Chapter 75 - Undead Asylum Catacombs (4) (Patreon)

The power of the Lord of Light was highly hostile to the Undead, like really, really hostile, because its true fundamental nature was the antithesis against anything that was of the Undeath.
Seeing that the Skeleton Knight being destroyed one by one, the Lich that was in the command of everything, became rather agitated and decided to attack the trio of human, human and dwarf personally.
The Lich was Sequence 7 Lich, and while it was just at the bottom of the Sequences, neither of the three of them dared to underestimate the Lich. They were extremely dangerous and tricky opponents because anyone who became Lich had their sleeves full of tricks.
"I will be taking care of the Lich, Gotrik will finish the remaining Undead, and Mellisandre will provide support for both of us."
Valkorion planned to take on the Lich by himself because there were still many Undead all around them, and the Lich was an important target. Valkorion has a Sealed Artifact with the Holy and Light properties and that was the best thing against something like the Lich.
Gotrik and Mellisandre both acknowledged his commands as taken because neither of them was any of the strategic thinking in this aspect. Valkorion had rather an apt mind for strategy and tactical fighting, and there was always a need for someone to take up the leadership.
Valkorion rushed towards the Lich with the Excalibur raised and hacked towards the skeletal creature that surprisingly dodged to the side and blasted a dark ball of energy towards him.
He frowned seeing that because he didn't expect that the Lich was so combat-ready and managed to fight back. Nevertheless, Valkorion was already prepared for such an outcome because the Lich was already Sequence 7 Extraordinary Undead and was even armed at the same time.
He held a very rusty-looking sword as his sword clashed against the Excalibur, yet when the exchange happened, the weapon of the Lich broke apart in a single exchange.
The Sealed Artifact Excalibur wasn't something that could be defeated by ordinary weapons, especially when the Excalibur had Holy and Light properties. When the Lich realized that it was losing and saw the Excalibur, it chose the most logical conclusion it could.
Escape.
In a split second, a wave of some sort of black energy burst out from the ground, separating Valkorion from the Lich, while he also controlled all Undead at the same time to attack Valkorion and started escaping from the room.
But that wasn't any kind of problem for the Valkorion, who ran directly toward the black energy released by the Lich, and with his sword, he cut through the energy like nothing, creating a pathway for him to pursue the Lich.
Using all the energy he could, he jumped through the air, and with his sword, he stabbed through the back of the Lich as the Undead Creature shrieked in agony when the Holiness penetrated through its entire body.
The corrosive nature of the Holiness towards anything even remotely related to the Undeath Scourge was too much because even though Valkorion stabbed a random body of the Lich, the Holiness of the Excalibur already spread through the entire body of the Lich and brought it down low.
In a few seconds, the only thing that remained out of the Lich's body was the purple-black Extraordinary Core that Valkorion stored within his Dimensional Bag. It was rather good loot for just a start, and he could already see that this would be a very fruitful journey.
Extraordinary Core of Sequence 7 Undead was rather nice and would fetch a nice amount of the Gold Dragon Coins. As he dealt with the Lich, Gotrik and Mellisandre dealt with the remaining Undead one by one, as they were swiftly being killed by two of them in an organized manner.
It didn't take longer than a few moments for all of the Undead at the place to be annihilated one by one, as they cleared out the entire ceremonial room which was the entrance point to the Izalith and heart of the former Chaosflame Covenant.
"This could go better, but it's not the worst possible outcome."
Mellisandre commented as she finished burning down the last of the Undead. It was the most common ritual when it came to the Undead, after disposing of their bodies, to burn them down, so they could never rise.
The Necromantic Energy within their bodies was still lingering, and if an experienced Lich or Necromancer came by, they could still be raised by a very powerful Necromancer. Thus, the doctrine of the Red Temple ordered them to burn anything that was even touched by the Undeath Scourge.
"Shall we be proceeding further right now? If the Cult of the Dammed has a large presence in this Orange Shore and is determined to occupy the Firelink Shrine, this would require more planning?"
Valkorion asked for Mellisandre's opinion on the matter because she was the most knowledgeable about the entire situation with the Cult of the Dammed. Even the Slayer Gotrik Gurnisson was more knowledgeable about it than Valkorion, who only found out about its existence today.
As the most unfortunate matter of fact.
"No, we need to move forward. There is no time for planning; we will go and kill anything that moves as simple as that."
Hearing her to say that, the dwarven Slayer grinned as he swung his waraxes forward in happy motion, because it was time to slay a enemies. When the Cult of the Dammed was already here, there was no real point in wasting any time, and they would need to move as fast as possible.
If they took control of all of the Undead within the Orange Shore, it would be an end game for them. With the sheer number of the Undead within the Orange Shore, Valkrion, too, knew that it would be an event of catastrophic proportions for everyone.
Then it would be up for the Valyrian Freehold and other powerful Beyonder Organizations to move personally to destroy the Undead and stop the Cult of the Dammed. Soon enough, they came to the conclusion that they needed to move forward deeper into the underground regions of the Firelink Shrine.
"And care to tell, where exactly within this godforsaken hellhole are we going?"
Till now, the red priestess was rather vague about the end destination where exactly they were going to, because the Undead Asylum Catacombs were huge, covering almost entirely of the Orange Shore, which was an entire region in a continent as huge as Essos.
So it was pretty big.
"The Izalith City of the Chaosflame Convent is huge because the Firelink Shrine spans the entire underground area of the Orange Shore. We are heading towards one of the vaults that is located several kilometers from this ceremonial room, a bit deeper under the ground. Within the Vauult, there should be remains of powerful Extraordinary Creature that is required by my Lord. It is highly possible that the Cult of the Dammed is also after the Extraordinary Ingredients that were left here by the Pyromancers of Izalith; many of them belong to the High Sequence Beyonders so that they could withstand the passage of time."
Only, when they arrived here, Mellisandre hinted that this place was far more dangerous than she had initially told him.
