Welcome to our ’Austen Bag Making Series'!

We are so excited to return with the next 'Summer of Stitching' 2024 series! This month, Kay will take you through every stage of creating the gorgeous 'Austen Bag' which she designed exclusively for this series. Whilst this bag does incorporate the slow stitched piece which we created last month, Kay tells you what to do if didn't create the slow stitched fabric.

In today's instalment of the series it's time to properly get sewing your bag. Along the way Kay shares with you all her up to date special hints and tips for getting that perfect finish.

Join Kay as she:

  • Recaps what we did last time and talks you through what we’re doing today

  • Lets you know how to interface your panels

  • Shows you how to line up and sew your draw string channels into your bag

  • Demonstrates how to sew the two sides of you bag together

  • Shows you how to secure your bag and mark the gap

  • Lets you know what to do before the next part of the series

  • You can find a full listing of all the materials used in this series here https://www.patreon.com/posts/summer-of-2024-104966061

Cannot wait until the next part. I’ve got all the parts sewn together and I’m so excited to be making my own project bag!

Hi Kay, love this bag! Do you iron the seams open or folded to the sides?

Mary Flowers

If you put the fabric without interfacing on the bottom(against the feed dogs) it will feed a little faster through the machine, and alleviate the overhang.
