Welcome to our ’Yarn’ Reviews Collection.

Today we begin a super exciting two part review series. Filmed over the summer, join Kay as she takes a deep dive intro 'Somerset Yarn's'. In today's first part of the series, Kay takes a close look at the yarn and talks through what type of sock would best suit it. Along the way she analyses how she thinks the yarn will knit up. Kay will return on the 17th of September with the final part of this series when all will be revealed!

Join Kay in this episode as she:

  • Takes a first look at Somerset Yarns fingering weight

  • Discusses some of the recent colourways

  • Lets you know her thoughts when she first saw the yarn and talks through the importance of research before making a gut reaction

  • Talks through micro striping, when it works and when it doesn’t

  • Takes a deep dive into how she thinks the yarn was dyed and how she thinks it will knit up

This looks amazing so I'm looking forward to see the socks in it.

I enjoy this type of yarn because its slight imperfections. It will definitely not create stripes, but there will be a fun effect - at least it seems it will. Looking forward to seeing how it works up.

Oh the brightness! I love it! So so fun!! :) Your discussion deconstructing the dying technique was so interesting Kay. I don't actually dye yarn myself. However I absolutely love watching all your dyeing content and information. It is so fascinating. When you create your amazing colour ways it always feel so magical and enchanting - like alchemy. I appreciate you didn't dye this yarn - but hearing you ponder the techniques used and potential outcomes for the project was so interesting. Looking forward to part 2! :) Have fun knitting the socks! :)

I wonder if you’ll get diagonal flashes of the pink speckles….
