First, my favorite part of the episode: I really liked the little smile on Ransom's face when he realized Mariner was stepping up and offering to mentor Olly the same way Ransom mentored Mariner last season. Great character moment for Ransom and a great example of how Mariner has grown. But yeah, focusing so much time on a new character seemed like an odd choice considering this is the final season. Considering the lead time needed for animation, maybe it was too late to reverse course on this episode by the time they found out they were cancelled? I can't be too hard on them though. Even an "average" Lower Decks episode is pretty good.
