I too struggle with whether or not bringing back Shaxs was a good thing. I mean, Shaxs is great but his death was incredibly impactful. I feel like his return hurt Kayshon's development as well. A few thoughts about this episode: 1) This episode is obviously a play on season seven episode 15 of ST:TNG called "Lower Decks". It showed the Enterprise from the perspective of a group of ensigns instead of the command crew. It is an excellent episode and is credited as one of the inspirations for ST:LD. It might be worth a special "one-off" watch after ST:LD is over. 2) When the Clicket complains that Carol doesn't recognize them even though they have faced off before, he is right! The Clickets appeared in the first season ST:LD episode "Veritas". In Mariner's part of the story, they attacked the Ceritos after Carol complimented them for providing a map of the neutral zone. 3) The Battle of Tempasa that Shaxs is reliving is mentioned in DS9. 4) The one man show references events from a couple episodes of ST:TNG.
