Tom went to theatre school and was in musicals in the west end as a kid, he also wrote a musical with his sister Carrie years ago and ended up pitching it to a few directors (including Steven Spielberg) but nothing ended up coming out of that. I believe he is currently writing the music for the Paddington Musical too, musical theatre is a big love of his so that's why i think some of his songs have a theatrical tone to them.

All About You tom wrote originally as a valentines gift one year when he had forgotten to buy her anything, and it was never meant to be a mcfly song, but then they were asked to do the comic relief single in 2005 and tom said "if my girlfriend doesn't mind, i have this song" .. it is their biggest hit by a long way She Falls Asleep is written about a girl who commits once a boy leaves her house and about her struggle (as far as i know not true) danny (and i think his sister helped) wrote Don't Know Why kind of as message to his dad, who left when he was 18, and his dad cheated on his mum, and it's about how he and the rest of his family were feeling (if u listen to the lyrics more deeply u can see how angry/upset he was) u asked if tom has written for disney.. well yes but no... he wrote a song for "illuminate: a nighttime celebration" for the Shanghai Disney Resort called "Light is in You" the song was the soundtrack to the display, which celebrated the resorts 5 year anniversary

Dude you need to watch the wonderland concert it’s on YouTube and all of the dvd extras/behind the scenes should be on there to. It’s from 2005. That and the music videos would be a good shout too.

I love what you said about the trust between them to sing each other’s songs. One of the things I love about this band is there are absolutely no egos at all. They’re all so humble. Like I think during a tour during covid times, Tom got covid so Dougie sang a lot of Tom’s parts in songs and they realised a lot of fans really liked Dougie singing the part so they let him keep singing those parts even after Tom was back. That’s what I love about this band. 😊 They are so underrated.

Tom has also written musicals for his books the “christmassaurus” which i think you reacted to one of the songs he sang with his wife. The one where Harry dances! He also wrote mcfly the musical. They all have different writing styles and you can always tell a tom song or dougie song ( quite weird or angst) One of my favourite songs is “walk in the sun “ by danny so they are all good songwriters James bourne from busted wrote alot of the earlier songs with tom including their first single five colours There are also episodes of story of the songs on youtube too The next album is my favourite so cant wait for that

Great reaction. You now need to watch the Wonderland tour concert. All them songs live, with full orchestra for some of them. Yes, even She Falls Asleep was done on the tour!

The song Memory Lane was one of 4 songs that got Tom and Danny a record deal. (That Girl, Surfer Babe and Obviously being the other 3) They wrote a lot with James Bourne for both the first McFLY album. Memory Lane just didn't make it onto the first album for some reason.

I don't know how much you took in lyrically of 'She falls asleep' but it is the story of a girl who takes her own life. When you get to Radio active there is a 'answer' song, 'Down goes another one' that is from the perspective of the boyfriend she leaves behind.

The Ballard of Paul K is losely inspired by both Dougie and Danny's fathers. Dougie's left the family literally days before his first McFly audition and Danny's left shortly after the first album. Wonderland as a whole was a bit reaction to the UK music press branding them a boy band. They made a deliberate decision to be more 'grown up' in the hope that they would be taken more seriously by the media. Unfortunately even 20 years later they are often regarded as a light weight pop act and little credit is given to their musicianship and songwriting skills.

Serious competition here who’s more of a Poynter, me (with literally dougie on my tee right at this minute) or you. I’m fucking thrilled to have him being recognised as he is from you. matter of fact, proving that you guys are alike, his favourite song is TCFC as well (from that album). He says the lyrics are supreme and Tom wrote most of it, so he’s pretty proud of his friend (as per a podcast). Ultraviolet is my favourite one from that album! And She Falls Asleep. (Can’t wait for you to get to Radio Active (4th album) and Young Dumb Thrills (6th? I don’t know if it is counsidered as a 6th or 7th. Haha I guess 7th. Lost Songs is an album too, after all.)

Mirroring what others have said and adding that you should definitely watch the POV/She Falls Asleep/Down Goes Another One live concert video where they combine the songs and tell both sides of the story (the sound quality of the one at oxford new theatre is pretty good considering it was live and 12 yrs ago lol). Tom and Danny's voices fit the stories they're telling really well. I always find myself returning to that video.
