Chapter 84 - End of His Fight (Patreon)
Content
From the moment when they came to the Undead Asylum Catacombs, the luck of the Cult of the Dammed started running out. The first thing that the leadership of the Cult didn't really anticipate was the higher number of the powerful Undead that were dwelling in the upper parts of the Izalith.
That was a rather serious misconception that actually cost the Cult a lot of manpower.
A lot of them were killed within the first days of their expedition into the former territory of the Chaosflame Covenant, and in the area where they were right now, the expeditionary forces of the Cult of the Dammed even encountered a few of the Mid Sequence Extraordinary Undeads which was something surprising as they were not supposed to be here.
This was something that they were not counting on, and a lot of their cultists were killed in the assault on the Mid Sequence Extraordinary Undead that was guarding the entrance to the vault of the Extraordinary Ingredients that the Cult of the Dammed wanted to obtain.
Fortunately enough, being the direct disciple of the High Deathpriest Isodorus had its perks, and Amulath managed to destroy the Mid Sequence Extraordinary Undead guardian with the Sealed Artifact that he was given by his master.
The bad news was that the Sealed Artifact that he had used was only one-time use, so after using it once, it broke apart and became useless junk unless they found an Artifact Restorer, but that was impossible.
Even the Cult of the Dammed didn't have any Artifact Restorer, and no one would work with the Cult of the Dammed as they were not particularly popular. One would have already thought that after the destruction of the Mid Sequence Extraordinary Undead, their problems would end, but...
The situation became probably equally problematic.
A number of the Undead that were left here was staggering, and the Cult of the Dammed needed to clear the upper parts of the pyramid together with a few sections of the middle areas of the pyramid for their own safety and to secure the lines.
They needed to transport the riches and wealth left here by the Chaosflame Covenant back to the Cult of the Dammed. While their primary objective was to obtain the content of the vault storing the Extraordinary Ingredients, they also had another, more mundane-orientated secondary objective.
Gold.
Gems.
Wealth.
Everything that could be sold for a good amount of coin was to be taken and transported back to the Cult. Financing the operations of the Cult of the Dammed was always rather a troublesome task.
The Cult of the Dammed was a Secret Organization that everyone wanted to get rid of.
Starting from the Orthodox Churches and factions through the neutral Secret Organizations and even a very good number of the Evil Secret Organizations or cults worshipping Evil Gods and other abominations.
They were not really that liked, which was more than clean, not to mention that a lot of factions were actually putting tremendous effort into eradicating their forces. The Red Temple, House of Black and White, Slayer Cult, and a few noble families of the Golden Empire of Yi Ti, High Elves, and Valyrians were the most notable ones that were investing a lot of resources to fight the Cult of the Dammed.
At Westeros, the Church of the Seven Gods and Parthenon were also hunting down the cultists of the Cult of the Dammed with extreme prejudice. The opportunity to excavate the gold and valuables left by the Chaosflame Covenant was priceless for the Cult of the Dammed.
Even though they didn't fulfill their primary objective, they still managed to secure a staggering amount of wealth from the excavation works by stripping large parts of the pyramid clean of everything that could sold on the market.
This was rather a good achievement for an expedition of their size, and even though the wealth that they had obtained from the Undead Asylum Catacombs wouldn't be enough to finance the needs of the High Seqeunce Beyonders, it was still better than nothing.
But right now, everything was falling apart due to the intervention of that dammed Red Temople, which even brought with itself one member of the Slayer Cult and another unknown Beyonder that was in no way less dangerous than the other two.
This was a nightmare-like situation because the hostile Beoynders were cutting through their forces like nothing, and the silver-haired Beyodner with molten-golden eyes had already managed to destroy two Seqeucne 6 Extraordinary Skeleton Knights that were under Alumeth's control.
Much to his dismay.
For Alumeth, it was clear that the situation wasn't looking good, and escape was probably impossible, considering the fact that the dammed Red Priests managed to block the exit from the room by creating a huge wall of the burning holy flames of her God.
As someone who was related to Death, it was impossible for him even to approach that wall of fire.
Alumeth was rather smart and knew that this situation seemed to reach a dead end, so the best thing that he could do was to take at least that one bastard that was cutting his way to death with him.
Even though he already lost the Sealed Artifact that his master gave him, he still had one prepared that was more suitable for a situation like this.
As any skilled Necromancer, he had already placed a part of his Soul in the phylactery in one of the branches of the Cult of the Dammed, so one of the High Sequence Beyonders of the Cult of the Dammed could revive him in some form.
Even though he was just a Low Seqeucne Beyodner, he managed to achieve this feat with the help of his master, so technically speaking, death would be just an experience for him.
But Valkorion could clearly see through his intention rather fast and easily, because Valkorion was warned beforehand by Mellisandre that the Necromancer he would be fighting may have some trump cards in his sleeve.
The red priestess even went as far as to speculate that it was possible that he may use some sort of Sealed Artifact or weapon to self-destruct because, as a disciple of the High Deathpriest of the Cult of the Dammed, it was possible that he had already managed to create a phylactery.
Soemthinng that was possible only for the Beyodners of the pathways related to death and dead, that wanted to transfer to the Lichdom when they were running out of the lifespan.
This was rather a common problem for the Beyonders because not many Beyonder Pathways were prolonging the Lifespan of the Beyonder. Most Beyonder Pathways provided minor bonuses to the lifespan only when they reached the Mid Sequences, and even then, it was mostly just a few decades and better health.
Only from the High Sequences, would one live, for much, much longer. For example, the Sequence 2 Saints could live up to five hundred years, and the Sequence 1 Angels were essentially ageless.
Lichdom thus repressed a huge opportunity for the Beyonders of the Death Pathway and its adjacent Pathway to extend their lifespan to almost indefinitely and live as an immortal being, not touched by time.
So even if Alumeth committed suicide here, he would most probably be resurrected as Lich in the Cult of the Dammed.
