It's great you know your mail carrier. I seldom see mine, just some mysterious person who delivers and collects the mail. Schools in the US have benchmark exams, and I think they use them to show you how smart you are compared to all the other kids your age. I don't really know if the data is of great value or not. We also have college entrance exams called SATs and ACTs, and I have no idea what the difference is. I know I took the ACTs. As a young, naive student, I was absolutely astonished that the colleges I applied to accepted me. I was always an average student. Then I grew up and learned that those entrance exams are bogus. If the college wants your money and you're willing to pay, then they're going to accept you regardless of your exam score. I think the exams are only important to the Ivy League schools.

Hi Jennifer. I was an elementary teacher for 36 years. The benchmark tests, the PSSA tests, achievement tests and the others, test the students on their ability to take tests. It is a snippet of a child’s true abilities. Some children are able to take tests and score well, others of the same ability level are just not great at test taking. They get nervous, second guess themselves, may not feel well, may be tired or emotionally distracted during that time. Teachers, well some like myself, use those tests as a guideline as to where to improve the teaching. A teacher who knows his/her students, are aware if the scores are faulty. I always told my students that it isn’t the grades they receive, or the scores they get on tests such as these….it is what type of person they become. Anyone can learn to do anything they desire with practice, great instructional materials and methods and the overall desire to succeed. You were correct about getting into especially state colleges regardless of scores. After all, it is what you do with your abilities once you get there, that counts. ❤️

In the US you needed to take the ACT or the SAT to get into college or university. To get into higher Education past collge-such as pharmacy or medical school (vetrinarian, dentist) there is another exam you must take to get into these schools/colleges. Ugh! Im so glad I dont have paper exams anymore. Just corporate hoops.
