Kinda like Black Hawk Down or any other historical film) In Macross they treat it as a film that came out some time after the episode Reconstruction Blues, and the characters reference it as a massive block buster. It's never referenced in Robotech (that I know of) in that way but it's Kinda-nuity in head Cannon 🤣

The BRM

This one particular episode is probably the one that is hurt most by throwing together three different series in order to make Robotech. All the Masters footage is taken from the next series and it grinds the pacing of the episode to a halt. I also kind of like the way the relationships go, I find it kind of realistic, people get stuck in ruts, in relationships that aren't healthy. Minmay and Kyle are one of those. And poor Lisa caught in the friend zone. I think you misread the Lisa thing last episode. Definitely not a cutting off from her, more a here, some pictures of me, *HINT HINT*. Lisa is a great commander, but is awful at handling relationships. And I might be unique but I kind of love the depressing feel of the Minmay stuff. The world was saved, but now you have to live in it. As a kid it was so interesting to see that rebuilding after a war was a long and difficult process, just because you won the effects are far from finished. Also, was about to recommend you watch Do You Remember Love, so I am beyond psyched to see your reaction to it. It's very much Macross, and the differences between it and Robotech become very clear. Looking forward to your reaction.

Seriously, the animation is beyond. I even find things to like in Macross II (The space battles are amazing. A shame the rest of it isn't)

The stuff after Reconstruction is kinda of a narrative there is no happily ever after. Zentrati are uprising. Minei is a falling star. Lynn Kyle is a drunk asshole (he didn't fall far) Rick and Lisa are being tasked with the security of only about 70k survivor's. (The Zentrati probably out number humans at this point) Protoculture is running out. Civilization is on a razors edge of failure. The Human race has fallen from an advanced space faring race to struggling to grow flowers. Also a tid bit. Those with blacked out eyes (like Lang) are Protoculture engineers and their eyes turning black is a side effect of messing with the stuff.

Ah man, DYRL is brutal. Super super weird way to retell the story. Someone referenced Black Hawk Down, but it's more like if you were watching Blackhawk down and then suddenly it was Stargate. Anyway, I hope you'll watch all of Robotech! If you want to watch every bit of Robotech, here's the list in chrono order: Robotech: The Macross Saga (first arc of the TV series) Robotech II: The Sentinels (should watch the episode cuts, not the movie cut. Makes much more sense) Robotech: The Untold Story (theatrical film) Robotech: The Masters (second arc of the TV series) Robotech: The New Generation (third arc of the TV series) Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Robotech: Love, Live, Alive

Just finished the vid. I think you're going to love the next episode, and i think it'll ease a lot of the concerns you had with this one, which admittedly had to be spliced up to include footage from Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross in order to be a bridge to the second act of the series.

Your comments about friends at the beginning touched me in a way I didn’t expect. Back in the day, during summer holidays, my friend and I would ride through our small town on our bikes pretending we were in the New Generation timeline. I had another friend years later (RIP, buddy) who was a fan of the show and we’d marathon my taped episodes. So synching these episodes with your commentary really is like sitting down with a friend. ❤️🤜🤛
